Hello dear blog readers (if there any of you left?). I know I have been very MIA on my blog this year - the Beauty News channel is booming and takes up a lot of time and energy so I feel like maintaining blogging is spreading me thinner and thinner, but I am sure I will get used to it and finally have everything balanced out soon enough. Bare with me, I will make an effort to keep my blog active but I am taking having a bit of a break and having a rethink about what direction I want to take with my blog. I am thinking more lifestyle could be fun as I have had it up to here *gestures to my eyebrows* with reviewing makeup on my channel and then regurgitating the same information in a blog post. Anyway, watch this space to see what I decide to do... in the mean time lets regurgitate what I have already said in a YouTube video.

Ok so I was super happy to see the tail end of February... nothing personal Feb, I just had a really boring makeup month and s-t-ruggled coming up with content for my channel (and evidently my blog). I think Feb was the first month in years where I didn't buy any new makeup or beauty product! It wasn't an intentional thing, I just wasn't inspired by any of the new releases AND I am in the process of spending a lot of money on a tattoo and holiday... so there's that.

So the products I have been loving are a bit lack lustre, but lets give them some light anyway. Firstly, I have been loving the Daiso Tube Squeezer! This handy contraption helps squeeze out your toothpaste (or any tube product) but that's not why I like it... I like it because it has a little suction cup and a little hook that allows you to hang up your product in your shower or on your mirror and then easy remove it and hang it up again... genius!

Then the two products that have come in handy for post tattoo care are the Bioderma Atoderm PP Ultra Rich Foaming Gel and Bepanthen Antiseptic Cream. When looking after a fresh tattoo you need to clean it well with gentle product and the Bioderma one is great as it's free from fragrances and soap and works a treat on raw sensitive skin. Bepanthen has been fab at keeping my tattoo moisturised, it is sticky as hell but it last for around 12 hours on the skin and the antiseptic properties help at preventing any infection. Woo.

Some warm weather favourites are the Cancer Council Hand Cream SPF 30 and the Braun Silk Epil 9. The hand cream is a really fresh scented hand cream that has SPF 30 but doesn't feel greasy on the skin - perfect for the warmer months, or just to prevent any signs of aging. I can also thank the Braun Epilator for saving me from having to shave my legs every other day... I am currently on week 2 without needing to shave. Epilators aren't the most comfortable things in the world (after all, they pluck out your hairs one by one) BUT they work super well and they are less messy than waxing and you don't need to grow out your hairs to use it (unlike waxing). Check out my Cancer Council review here.

Some other random favourites are:
The Lush The Kiss Lip Scrub - this was a limited edition Valentines Day lip scrub and even though it worked great at exfolating the lips, lets face it, I love it because it tastes so nice! Check out my Lush Valentines Day post here
The Zoeva Cocoa Blend Palette has been the palette I have been reaching for when I want to add a pop of colour to my boring project pan makeup. I forgot how nice the Zovea eyeshadow quality is and the cranberry shade has been a great addition to my boring brown looks.
The Rimmel Magnifeyes in 002 Kissed By A Rose Golden and 003 Queens Of The Bronze Age are two cream shadow sticks that I have been liking for quite some time now but they don't quite make it into the favourites pile each month. These are surprisingly great if you want just a quick wash of colour on your lids and they last really well. They are also great as an eyeshadow base.
Barry M Gelly Hi Shine Nail Paint in Green Berry is not a surprise, this was my favourite nail polish of 2016 and here it is again in a favourites. It is the perfect bright green that isn't too dark, isn't too pastel and is the best pop of colour for the warmer months. It would also look great with a tan... not that I have one :P
If you want to see me talk about these products in case you can't be bothered reading - check out my video below!

Ok! So thats my regurgitating for another month. I am looking forward to creating different from my channel very soon!

Much love x Kat

Note: some of these products were given to me as a press sample. My review is 100% my own opinion. No one gives a damn that I am writing this post, these are genuinely my favourites of Feb!

