Empties 2015 #2

March 19, 2015

Empties time again, and I am sure that by now everyone is aware what an empties post is. If not, in brief it is all the beauty products that I have used up since my last post and my thoughts on them and whether or not I would repurchase the product.

Ps if you don't to read through this excessive post (sorry about that), I will link my YouTube Empties video at the end of this post.

St Ives Green Tea Scrub: If you know me, you will know that I have gone through dozen of these green tea scrubs and it's been my holy grail scrub for years! Sadly, it has recently been reformulated and the newer formula isn't as good. I still have half a tube of the old scrub so I will do a full review of the differences soon, but it a nutshell they have reduced the amount of scrubbing particles and it's no longer worthy of holy grail status.
Repurchase: yes I would, but reluctantly

Polished London Dry Shampoo in Blighty Brunette: Another holy grail product... my all time favourite dry shampoo! It's cheap, works well and is brown tinted. I have about 3 of these as backups under my sink!
Repurchase: Already have!

Daiso Detergent for Puff and Sponge: This has been the only brush cleaner I have used for over a year now. It costs $2.80 and work so well (just be careful that it's quite strong so it can damage delicate non-synthetic brushes). I buy three bottles a time when I go to Daiso.
Repurchase: Already have!

Korres Lip Butter in Jasmine: This used to be my night time lip balm and if you asked me two years ago if I would repurchase this, I would have said yes (and in fact this is my second tub). But ever since trying the NUXE Reve De Miel lip balm there is no turning back.
Repurchase: No

Revlon Colorstay Combination Oily Skin: These are the old formula/packaging but I love this foundation! It really does provide great coverage, longevity and oil control and its my go to work foundation. My shade is Natural Beige.
Repurchase: Already have!

Benefit Instant Comeback Facial Serum: I am so glad that this is just a sample because I wasn't a fan (LOVE the eye cream from this range though). This just feels like a tacky sugary water that didn't do much for me.
Repurchase: No

Benefit Porefessional: Now this is a Benefit product that I can get behind. This is a silicone primer that helps fill in the pores and create a smooth surface for your foundation. What I love most about this is that I find that it does help my foundation stay in place and not break down as much from oil during the day.
Repurchase: Already have!

La Roche-Posay Thermal Water: I tried to use thermal waters as part of my everyday skincare routine at the start of the year, but they weren't for me! I found that they made my skin much oilier than normal so I won't be using them anymore. I do love La Roche-Posay's skincare in general though.
Repurchase: No

Lush Dream Cream Hand and Body Lotion: Even though I liked the light consistency of this moisturiser and how it didn't leave me too greasy, I wasn't a huge fan of the lavender scent. It felt like this tub lasted me 100 years.
Repurchase: Maybe

Lush So White Shower Gel: This is a limited edition shower gel. This has the same scent as the bathbomb of the same name. I find this shower to smell quite floral/sweet but clean. I did buy a bigger bottle when the Boxing Day Sales were happening.
Repurchase: Already have

Lush Cupcake Mask (sample): I got this sample from the Glamour Affair blogger event where Lush attended and made the mask as a demonstration. This is a fresh mask which expires in 2-3 weeks, and normally when I get a full size tub of this I always waste some of the product. This sample size was awesome because I got 2-3 uses from it, which how many times I would use a mask in 2 weeks anyway. I wish you could buy these fresh masks in tiny tubs! Besides that, I did like this mask. It smells like chocolate and mint and is designed for oily/blemish prone skin.
Repurchase: Yes

Lush Gorgeous Facial Moisturiser: I don't know what it is about Lush face moisturisers, but I don't really like them. This tub took me months and month to use up and I just didn't see any great effects. It also smells a little like playdough.
Repurchase: No

Jergens Natural Glow Nail Moisturiser in Fair to Medium and Jergens Daily Moisture Dry Skin Moisturiser: I really like Jergens as a basic affordable body lotion range. The Moisturiser was hydrating but lightweight and I loved the gradual tanner! The gradual tanner is a thick luxurious moisturiser that builds up a little but of colour at a time, which is great because you can slop it on without having to worry about streaks.
Repurchase: Yes (I have already repurchased the gradual tanner)

Sally Hansen Acetone Free Nail Polish Remover:
This is a must have product in my household and I have discovered that really cheap nail polish removers are really frustrating because it takes you double the time and double the amount of product to remove your nail polish. This Sally Hansen one works really well and because it's a "mid range" price, I always stock up when I see it 50% off at Chemist Warehouse. Love it.

