Review & comparison: Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Nude - compared to MAC Velvet Teddy

November 19, 2015

I have had these photos on my computer for months and months (maybe even a year) and I am finally ready to review this product! This is the Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipstick in Melted Nude and you can buy it at Mecca Maxima for $30. I believe there are 18 shades in this range and this is probably the most brown toned nude of the bunch.

So you might be thinking "why did it take so long to review?" well when I first bought this I wore it in a video and it sort of bunched up on the inner rim on my lips and looked really weird (and of course I only noticed then while editing) so that put me off giving this product much of a chance. Recently I went on holidays and decided to bring this as my every day nude lipstick because, as I didn't love it, if it breaks or gets lost then I won't be too upset about it. While I was wearing this most days overseas my opinion of this changed and I started loving it!

Lets talk quickly about the packaging. This is a squeezy tube that contains 12 ml of product and it has a soft felt like applicator that you squeeze the product out through (see photo above if I am not making any sense). I love that the plastic is the same colour as the lipstick- so if you have a few of these then its easy to find the shade you are looking for (plus it just looks cool). If you have trypophobia then you will hate the dispenser initially, but don't worry - after the first application it becomes completely covered in the lipstick. After a few applications this does look a but gross and messy but the applicator does a good job at applying a thin even layer of product to the lips.

The product is a thin liquid lipstick that is quite pigmented, has a normal creamy finish but dries down to more of a matte finish after a while and it lasts a good 4+ hours on the lips. My shade is a nude that matches my lips quite well so I can't tell if it becomes patchy and wears off unevenly, but it definitely lasts on the lips well and even lasts through eating and drinking. The scent is a sweet berry scent.

Top - MAC Velvet Teddy
Bottom - Too Faced Melted Nude

I thought I should compare the shade to the ever so hyped (and personally loved) MAC Velvet Teddy. MAC is on the top and Too Faced Melted Nude is on the bottom. You can see that they are quite similar but Melted Nude is a lot more orange/peachy toned and it in thinner in consistency and therefore looks more like your natural lips rather than a creamy lipstick sitting on your lips. I love MAC Velvet Teddy and I wear it often, but I prefer Melted Nude for warmer weather because the slight peachy orange hint looks amazing with a tan or bronzed makeup and it is the perfect my lips but better shade for people who prefer mid toned nude shades with more of a brown/orange hint.

If you love mid toned peachy nude shades then get onto this shade! This will be a shade that I will wear constantly this summer paired with a gold highlighter. I put my initial bad impression down to applying it and then talking too much before letting it set completely, so definitely give it some time to set and it will last you hours of wear without any smearing, moving or causing any trouble!

Have you tired the Too Faced Melted Liquified Long Wear Lipsticks? What are your thoughts?

  1. Love Velvet Teddy and loveeee this colour by Too Faced! I've tried the melted lipstick, I love how it doesnt drag on the lips!!

  2. I have two of these lipsticks (too faced) and I have had the same issue with bunching up on the inner lips - yuck! How long would you suggest letting the product set for to avoid this?

  3. I do really want to try these but just haven't ever gotten around to it! I was going to pick up the mini set for holiday this year but not all the shades called out to me. I really like the look of this shade though!

  4. I think for my first long wear lipstick high end I would look into these. The shades' i'm looking into are the reds in this line. They seem it would be a great product specially for on the go. Thanks for getting to this review makes me want to look into this product more.

  5. I have to check out the Melted lipsticks, the formula sounds amazing!

  6. I got my hands on a deluxe mini of this from the Melted Kisses and Sweet Cheeks set and haven't used it all that much, but now I'm looking forward to trying it out more after reading your review. I don't have Velvet Teddy but I do have a Maybelline Color Drama lip crayon in Nude Perfection and Wet n Wild Bare It All, both of which are very similar and a couple of my favourite nude lipsticks!

  7. I've got the mini's from their Christmas set and I quite like the consistency and feel of them! The applicator does a great job getting the colour on the lips. They wear away nicely too!