Hey crew, if you have been reading my blog or watching my channel for the past year or so you would know that some of my all time favourite lipsticks that were released in 2016 were the Rimmel The Only 1 Lipsticks (see review here). Now Rimmel are back with a matte version *GASP* and I was lucky enough to be sent the whole range to review. The Rimmel Only 1 Matte Lipsticks claim to be comfortable, long lasting and have bold colour with a matte finish. These retail for $15.95 each and you can buy them from Priceline.

Ok let's start with the basics. There are nine shades in the range and the shades go from nudes to pinks, to reds, a purple and a chocolate brown. At first I thought this range was pretty comprehensive but after wearing them all I am missing some warmer shades - peach, orange, orange toned red. Being a person who suits oranges and orange toned reds I don't have many shades that I am really drawn to in this collection.

The packaging is very similar the original packaging (see below), they both have the exact same shape and show a band of plastic that represents the shade inside, but instead of being glossy and black it has a red and more matte finish. To be honest I don't love the new packaging, the plastic it feels quite lightweight, cheap and stiff to close.

You can see from the photos above (who am I kidding, they are screenshots from my video review because I forgot to take swatch photos), you can see that the shades are quite opaque, they look nice and bold on the lips... but they aren't super matte. Much like the original The Only 1 lipsticks, these do apply quite thin and almost glossy and then settle to a more set formula. When they set on the lips they look a lot more matte.

Check my video out below if you want to see how each shade applies

That setting formula is what I loved about the original lipsticks but it's the downfall of these. The original glossy lipsticks needed to set and become a little sticky to last a long time on the lips, but when you take that same formula and add a more powdery matte finish then these can settle to be a bit chunky... sticky + powdery = gloopy. That's what I dislike about these lipsticks the most and what really let me down. They are comfortable, easy to apply, have a strong sweet scent (like the original ones - some love it, some hate it), are quite affordable, BUT they start looking chunky after a couple of hours of wear. Matte lipstick formulas are naturally longer lasting lipsticks and didn't benefit at all from being mixed with this The Only 1 setting formula.

So overall I wasn't in love with these and I think my love for the original formula really made me have high hopes... and a greater disappointment. I do think the best performing shades are the reds because they tend to almost stain the lips and wear off looking a lot more even than some of the other shades. I also love the addition of the brown nude and the chocolate brown as they are generally quite flattering as nudes on various skintones. So would I recommend these? Probably not, they are definitely wearable but they aren't anything that I would reach for - I would much prefer to recommend the original The Only 1 Lipsticks, and that's a big claim coming from a matte lip lover.

Happy Valentines Day everyone! Whether you celebrate Valentines Day or not, it is always a great excuse to treat yourself and pamper yourself... and Lush have a super fun Valentines Day collection this year to help you do both!

This years Lush Valentines Day collection includes four bath bombs (Cupid Bath Bomb, Lover Lamp Bath Bomb, Rose Bombshell Bath Bomb, Over and Over Bath Bomb), three bubble bars (Lovestruck Bubble Bar and the super cute Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar and Ladybird Bubble Bar pictured above), one bath melt (Two Hearts Bathing As One), a Prince Charming Shower Cream (because we can all use a Prince Charming on Valentines Day!), the Love You, Love You Lots Soap (pictured), The Love Spell Massage Bar, The Kiss Lip Gloss (pictured) and The Kiss Scrub (also pictured). There are also five gift packs ranging in price from $14.95 to $59.95.

Unicorn Horn Bubble Bar is definitely one of the most fun looking items from the range. It is a bubble bar that has a light shimmery pink, blue and yellow spiral and creates the shape of a unicorn horn. The scent is a soft lavender and neroli and when you break off some of the bar and crumble it into the bath it creates a beautiful soft relaxing experience. For a slightly brighter bath experience you can use the Ladybird Bubble Bar which is in the shape of a cute ladybird (or ladybug) and contains sweet geranium oil and peppermint oil for a more invigorating bath.

