Favourites May 2016

June 7, 2016

Another month, another favourites!

I expected May to be a big month for beauty favourites because May is my birthday month (and this year my 30th birthday) but I think I was quite dedicated to trying to finishing up my project pan (that is finishing in June) instead of trying out new and exciting products. There are a few gems that are worth mentioning though...

Firstly I need to mention the absolutely drop dead gorgeous palette that I was given as a birthday present from the ever so wonderful Talia from Glossy Confidential. This is the Natasha Denona Brown Green 28 Eyeshadow Palette and it is phenomenal. It isn't your typical palette that has matte cream shades, shimmery beige and matte crease colours - this is more of a makeup artist/eyeshadow enthusiasts palette and it contains super pigmented shimmery, sparkly, duochrome shades with a couple of mattes and satins thrown into the mix. I love this palette and it has definitely made me step out of my comfort zone when it comes to shadows and I have been loving adding a pop of green to my eyes all this month. I did a full blog post review here and a video review with live swatches here

The next makeup favourite is the Dose Of Colours Matte Lipstick in Truffle which has been my go to nude filming lipstick. I love the way that this gives me a bold, more perfected "my lips but better" effect. It is a mid toned nude with browny pink tones to it and I love it, it is my perfect nude shade. If I have been wearing a nude lip in a video this month then it has been this. I don't tend to wear this to work or day to day because I do find that it makes my lips feel quite chapped after a few hours, but it does look great!

The last makeup favourite is the L'Oreal False Lash Superstar Mascara. I can't remember the last time I used a L'Oreal mascara but I can tell you that I am extremely impressed by this one. This is a 2 step mascara where you first apply a white later as a volumising primer and then you apply a coat of the black mascara. I find this gives a great lengthening and volumised look, but my favourite thing about it is that the wand really grips your lashes so it coats the whole lash really thoroughly and it brushes out any clumps. I love it!

For nail products I have been LOVING the OPI Glitter Off Base Coat. This is a base coat that allows your to peel off your nail polish when wanting to remove it. If you have used glitter nail polish in the past you might know how hard it is to remove with nail polish remover... well with this base coat I never have to worry about that ever again and it has renewed my love for glitter nail polish because I usually avoid wearing it because it's so annoying to remove! Check out my video comparison of this vs a DIY glitter base coat.

The skincare I have been impressed with this month is the Elizabeth Arden Super Start Skin Renewal Booster and the Elizabeth Arden Ceramide Capsules Daily Youth Restoring Serum. The Super Start Skin Renewal  Booster is a light, amazing smelling pre-serum that is designed to boost your skincare and make it more effective. I love this because its really light and comfortable to wear and it just feels beautiful to use. The Ceramide Capsules are little one use capsules that contain a thick luxurious oil/serum and it has been amazing as a night serum. My skin has been getting drier since it is the start of winter and it takes a while for my skin to adapt to a new season, but these have really helped to moisturise and keep my skin plump.

I dyed my hair back at the end of April and even though it's now a light brown (not blonde - which is what purple shampoos and conditioners are designed for), I have been looking for products that can help reduce some of the brassy look. I have been using the Theorie Purple Sage Brightening Shampoo and Conditioner and I am obsessed! Not only does it help neutralise some of the yellow tones, but it makes my hair so soft and amazing and whenever I use it I make people feel my hair! If a shampoo and conditioner does that, then it is amazing! You can buy these at I-glamour.com.

What was your favourite beauty product of May?

Note: some of these products were sent to me as a press sample. My review is 100% my own opinion
