Rimmel The Only 1 Lipsticks

I am actually really excited to review the new lipstick offering from Rimmel. These are the Rimmel The Only 1 Lipsticks and they have just been released in Australia. There are 12 shades available in Australia and the US, and 15 shades in the UK. You can buy these in Priceline in Australia and they retail for $15.99 each.

These are called "the only one" lipstick because they claim to provide COLOUR, COMFORT, MOISTURE and WEAR... we'll see if they live up to the claims!

I was sent these six shades for review and, even though these aren't necessarily the shades I would have picked for myself, I can tell you that I will be picking up some more very soon!

The packaging is a black shiny plastic tube that slightly flares out and has a slanted lid. The packaging also has a coloured band that shows the shade of the lipstick pretty accurately. I love this detail because it makes it so much easier finding the right shade if you have a few of these lipsticks. The sticker on the bottom shows the shade name and is also coloured similarly to the lipstick shade. The combination of the shiny black plastic, the silver metal tube and the coloured band looks quite classic and sleek.

The bullet itself is a flat slanted shape and it isn't my favourite. I find that it isn't as precise when applying the lipstick and you can accidentally overdraw the lipstick.

The lipstick has a strong sweet fragrance that smells to me like sour watermelon lollies (candy/sweets). I personally quite like the scent but I can see the scent polarising people. The scent only lingers for a minute or two and then disappears.

The formula of this lipstick is quite unique. It applies very wet and slippery and gives the impression that it may transfer and smear, but after a couple of minutes the lipstick sets and settles to more of a shiny finish with a slight tacky feel. This lipstick has great pigmentation (the darker/brighter shades more so than the lighter shades) and it last for hours! I was so surprised at how well this lasted since creamy lipsticks generally wear off really quickly on me (hence my love affair with mattes). These also don't dry out your lips so you can comfortably wear them all day without any issue. I found that I could apply one of these lipsticks in the morning, I would need to reapply after lunch and then that will last until dinner - PERFECT!

One last thing to note is that the darker/brighter shades do tend to stain slightly... but hey, that adds to the longevity of the colour.

The shades I got were predominantly pinks (which aren't really my thing) but you can see from the swatches above that the colours are quite bold and they apply pretty evenly.

110 Pink A Punch is a vibrant (almost neon) yellow toned pink with a cream finish. This shade is not for the faint hearted but it's a very fun shade and it applies and lasts really well.
120 You're All Mine is a typical pink. It's a mid toned pink with a cream finish and... well... it would suit people who like basic pink lipsticks.
200 It's A Keeper is a pinky mauve nude that is less opaque than some of the other shades and also has some fine silver shimmer in it which gives it a more metallic/frosty look on lips which I don't love.
300 Listen Up is a vibrant raspberry deep pink.
610 Cheeky Coral is probably my favourite of the three (can you tell I am more of an orange/red lipstick lover?). This is a neon coral red that has a cream finish. This has a very similar bold and pigmented application as 110 Pink A Punch.
700 Naughty Nude is the most "true" nude of the six that I have. This still looks quite rosy on the lips and will suit most people. I think this has a slight shimmer to it as well, but it's no where near as noticeable as 200 It's A Keeper. This probably has the worst pigmentation, but it is buildable.

Overall I am actually very impressed with this new lipstick line by Rimmel. Does it live up to the claims of COLOUR, COMFORT, MOISTURE and WEAR? Yes, yes it actually does! Well done Rimmel!

I will definitely be picking up a few reds and berries when I am next at Priceline!

  4. I have seen these so many times but keep hesitating to pick one just because nobody seems to be talking about them - I can't tell if they are a hidden gem or politely not given negative reviews. I love your swatches, though! I may just have to take the plunge next time I am out. :)