Lush also have you covered in the lips department *wink wink* and they have brought out The Kiss Lip Scrub which contains salt and sugar to exfoliate your lips, cocoa butter to soften the lips and contains sweet almond and mandarin oils for a delicious sweet scent and taste. This scrub also has edible hearts which makes it very fitting for the Valentines Day theme. Out of all of these products this is definitely the one I keep reaching for because it is so effective and tasty... honestly, I just want to keep eating it! There is also a The Kiss Lip Gloss which, in my opinion, is a little strange. The website makes this look bright pink but it is actually more of a light opalescent pink which isn't the most flattering on the lips. I think mine may have separated when I left it in the hot car because it seems to have balls of butter that works amazingly at exfoliating the lips and then melts into a really comfortable lip butter... I don't know if that is supposed to be the case, but I love it anyway!

Lastly I have been testing out the Love You, Love You Lots Soap which contains rose oil, rose petals and rose syrup. If you like a sweeter modern rose scent (almost like Rose Jam Shower Gel or Ro's Argan Body Conditioner - I LOVE both of these products) then this is the soap for you. It is very soft but quite sweet rose fragrance and is a gorgeous addition to the Valentines Day range.

If you are looking for a last minute Valentines Day present or you just want to treat yourself, then check out the whole collection in store or online at Lush.com.au.

It is time for another favourites! I didn't think I loved many products this month but when I went back through the products that I have been reaching for often, I was actually quite surprised by how many great products I have been using.

If you want to see me talk more in depth about each product, I did film a January favourites and fails video which you can watch below. I will also link more in depth reviews if I have done them.

Lets start with skincare. I usually don't love face masks and always forget to use them, but there were two that I have tried this month that I keep going back to. The first is the L'Oreal Pure Clay Mask Detoxifying and Brightening Charcoal Mask which is part of their new mask range that includes this charcoal mask, a green clay and a red clay - which are all designed to combat different skin concerns. These are also designed for multimasking (where you apply different masks to different parts of your face that have different skin concerns) and luckily they each retail for under $20 (and you can often find them on sale) so multimasking has become more affordable. I have all three masks and by far my favourite the black one that is designed to detoxify the skin and is suited for normal skin types. What I love about this mask is that it acts in a similar way to the Glam Glow Supermud Mask where it draws out the oils and gunk from your skin (see photo below), but this one is a fraction of the price!

The next mask that I have been loving is the Kiehl's Turmeric and Cranberry Seed Energizing Radiance Masque which gives a nice tingle to the skin (which I love, and definitely does energise the skin) and also contains cranberry seeds which help exfoliate the skin when you wash it off! I love a product that works well and has a multi use purpose!

Onto makeup! This month I have discovered a few base products that have worked their way into my daily routine. The first product is the NYX HD Finishing Powder in Translucent which is a white translucent power (best for fair to medium skin otherwise it will start looking ashy) which sets my makeup really nicely and helps it stay matte for longer, which is a blessing for someone who has oily skin and struggles with makeup breakdown in summer. The next is the Revlon Colorstay Stay Natural Foundation (my shade is 03 Nude) this is a great foundation for people who want their makeup to last but don't want a high coverage/heavy matte finish that comes with many long wear foundations. This foundation is medium coverage, feels quite natural, but also sets so it lasts well.

Onto highlighters! This has been the month of a few new additions to my highlighter collection. I bought three of the new MAC Extra Dimension Skinfinishes in Soft Frost, Beaming Blush and Show Gold, and I love them all for very different reasons (check out my review linked below for more detail and swatches). Then I stumbled across my first ever Colourpop highlighter while filming The Makeup Breakup Colourpop edition. The one that I have is the Colourpop Super Shock Cheek in Might Be and I am obsessed! I originally thought that being a cream product these would be hard to use with a brush, but they are so pigmented that they apply super easily. This shade is really pretty for summer too because it has a tan base with a glowy champagne gold shimmer and it looks very intense but almost wet looking on the skin which is very beautiful.
32278267271_75a87fb41e_o

The lipsticks that have impressed me the much this month are by Elizabeth Arden and MAC. My most reached for nude is the Elizabeth Arden Beautiful Color Bold Liquid Lipstick in Daring Beige, which is a beautiful long wearing glossy liquid lipstick in a neutral (almost cool grey toned) nude that is quite unique but super flattering. Then the pop of colour that has impressed me the most is the MAC Viva Glam 2 Ariana Grande which is a matte lipstick that is the perfect mix between a bright pink and a purple. If you love a bright purple lip but find that they can almost be a bit intimidating in public then this is the perfect purple/pink lipstick for you! This is the best purple I have come across because it can look purple but can also look pink, so it creates a bright fun lip that is also quite wearable.

