Cheese & wine ideas
January 1, 2016
Happy New Year! If you're anything like me, your festive season has been filled with delicious food and wine. I decided to share a cheese board that I prepared yesterday based on a few tips that I picked up from a cheese and wine event that I attended in early December.
Dave, the cheese barista from Warrnambool Cheese & Butter, talked to a few bloggers about his tips on creating the perfect cheese board, great cheese and wine pairings, and also introduced us to the limited edition Cracker Barrel Vintage 44 Cheddar that has been released for the holiday season. The Cracker Barrel Vintage 44 Cheddar has been aged for a minimum of 44 months so if you love strong vintage cheese then you will love this! It is available until sold out at Woolworths for $6.99.
On my cheese board I included the Cracker Barrel Vintage 44 Cheddar topped with honey and cashews (Dave suggested honey, walnuts and dates), Parmesan with Balsamic Glaze, Camembert cheese (Dave recommended to pair this with a chutney), a smoked cheese, and some fresh fruit to act as a palette cleanser.
Cheese/wine pairing suggestions:
Brie with a dessert wine
Gouda with a Sauvignon Blanc
Cracker Barrel Vintage Cheddar Extra Sharp (aged 20 months) with a Shiraz
Cracker Barrel Vintage 44 Cheddar (aged 44 months) with a Cabernet Sauvignon
Blue cheese with Sirromet Private Collection Sunwine
