I love the start of the month! I always look forward to seeing peoples favourites posts and videos flood my computer... I honestly can't get enough of them. This is also the start of spring in Australia so I am so extremely excited for warmer weather, I have had enough of winter and I can't wait for warm sun and wearing shorts.
Aaaanyway... here are my favourite beauty products for August (and the end of winter *cheers*)... expect more peachy/bronzy/bright things for my next favourites.
Sukin Sensitive Cleansing Gel: I have been trialling a lot of skincare throughout August and my favourite cleanser is this gel cleanser that I bought during the Priceline skincare sales (thanks Kate for the recommendation). This is a light gel that foams nicely, cleanses well without drying the skin, and smells delicious. This doesn't have any added perfumes but it has a really nice soft natural sweet scent... it's really hard to describe but it's a scent that makes me want to eat it. Great basic, affordable, gentle cleanser.
Marc Jacobs Daisy Dream Forever: My favourite scent of the month is this new release from Marc Jacobs. It is a nice sweet, fresh and light scent that will be perfect for spring. This sort of reminds me of one of the Katy Perry Killer Queen scents but it lasts a lot longer on the skin. I did a full review here.
L'Oreal True Match Foundation: I have had this foundation for aaaages. I find that this is too dewy for me in the warmer weather so I really wanted to use it up while the weather is still cool. This would be great for normal skin but I find that this breaks down on my oily t-zone... BUT I have come to realise that this is an amazing mixing foundation! This is perfect to mix with the new L'Oreal Infallible Matte Foundation (review here) to remove some of the powdery dry finish and to prevent it from transferring. This is also great to mix with my Estee Lauder Double Wear which I also want to finish up. I find the Estee Lauder Double wear looks very cakey on me and can tend to break me out, but mixed with the True Match it works really well! I don't recommend this foundation on oily skin on its own, but it is great to mix!
Urban Decay Naked Smoky Palette: I'm not going to harp on about this palette because I did a full blog review here, I did a first impressions video with comparisons to the other Naked Palettes here and I did a smoky eye look here... BUT I did want to say that I was pleasantly surprised by this palette. If you are a smoky eye lover then this is a must have palette! If you are like me, and you don't often rock a smoky eye but you just want it to complete your UD Naked collection, you will find that you can easily work it into your daily makeup look.
Real Techniques Bold Metals 300 Tapered Blush Brush: OMG this brush is life! The RT Bold Metals brushes launched this month (I did a full review here) and lets face it they aren't cheap! If I had to pick one brush that is worth the heft price tag (I still recommend waiting for a sale) it is the 300 Tapered Blush Brush. Mine is clearly dirty but I use one side to apply blush and the other side to apply highlighter. The tapered shape would also make this perfect for setting powder or applying contour. I am considering investing in a few of these so I can have one for blush, one for highlighter and one for contouring.
The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer: This month has been the month of OTT highlighting for me. You can often see me on the weekend with a light base, mascara, brows and a shit tonne of highlighter. I think I am so desperate for sunny weather that I have been overcompensating with highlighter. The Mary-Lou isn't the only highlighter that I have been wearing (I have also been rocking MAC Soft and Gentle and Becca Opal) but this has been the main one I reach for. This is a beautiful bright light champagne gold shade that gives an intense highlight. This can look a little ashy on me in summer so I have been going crazy with it while I am still pale.
MAC Rebel Lipstick: This lipstick has been on my wish list for a long time and the only reason I took the plunge and bought it was because I wanted to order the new Whirl matte shade and wanted to qualify for free shipping (yep, I'm one of those people). I like Whirl (a review will be coming up soon) but I LOVE Rebel! This is a bright berry pink that looks darker in the tube than when applied. You can apply this lightly for a magenta toned stain or you can apply it heavily for a bright berry pop. I am kicking myself that I didn't buy this sooner as it is the most flattering berry shade (keep in mind that I love a bright lip). I will be rocking this with a tan because there is no way that I am putting this away until next winter.
Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara: If a mascara was better than sex, it would be this one... and to be honest it is a lot more pleasurable than some of the sex I have had in my life. This is only a sample but I am in love with it! This makes me look like I have great lashes even though I have stumpy sparse straight lashes. Because this is so fantastic at creating length, volume and separation, I have been wearing this just with a wash of eye shadow and no liner... NO LINER! That is almost unheard of for me.
La Roche-Posay Uvidea XL Melt In Cream SPF 50: I bought this in the Priceline skincare sales and it is a great every day sunscreen! Keep in mind that this is just a UVA protection sunscreen (so no UVB) so it won't protect you from burning if you are sitting in the sun, but it will protect you from the damage that causes aging. The reason it has made it into my favourites is because it is so light and comfortable to use! This is the sunscreen for people who cant stand the feel of sunscreen. Once the warmer weather hits this won't cut it as a sunscreen, but for every day going to work and back days it is fab!
Tony & Guy Matte Texture Dry Shampoo: I also bought these in the Priceline sales (yup, I am a savvy shopper). This is a great dry shampoo at degreasing your hair, adding texture and keeping you hair looking matte. This also doesn't leave a white cast (yay) unless you apply a crazy huge amount or if. The only negative is that it can make your hair feel a little gritty and powdery, but I guess that comes with the texturising territory. This is a great heavy duty texturising dry shampoo!
Deodorant life hack: OH I am so excited to share this trick with you! I read on the internet that you are supposed to apply deodorant at night instead of in the morning. I decided to give it a go and maaaan it works so well! I went from getting a little sweaty by midday, a bit stinky by the end of work, and extra stinky if I go out after work to maybe a little sweaty if I go out after work. There is no gross body odor scent anymore... not even after I go to the gym. This trick is magic! I apply roll on at night before I go to bed and I apply a spray deodorant before I get dressed in the morning, mainly because I feel weird not applying anything. Try this trick and let me know if it works for you!
That's it! Those are my favoruites for August!
Don't forget to follow me on social media and I will see you soon!