Onto a few random favourites. I tried my first Sigma brush set this month and I was pleasantly surprised! The quality is great and this Best of Sigma Set contains seven brushes that I can happily use in any makeup look. My pet peeve is brush sets that contain a few random brushes that you will never reach for. The Flat Kabuki brush is my favourite of the set because it blends foundation flawlessly and doesn't streak. I have been reaching for this over a sponge which is crazy and something I haven't done for years. I will definitely be buying more Sigma brushes soon!

Then I also bought the Kat Von D Metal Matte palette on whim while it was on sale for $48 (down from $95). Admittedly I don't reach for all the shades as I find black and white too harsh and cooler shades unflattering on me personally, but it has encouraged me to work in more purples and peaches into my everyday makeup look and I have been loving it! I also find the formula to be really soft, pigmented and easy to work with.

Lastly my favourite nail polish of the month is the Maybelline Color Show Blushes Nudes Dusky Rose nail polish which is a very pretty nude pink mauve shade that is a little more unique than a basic nude or basic pink and it looks very pretty and elegant on the nails. I was also pleasantly surprised with the wear time and I can easy get a few full days without chipping (which is very rare for me).

Those are all the products I have been loving in January.

I would love to know what products you have been loving last month!

Hey crew! Today I am talking about the Best Of Sigma Brush Set by Sigma. You might be shocked when I say what I am about to say... this is officially my first ever Sigma brush set ever! Yep, that's right, I never gave into the Sigma hype when Sigma brushes were the the coolest brush sets to buy, and to be perfectly honest I am a little disappointed that I didn't get into Sigma sooner! The reason why this post is on the top of my blog posts to write list is because I am definitely going to feature these in my January favourites video/post and I wanted to let you guys know more about them before I do!

This pack retails for AU$125.95 from RY.com.au (with free shipping on orders over $99) and you get seven brushes in the set (average $18 per brush). I decided to pick up this pack because it not only contains the "best" of Sigma, but all of the brushes look very practical and there isn't one brush that would just sit in a drawer gathering dust. My pet peeve with buying brush sets is that there are always brushes you wont use, so this brush set is a breath of fresh air and I will definitely be picking up a second set in the future! This set also contains a good selection of face brushes and eye brushes so if you are new to the Sigma line then this is a good starter pack.

This kit contains (information taken from RY.com.au):
80 – Flat Kabuki
The F80 Flat Kabuki features a flat top brush head with very soft and dense fibers. Made with exclusive Sigmax fibers, this brush provides a flawless, high definition finish with liquid or cream foundation without any absorption of product.
P88 – Precision Flat Angled
The P88 Flat Angled Precision features a small, dense and flat angled brush head. Made with exclusive Sigmax fibers, this brush was designed to mimic your fingertips and is great for applying concealer perfectly under the eyes and around the nose without any absorption of product.
F64 – Soft Blend Concealer
The F64 Soft Blend Concealer Brush features a large, soft brush head. This brush was designed to be used with cream or liquid products to conceal large areas of the face such as the cheeks and forehead.
E57 – Firm Shader
The E57 Firm Shader Brush features soft, yet firm fibers with a short, flat brush head. Can be used with powder or cream products to apply controlled, intense pigmentation to the lids.
E38 – Diffused Crease
The E38 Diffused Crease Brush features a round-domed, soft brush head. Best used with powder products to apply color to the crease and soften eye color on the lids providing firm control.
E34 – Domed Utility
The E34 Domed Utility Brush features a dense, domed brush head great for intense shading in the crease or outer corner of the eye for high color payoff.
E21 – Smudge
The E21 Smudge Brush features a very small, round and dense brush head. Best used with powder or cream products to smudge out pencil eye liner on the lower lash line or add eye shadow to the lash line for a controlled smoky, softening effect.

