Rimmel Oh My Gloss! Snog and Rebel Red - review and swatches
June 4, 2015
I was lucky enough to be sent a couple of the newest Rimmel London offerings for review. These are the Oh My Gloss! lip glosses (does that remind anyone of Lumpy Space Princess?) which retail for $13.95 and contain 6.5ml of product. You can buy these from Priceline, Big W, Coles, Woolworths, Chemist Warehouse, and My Chemist in Australia.
These are designed to be a high shine gloss that gives 6 hours of colour, shine, comfort and moisture and they contain argan oil and vitamin e.
Theses come in 8 shades (including a clear) and the two shades I have are 330 Snog and 520 Rebel Red. The one thing that I didn't like about the packaging is that the name of each shade is only on the sticker with the barcode and it's not on the actual packaging.
The packaging is a clear plastic tube that has three sides like a triangular prism. The clear plastic makes it really easy to see the shade of the gloss and also how much is left in the tube. I particularly love the doe foot applicator that is longer and more flexible than a regular doe foot applicator. It is also tapered and quite thin at the end which helps with precises application.
The product itself is quite thick but not sticky. This has a high shine appearance and feels very wet on the lips. I found that these did give a nice amount of colour to the lips, but the colour didn't last more than a couple of hours. These definitely don't last on the lips for 6 hours. The scent is a little strange too, it almost has an artificial body lotion scent to it.
Snog is a really lovely nude pink with a fine shimmer through it. The shimmer doesn't show up on the lips but it helps makes the gloss appear more shiny. This colour is very very similar to my natural lip color so I love using this as a "my lips but better" shade. I can see myself reaching for this while at work for a quick touch up, or for when I want a low maintenance makeup look.
Rebel Red has the same shimmery and shiny finish as Snog, but I didn't love the colour as much as Snog. This is a nice blue toned berry red that gives a red jelly look on the lips. On first application this does look quite nice but the colour settles and fades very quickly and leaves a faint red hint to the lips... which I personally don't like the look of. I also found that if you applied more product then you would get more colour pay off, but after a little while most of the product would migrate to the rim of your lips and would give a very uneven appearance. If you liked a faint red hint to the lips then applying this as a light gloss would suit you, but it wasn't my cup of tea. I will definitely use this gloss to add a high shine finish to a red lipstick.
Overall I think these are great value and give a really nice high shine look to the lips. I usually like long wearing matte lips, but for some reason I am loving high shine glossy lips lately and these are perfect. I LOVE Snog as it is really low maintenance, gives the lops a lovely healthy colour and shine and it wears off evenly. Rebel Red wasn't my thing, but if you like sheer red lips then you would love it, I personally just wish this was more pigmented. I am tempted to pick up the clear gloss to add a shine to any of my lipsticks.
Have you tried these? What did you think?
