The Body Shop Strawberry Body Sorbet
December 15, 2014
One good thing about being a blogger is that sometimes you get products explained to you. I was at The Body Shop Blogger event last month, and I had a lovely lady from The Body Shop explain to me what some of their newer products actually do. I have noticed that The Body Shop have some really impressive products, but unless you actually chat to someone who is quite knowledgeable in store, the products don't really explain themselves and you can easily walk past them.
One of those products is the Body Sorbets. I was given one of these to take home and try, and of course I chose the Strawberry scent. They also come in Mango, Moringa, and Pink Grapefruit. These contain 200ml of product and retail for $19.95 in Australia.
Now, what is this body sorbet? It is pretty much a hydrating body gel. You use it much like a moisturiser, but instead of being a cream formula that contains a lot of oils and can leave your skin quite greasy, this is a gel that provides hydration.
You might be wondering what the difference between moisturising and hydrating is? Well if you have dry skin then you will probably need to moisturise to prevent alleviate some of the dryness, however if you are more like me and you have normal to oily skin then you might need hydration instead. Hydration is pretty much adding in water into the skin. I have been told on numerous occasions that I have dehydrated skin, and am definitely aware that I have a nasty habit of not drinking enough water and drinking too much caffeine. Even though I have oily skin, whenever I step out of the shower or I wash my face, my skin feels tight because it is dehydrated. This gel contains water and helps add hydration to your skin without adding the heavier oily type products that are in moisturisers.
Now, I clearly love the concept, but what do I think of the actual product?
Firstly, I love the scent! I have always been a huge fan of the whole range of strawberry products from The Body Shop. Secondly, I think this works really well for what it sets out to do. It is a nice cooling gel (that you can even keep in the fridge for the really hot weather that will be coming up) that does add hydration to the skin without making it greasy. The only downside is that I find that this feels a little gritty and uneven to apply, which prevents it from feeling smooth and luxurious. That isn't the end of the world, but it definitely is a noticeable downside and I know it can be the thing that puts people off this product.
Now do I recommend it? I do, but I hesitate because of the uneven gritty texture. This will be perfect for Summer as it doesn't feel heavy or greasy, and I know people who have oilier skin and who struggle finding a very light lotion will love this... but once again, the texture is very off putting.
I recommend trying this in store before you buy it so you can see if you can deal with the strange gritty texture. Besides that, I think this is a great product and I look forward to seeing more body gels pop up on the market!