I am very impressed with the quality of these brushes, the fibers are very soft and don't shed and the handles feel very sturdy and well constructed. My favourite brushes in the set are the Flat Kabuki brush, the Soft Blend Concealer brush and the Diffused Crease brush. Normally I prefer to apply my foundation with a sponge because brushes tend to leave streaks and are too much work... however this is definitely not the case for the Flat Kabuki brush which is very soft and very dense and gives a really smooth and perfected finish (I have been reaching for it over a sponge, which never happens!). I also love the Soft Blend Concealer brush, but instead of using it for concealer (I personally think its too large and soft to apply concealer), I love using it to carve out a precise contour, to apply highlighter or to apply setting powder. It is a very handy versatile brush and I don't have anything else like it in my collection. Lastly I love the Diffuses Crease brush because it is great for blending out an eye look or deepening a crease and it can be difficult finding affordable brushes that have the same great shape. The other brushes in the set work fantastically too!

If you have been like me and have hesitated buying Sigma brushes, definitely check them out because they make makeup application so much more simple. You can buy them in various packs or individually from RY.com.au - but I recommend buying them in a pack because they are better value.

Do you love Sigma brushes? What is your favourite one?

Living in Australia we are told time and time again about the importance of wearing a good SPF on a daily basis... but do we actually practice it? Since we are in the middle of summer it is a great time to start working a good SPF into your routine, and luckily Cancer Council have released a range of cosmetics with sun protection.

Cancer Council have had sold sunscreens and hats and sunglasses as long as I can remember (yep, I was that little kit at the beach with the dorky hat and sunglasses covered in sunscreen), but they have now released some every day friendly products. One thing that I like about the Cancer Council name is that you know you are getting a really good quality sunscreen with broad spectrum protection. I have seen a lot of articles about how some brands of sunscreens don't protect as well as others, but products from Cancer Council have always been well respected as leaders in the sun protection.

The range now includes base products like the SPF 30 Foundation which comes in three shades, a SPF 30 BB Creme that comes in two shades and a SPF 30 Face Moisturiser that comes in untinted and three tinted shades. I have tried the foundation in Beige, which is a great shade match for me, it is a very creamy feeling foundation that provides a light coverage to even out the skin tone. It would be a great product to throw on quickly if you were having a light makeup day or wanted to look a little more put together when running errands or exercising. The foundation is very moisturising so if you have oily skin you will definitely need to set this with a powder. I have also tried the face moisturiser in Light Beige which is a nice high protection moisturiser that doesn't provide much coverage but definitely takes away any white cast that a sunscreen or a moisturiser might give. I would even recommend this to men or women who want an all in one product that doesn't leave a white cast and evens out the skin tone slightly. Do note that these products don't have added fragrances so they do have a strong sunscreen scent, which I quite like because it reminds me of being a kid.

The range also includes some other convenient ways to include SPF30 into your daily routine like in an SPF30 Body Lotion, SPF 30 Hand Cream (I have been looking for a great hand cream that contains SPF for a while now), an SPF 30 Lip Gloss and also eight shades of SPF 30 Lipstick! I never even thought about needing SPF in a lipstick, but it actually makes a lot of sense! The shade that I have is Aztec Berry which is a shimmery sheer pink (see swatch below), which is a nice shade but not really something that I would reach for on a daily basis. I would love to see bold matte shades with SPF - that would be my jam!

There are also some great basics like the SPF 30 Face Day Wear Sunscreen, which is my personal favourite way to wear sunscreen on a daily basis as it is non greasy and sits nicely under foundation, and also Fragranced SPF 50 Sunscreen Body Sprays that allow you to reapply during the day without any hassle.

IMG_0636

Overall I think incorporating a high SPF broad spectrum sunscreen into normal cosmetics is a great way to get people using sunscreen more often. I have been wearing a face sunscreen on a daily basis for years now, but I do neglect to wear SPF on my lips, hands, and on my body so seeing these products was a bit of an eye opener to me.

