March 2015 Favourites

April 6, 2015

I am always excited to start a new month because I love going through my makeup and picking out my favourite products. I have just realised that all of my favourites are new products! Whoops! Clearly I have been doing a little too much shopping this month...

Orly Nail Lacquer in Candy Shop: One of my most used nail polishes this month is Orly Candy Shop from the Sugar High range. This is a beautiful muted, but still bright, mauve shade. This also lasts really well on the nails with minimal wear. This is a perfect bright shade for the upcoming cool weather and I can see myself wearing this a lot. You can buy it from the Orly website.

Color Club Hot Hot Hot Pants: This is my hands down most worn shade of the month. I honestly think I have worn this three times... and in a month that is a decent effort! This is from the Poptastic Pastel Neon range and a neon pastel is exactly what this is! This is a bright coral/peach shade and because it has a white pastel base, it really pops on the nails. This makes your hands look really clean and I have been receiving a lot of compliments on this shade. You can see me wearing this nail polish in some of the photos later in this post.

Make Up Store Marble Blush in Ritsona Red: If you look at the photo below I am sure that you can tell why I love this blush. It is just so pretty with its mix of red, orange and magenta marbled in the pan. This is a very pigmented blush, so it won't be for everyone, but it does mix to give a beautiful vibrant dark coral red shade (see swatch later in this post). This colour is very unique for a blush and would work well on people with deeper skintones. If you are quite fair (like me) then you can easily use it with a light hand. I love these types of blushes for the cooler weather because it gives mimics a natural flush to the cheeks and looks really pretty with fair skin. You can buy this at where it comes in two shades.

Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage Concealer in SC3: OMG! Whenever I think about this concealer it makes me happy. This is a high coverage concealer that is long wearing and oil free. This is pretty much exactly what I look for in a concealer as I have oilier skin and I find very creamy concealers don't last very well on me. Each pan comes with two shades of concealer (a larger pan of a lighter shade and a smaller pan of a darker shade). I tend to use the darker shade on blemishes and the lighter shade under my eyes, but you can also mix the two together to "camouflage" any area. This is a firm concealer that sets quite matte, so it is probably targeted at people who have normal to oily skin, but I am OBSESSED. It retails for $49 in Australia, but it contains 5.9 grams of product and you only need to use the smallest amount per application. You can buy this at David Jones. If you want to see how it applies, then you can see me trying it for the first time in my tutorial here.

NYX Butter Lipstick in Pops: I went on a bit of a drugstore binge the other week (check out my haul here) and I picked up a few awesome NYX products. One of my most used products that I bought was the NYX Butter Lipstick in the shade Pops, which is a smooth, shiny and hydrating lipstick. I love the colour! It is a mid toned rosy nude that gives a "my lips but better" look. This is the lipstick that I have been reaching for when I can't think of what to wear, or if I am wearing a bold smokey eye and want to tone it down with a nude. Love it! I bough this at Target Australia.

Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvet in Ole' Flamingo: The NYX Butter Lipstick is the one I have been reaching for when I want a nude, but when I want a bright shade then I can't go past Ole' Flamingo! It's no secret that I love the formula of the Bourjois Rouge Edition Velvets, but what I love about this shade is it's intense colour and crazy longevity. I apply this on my way to work (at around 8am) and it is still looking great without tough ups when I get home from work (after 6pm). I am loving it! I bought this on sale at Priceline but you can also buy it from ASOS.

l-r: Make Up Store blush, Chi Chi shadow, Make Up For Ever D-708 Pinky Copper and I-544 Pink Granite, NYX Pops and Bourjois Ole' Flamingo

Chi Chi Cosmetics Baked Eyeshadow in Rock With You: I have been eying this shadow for aaages but always passed it up because I never use individual eyeshadows. I had to buy it when Target were having 30% off makeup, and I am glad that I did. The pigmentation and colour of this shadow is really lovely. It is described as a burgundy plum and the formula is smooth and pigmented but maybe a little powdery. I have been wearing this shade, and only this shade, for a Autumn smokey eye look and it looks beautiful. This would suit all skin tones and eye colours. You can buy these from Target, Myer or the Chi Chi website.

Designer Brands Extend A Brow in Light Medium: Along with the Laura Mercier concealer, I think this brow product was the most exciting discovery of March. It is a tube of brown fibres that you apply with a doe foot applicator and it does wonders at filling in patchy brows. If I had nicely shaped brows then I would happily use this, and only this, on a daily basis, but with my tragic brows I still need to follow it up with a bit of shaping. These fibres also stick really well to the brows so you don't need to worry about any setting gels. My only negatives are that the doe foot applicator is quite large so it's hard to apply the fibres in the tail of your brow and I am finding that I am using it up very quickly... however at $12.99 from Chemist Warehouse I don't think it will break the bank to repurchase it. Highly recommend this for people who have patchy brows.

Make Up For Ever palette: I decided to make my own 6 pan eyeshadow palette at Salon Melbourne (see my haul here) at the start of the month and even though it wasn't a cheap exercise, I have been LOVING the shadows! These are probably some of the best quality shadows I have ever used, they definitely beat Urban Decay, MAC, Lorac etc etc. I did do a whole blog post on this palette with shade names and swatches, so check that out here for more information on the palette. My two most loved shades are D-708 Pinky Copper and I-544 Pink Granite (see swatches in the photo earlier in this post).

Coast To Coast Nourishing Body Balm, Deep Pore Purifying Polish and Pore Purifying Foaming Cleanser: I will keep this simple because I did a whole post on these three products, but the skincare brand that I have been most excited about this month is Coast To Coast. This is an Australian skincare brand that has a huge range of skincare, body products and shampoos/conditioners. What I love most is that there are three ranges that are targeted for different skin types and it makes choosing the right skincare really simple. They also have great ingredients and smell fab! Check out my full blog post here.

Katy Perry Killer Queen Spring Reign Perfume: My perfume of the month is the new Katy Perry one. Even though it's not spring in Australia, it has still been quite warm and a nice fresh perfume is always appreciated. Some of the notes are rose, violet, freesia, blackcurrant blossom, and cedar wood so it is a lot lighter and floral then the other Katy Perry scents, but I really like it! You can buy this in Priceline, Chemist Warehouse, Myer and any other place that sells Katy Perry fragrances.

Those are my favourite products of March. What was your favourite product?

  1. That blush looks amazing! Great picks!!

  2. The Makeup forever palette and blush are just gorgeous! I also have the Designer Brands Extend A Brow and I don't mind it but similar to you I find the applicator a bit big to apply it and I think I may be a bit heavy handed haha so I will need to work on that. xo