L'Oreal Superior Preference 4.4 Riviera Dark Brown Auburn: I decided to add some warmth to my hair the other day by dying my hair to an auburn brown shade. It was a spontaneous decision so I decided to try a bottle hair dye... my mistake! The colour on this box is lighter than my natural hair, but some how my hair turned out much darker than my natural hair colour and less auburn and more like a blackened plum. The dye was fine, but I am not happy with the extreme difference in colour.
Repurchase: No

Jar Body Scrub in Africa: I really do enjoy smearing coffee grounds all over my skin - firstly, I LOVE coffee and secondly it gives such a satisfying scrub. However I wasn't a fan of the packaging because once coffee gets in the seal you can't close the bag, and I often got water in the bag. I don't think I used this often enough to miss it so I won't run out and get more now, but I will definitely buy some more down the track.
Repurchase: Yes

Dirty Works Glow Girl Buttery Salt Scrub: This is a decent dupe for the more expensive Soap and Glory Flake Away Body Scrub. Whenever I see this on sale in Coles I stock up!
Repurchase: Yes

The Body Shop Body Butter in Glazed Apple: This was a limited edition Christmas scent and I must say that if this scent was made permanent I would be a happy person. Generally I do like these body butters but they are super thick and suit more winter weather. I would repurchase if this scent came out again, otherwise I will keep sticking to my favourite strawberry scent.
Repurchase: Yes

Garnier Pure Active Daily Cleansing Gel Wash: This used to be my holy grail cleanser (before I knew what a holy grail product was) back when I was in my late teens/early 20s. I decided to give this another go and I realised that it is way too harsh for my skin these days. I ended up using it as a body wash and really enjoyed it.
Repurchase: No

Lancôme Visionnaire: I have tried a couple of Lancôme serums and this has been my favourite! It's not cheap, but if you were looking for a nice serum that will give you softer more glowing skin... I loved this one!
Repurchase: Yes

Lanolips Antibacterial Hand Cream: I love Lanolips products but I found this hand cream to be a little greasy for my liking. I ended up using it as a hand treatment before bed. The scent was lovely too.
Repurchase: No - too greasy for a daily hand cream for me

Kosmea Rose Hand Cream: This was a nice hand cream that provided moisture without greasiness. It has a pleasant rose scent that I am sure people who love rose scented things will adore. I prefer other scents over rose, so I probably wouldn't repurchase it. I did like that it contains rosehip oil though!
Repurchase: No

Antipodes Rejoice Light Facial Day Cream: I am a BIG fan of this moisturiser. In fact, I have already repurchased it. It is a thick moisturiser that feels luxurious and amazing, but it sinks in nicely and doesn't leave an oily heavy feel to the skin. Love love love!
Repurchase: Already have

NS-8 Foot and Leg Moisturiser and NS-8 Heel Balm Complex: I like both of these products! I am the type of person who needs to apply moisturiser to their legs and feet most nights before going to bed. I loved the minty/menthol scent and coolness of the foot and leg moisturiser and I loved that the Heel Balm feels like a regular moisturiser, yet still helps prevent dry cracked feet. Never again will I bother with thick greasy balms! I am very impressed with this range.
Repurchase: Yes

La Roche Posay Anthelios XL Melt In Cream: This has become my holy grail sunscreen because it's designed for sensitive skin, is SPF50+, is reasonably affordable (around $25) and it does not make my oily/combo skin oilier, it does not clog pores, and I can't even notice that I'm wearing it. I will continue to repurchase this when I have used up other sunscreens that I currently have.
Repurchase: Yes

Embyolisse Lair Crème Concentre: Let's be honest, I bought this because the Pixiwoo sisters used to rave about it. I found this at IMATS 2013 and it has pretty much been sitting in my bathroom ever since. It is just a basic no frills moisturiser, which is fine, but it didn't do enough for me to want to reach for it over other moisturisers I had... I forced myself to finish it up.
Repurchase: No

The end! These are always painfully long posts to write (I can't even be bothered proof reading it lol). Let me know if you have tried any of these products and what your thoughts of them are!

  1. I worried that if I bought the Embyolisse that I would be frustrated with how standard it is, so it's good to hear you felt that way, too. Glazed Apple smelt so good, didn't pick anything up from the line though and kinda regretting it now...I do think I like the latest Poppy release a bit more though. Nice work on the Lancôme serum too!