My personal favourite products in the range are the hand cream and body lotion because whenever I have tried to use body products that contain a high SPF they tend to stay very greasy and sticky and stick to clothing or furniture and I end up having to wash it off. These products were really creamy but acted like a normal hand cream/body lotion and didn't leave a greasy residue. They also had a really nice fresh skincare scent to them. I highly recommend trying them out!

We're currently in the middle of a hot summer in Australia so I thought I would share my top 5 summer/fresh fragrances. I personally prefer a fresh fragrance all year round because heavier fragrances can often give me a headache, but I am definitely more inclined to want reach for them in the warmer weather as lighter fresher scents are more refreshing. These are the fragrances that I have have been reaching for the most recently (click the name for links to where you can buy them).

This is my favourite scent of 2016 and is probably my most used scent in general. It is a unisex scent that is very light, clean, and reminds me of a waterfall (no idea why). This is also is one of the few fresh fragrances that actually lasts all day!
Top notes: mandarine, violet leaves, wasabi
Heart notes: rose, orris, pebble
Base notes: incense, sandalwood, vetiver

This is more of a sweet feminine fresh scent that has soft floral and fruity notes. It is one of my favourite scents and it is a great way to work in florals to your perfume collection if you find them generally overpowering and a bit stale. The mixture of fruity and floral is perfect and it makes for a really refreshing feminine scent.
Top notes: grapefruit, apricot, blackcurrant buds absolute
Heart notes: jasmine, woodland lily, rose
Base notes: apple, woody elements

This is a pretty basic fresh scent that would suit most people. It's a little bit of citrus, a bit floral, but the most exciting thing about this is the packaging. It looks like a mini replica of Windex cleaning spray and it is amazing! If you are into collecting fragrance packaging then this is a must.
Top notes: citrus bergamia, mandarine, ylang-ylang
Heart notes: osmanthus, peony, raspberry
Base notes: cedar wood, patchouli, woody elements, ambroxan

#4 Lumira Paradisium
This is an amazing scent made by a smaller Australian brand. This is a very unique, grown up, modern fresh scent and I am obsessed with it. It is supposed to evoke a Mediterranean feel and I completely get it. The only reason this isn't equal first with CK2 is because I don't find that this scent lasts on me all day.
Notes: luscious green fit intertwined with fresh bergamot

#5 Marc Jacobs Daisy
This is a classic fresh floral fragrance. It smells like a spring day and is a bright floral with not much sweetness to it. A beautiful fresh warm weather scent if you are a lover of white floral scents.
Top notes: strawberry, violet leaves, pink grapefruit
Heart notes: gardenia, jasmine, violet
Base notes: musk, vanilla, woody elements

Yesterday I mentioned my top products of 2016 so naturally today I am going to round up some bad/disappointing products of 2016.

I do want to note that a lot of these products aren't actually bad but were disappointing because they either didn't meet their hype or just weren't as good as I had hoped. I also know that a lot of people will love these products, but for me they missed the mark. Check out my video below explaining why I didn't like each product.

PRODUCTS MENTIONED (and links):
Too Faced Chocolate Bon Bons Palette (blog post/video review)
Too Faced Sweet Peach Palette (blog post/video review)
Ciate x Chloe Morello Pretty, Fun and Fearless Palette (blog post/video review)
Makeup Geek Eyeshadows

Hey, long time no see! HAPPY NEW YEAR!

I have been taking a bit of a blogging break over Christmas and New Years. I would like to say it was to take a break and relax, but I originally intended for the time off work to be a great time to catch up on blogging... but then one of the videos on BEAUTY NEWS went viral. Surprisingly trawling through comments and keeping everything under control takes a lot of time and mental energy, so blogging just didn't happen. Also Hailey and I decided to run with the success and create a new series on the channel which took a lot of work. Sorry blog!

Aaaanyway, I thought I should start the year with my BEAST IN BEAUTY 2016 post. I haven't covered all beauty categories because a lot of products that I love are products that I have been using for years and years, and to prevent these posts from getting repetitive I have excluded them.

As I have included a lot of products, I thought it's best just to list the products and any reviews that I have done previously and also include my 2 part video at the end where you can see me explain why they products made the cut!
