May 2015 Favourites
June 9, 2015
It's my favourite time of the months... my monthly favourites! May was my birthday month so I was lucky enough to receive some lovely gifts (and also buy myself some gifts). These are the beauty products that stood out as overall winners for the month.
The main skincare product that has really impressed me this month is the Perricone MD Cold Plasma Eye (I did a full review here). This is an amazing eye cream, and sure it cost $130 but it is SO worth the money. I am the type of person who buys and uses eye cream out of habit, but never really sees a difference... this one I saw a difference in one to two applications. This has made the fine dehydration lines around my eyes nearly completely disappear and it has left my under eye area feeling ridiculously smooth. I also use the smallest amount, so I am expecting this to last nearly 6 months with morning and night application. No longer will I waste $50-$60 on eye creams that make not visible difference.
The second skincare product that I have been really enjoying is body oils. The reason I love body oils over lotions is because they moisturise really well, which is perfect for the cooler weather, and they firm the skin and heal scars (and I have fallen over twice this month and have a couple of scars I want to heal :P). I am quite picky with body oils because I love the moisture and softness they give but some body oils are too greasy. I am still in love with the True Organics Dry Oil that I mentioned in my last favourites, but since I have already used half of that bottle, I have been searching for an alternative. The body oil that has made the cut this month is the Milk & Co Body Oil which sinks into the skin really nicely, but it is quite slippery so its best to apply a small amount. This has a very herbal lavender oil scent which is quite strong but I don't mind it (and that's coming from someone who gets headaches from strong lavender scents). My only issue with this is that the packaging is horrible and the tube is too hard to squeeze, but since looking at the Milk & Co website I have realised that they have changed it to a spray packaging.
A random tool favourite is the Real Techniques Miracle Complexion Sponge. I have been getting back to applying foundation and powders with sponges, it gives such a quick and flawless application (and I have been speeding through my makeup application in the morning because it's so hard to get out of bed in the cold). I love the flat edge for applying foundation and the pointed tip for blending out under eye concealer. This is larger, has a better shape, and is much cheaper than the Beauty Blender. I have since ordered two more of these from iherb (which has 20% off Real Techniques until Wednesday).
The only nail polish that is worth a mention this month is the OCC Nail Lacquer in Radiate. You can only buy these in Australia from Lipstick Republic (not even the OCC website will ship these to Australia) and the shade range is fab. This colour is a neon red with orange undertones and I have worn it 3 weeks in May. I have been going against the trend on dark nails in winter and have been opting for the neon nails. This is my favourite red of the moment.
Onto lips! The two products that I have been loving in May are the NARS Audacious Lipsticks in Rita (see the amazing swatch above) which is a beautiful cool toned red, perfect for winter. I was given this for my birthday by the amazing Simon from The Skincare Obsessive (thanks hubby xxox). The formula of the NARS Audacious lipsticks are like no other and are completely worth the splurge. I have also been loving high shine lips this month and my top pick is the Bourjois Rouge Edition Aqua in 07 Fuchsia Perche which is a very glossy dark watermelon pink (see my full review here).
I have been loving dark brown/bronze eye looks this month and I have been reaching for these Rimmel Scandaleyes Waterproof Kohl Kajal Eyeliners in 003 Brown and 012 Bronze to apply to my waterline pretty much every day. They are creamy and easy to apply, and they are pigmented and last all day. They are a less harsh version of putting black liner in your waterline.
I was also given the Bare Minerals The Happy Place Eyeshadow Quad for my birthday from my bestie Kylie. This is the perfect palette for autumn and warm brown/coppery looks. I won't go too much into this because I have a full review with swatches here.
Bronzer by Arbonne. On first impressions I didn't think this would be a product that I would like... it comes in one shade and is quite warm toned with gold shimmer. Strangely I have been reaching for this most days for the last couple of weeks just to warm up my face and as a light handed contour. Even with the gold shimmer this works really well as both a bronzer and contour (maybe in the warmer months with the sun shining this won't work as a contour, but for now I really like it). This is the type of product that can be sheered out or built up so the one shade can work all year round. This retails for $47, but you get a huge 9.3g of product
Next is a palette that I am yet to review on my blog, but it is coming up! I have been loving the highlighter, the contour colour and the bright coral blush from the Paula's Choice Blush It On Contour Palette. The contour shade (Bronze) blends beautifully and is a really nice matte neutral shade, the blush (Delicate Coral) is a matte bright orange coral but a small amount gives the cheeks a really pretty flush, and the highlighter (Pearl) is AMAZING as it is a finely milled pink white shade that looks intense but isn't at all glittery. I will be reaching for this highlighter all of winter!
Last favourite is the Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector Pressed in Opal. This is a beautifully intense a light gold bronze highlighter. This is more of an extreme summer highlighter, so I might put it away for a few months, but I thought it was worth a mention since I bought it this month. Check out my full review here.
Those are my top products of May. What was your favourite product of the month?
