December 2014/January 2015 beauty favourites!

February 6, 2015

This is quite possibly the saddest looking bunch of favourites I have ever featured on my blog! ...and this is from December AND January, tisk tisk.

That's not saying these products aren't fab... they definitely are, I just don't think I have been playing with much fun new makeup lately. To be honest I didn't do a December Favourites because I did a giant favourites of 2014 at the end of December... and in the past few weeks I have been dedicated to my Makeup Diet which has made my daily makeup a little less exciting than normal. Nevertheless, these are the products that spring to mind when I think of favourites over the past few months.

I also did a video about these products (and a couple of fails) here.

I totally forgot to photograph blotting paper (possibly because it is always in my handbag), but I have been relying on blotting paper so much over the past couple of months to keep my face from looking like a ball of oil... damn you summer! I have been using the Swisspers Blot Off Oil Tissues and I have been using at lunch time to prevent my makeup from completely slipping off. Here are some fun instagram examples of me blotting... and yes, I am always on instagram so feel free to follow me and say hi!

Next is skincare, and I only have a couple of favourites this month. The first is actually a very recent purchase, but I instantly fell in love with it. It is the Antipodes Aura Manuka Honey Mask which is pretty much just a thick hydrating mask that contains antioxidants and is some how supposed to help with spots and blemishes. I love this mask! I have only used it a couple of times but it leaves my skin so soft and smooth. I have had pretty crappy skin towards the end of January (I blame the excessive oiliness) so this has helped a bit. I will do an updated post about all of the Antipodes products that I currently have shortly.

Next is the Milk and Co Hand Quench Nourishing Hand Cream. This is the perfect every day hand cream because it is nourishing, lightweight (there is no greasy residue) and it has a lovely fresh zingy citrus scent. The scent is pretty strong, but if you love scents like citronella then you will love this.

Makeup time! I have been pretty boring lately due to my makeup diet, but one thing that I have fallen in love with again is the Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow Liner in Marry Up. I have been using this pretty much every day to work for the past few weeks and I love it! It is the best warm bronze shade (see swatch above), it has the best pigmentation and it does not crease at all (and doesn't need a primer or a powder to set it). I am only trying to use it up because I have had it for years (and it hasn't dried out!) and this shade has been discontinued. It will be sad to see it go but I have been really enjoying using it on a daily basis.

My nail polish of the month is the Sally Hansen Miracle Gel polish in All Chalked Up. I did a full review of the few shades that I have (see review here) and this was the stand out shade. It is a lovely muted lavender grey and it is opaque in one coat.

The bright lipstick of choice over December and January was Angela from the NARS Audacious range. This is a beautiful bright pinky purple (see swatch above) and I have been wearing it anywhere and everywhere. If you haven't tried a NARS Audacious lipstick then I urge you to go out and get one... they aren't cheap but they are mind blowing good!

Last favourite was a palette that I received for Christmas (see full review and swatches here) and this was the main palette that I was using before I started using the Benefit cream shadow on a daily basis. This is the Kat Von D Monarch Eyeshadow Palette and it contains some really nice neutral, but interesting, shades. My favourite shade is probably the burnt orange shade and I tend to use it in the crease to warm up a boring nude look.

So that's it! I can already tell you in the first week of February that my favourites of Feb will be a lot more exciting than this lot... but I do love and highly recommend all of the products mentioned this month!
