You may (or may not) have noticed that I have been a little quiet on my blog lately. I have just got back from a holiday in Vietnam and I wasn't prepared enough to have blog posts prewritten for when I was away. Anywho if anyone wants to see a post about my holiday to Vietnam just let me know! ...for now let's talk about MAC.
Just before I went overseas I ordered a couple of products from the MAC Cosmetics Magic Of The Night collection that is the 2015 MAC Christmas collection. This collection consists of five extra dimension eye shadows, four lipsticks, two extra dimension skin finishes, two eyeliners, two lip liners and some palettes and kits. Check out the MAC website for all the details.
I was very reserved with my purchasing and only ordered the limited edition lipstick shade in Evening Rendezvous and the limited edition extra dimension skin finish shade in Oh, Darling. Since these products come in limited edition packaging, they are a little more pricey than the normal range and the lipstick retails for AU$40 (3g) and the extra dimension skin finish retails for $51(9g). Also if you were wondering, MAC have limited edition shades (the colour/formula is limited edition) and they also have products in limited edition packaging (anything other than the standard black MAC packaging). I generally like to pick products in these types of collections that are limited edition shades in limited edition packaging.
Now lets talk about the packaging... which is everything! Online these looked ok, but in person the packaging is to die for! The lipstick comes in a metallic purple tube with a matching box and the extra dimension skin finish comes in te most epic metallic blue packaging with matching box. Both also have black details which you can see in the photo below. Also the stickers on the bottom of the packaging are also metallic blue/purple which I think is a really great touch. I am in love with this packaging! The other eye products in this range came with metallic teal packaging and the palettes and packs came in interesting 80s retro futuristic packaging which I really liked (I love the 80s), but I know other people thought was ugly. The extra dimension skin finish also has lines and the MAC logo etched into the product which matched the design of the palettes/sets.
Extra Dimension Skin Finish in Oh, Darling: This is by far the most popular product from the range, and I can completely understand why. This is a gold highlighter which is similar to other popular highlighters that have come out this year (Becca Champagne Pop and Laura Geller Gilded Honey). This applies beautifully! It's super pigmented and it gives a beautiful golden champagne sheen to the cheeks without looking too powdery or over the top. You could apply this lightly for a soft gold glow or build it up for a more intense metallic gold pop... either way this looks really flattering and doesn't emphasise pores or lines unlike other super metallic highlighters *cough* Becca *cough*.
Matte Lipstick in Evening Rendezvous: This is the only limited edition lipstick shades from this collection (the other three are permanent shades) and is described as a deep reddish purple. I am going to start by saying that MAC matte lipsticks are my all time favourite lipstick formula as they are pigmented, have a matte finish, feel creamy and they last hours and hours on the lips. This formula is no different. The shade is really beautiful as it's a deep berry that looks very purple but the burgundy/red hint makes this a lot more wearable than a blue toned purple shade like Heroine. If you are a lover of berry or purple lips, then this shade is a must have!
Overall I adore the look of this collection and I am particularly obsessed with the two products I bought because they are great quality and are fun yet wearable shades. If you love limited edition MAC collections then this is one you have to check out!
I also did a video review of these products where I apply them and swatch them next to similar coloured products.
