Jane Iredale mini brand focus

October 11, 2014

Hey hey! I thought I would do a quick review of some Jane Iredale makeup products that I picked up at a blogger event a couple of weeks ago.

Now, this is a mineral makeup range that is sold only online or in salons. It is also in the high-end price range of makeup...so it won't be everyone's cup of tea. After I went to the event, I was sold on their story and also walked away with a long wish list of products that I want to pick up soon. You can check out more of the range at the Jane Iredale webiste or check out the list of stockists near you.

The reason why I was so impressed with this range is that they are pharmaceutical grade, mineral, organic, non-comedogenic, don't contain irritants etc. So pretty much if you have any skin irritations, sensitivities, concerns (like acne), or have had a skin treatments or surgery then this is the range of makeup for you! This is the only range that I know of that is recommended by doctors because it doesn't contain any nasty chemicals and actually allows the skin to breathe. It's pretty much makeup that has no negative side effects to your skin.

People who use this makeup claim that once you start then you won't ever go back to other brands. ...Now I don't want that to happen to me because makeup is my hobby, but I am very tempted to try out some of their base products to see if it has any overall effect on my skin (I still suffer from pimples in my late 20s and I am finding that my skin is becoming more sensitive as I am getting older).

Aaaaanyway.... I walked away with a goodie back with a few bits and pieces and these are the products that I have been using the most, so I will let you know what I think!

First up is the Jane's Signature Gilded Collection 24 Karat Gold Dusts. These are safe to use on the eyes, face, body and lips. The three shades in this tin are Silver, Gold, and Bronze (see swatches below) but they also come individually and also in the shades Champagne and Rose Gold. I have mainly used these on the eyes but I have also dabbled with using the Silver or Gold shade as a face highlighter. These are very sparkly and glittery and don't have much base colour to them... so I didn't love them as an all over eye shadow, but they are nice to add an sparkle accent to the lid. I think these are gorgeous as a highlighter on the face, but they are very chunky and glittery so they aren't for everyone. I am not sure how much this set retails for (I lost my info sheet) but individually they are $22.95 each here, which I think is too expensive for what they are.

Lip Fixation Craze - lipgloss, stain, and combined. Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliners in Brown and Black, 24 Karat Gold Dusts in Silver, Gold and Bronze.

Now the Jelly Jar Gel Eyeliners are where I get excited. Gel liners are my first preference for a liner - they contain a lot of product, they don't dry out, they don't budge, they stay bold all day, and are really easy to apply (once you get the right brush and have a little practice). These did not let me down! They are a very firm formula (so you don't pick up much product on your brush) but because it is very pigmented then you only need a small amount to get a bold line. The liner lasts all day, doesn't budge, and can be used on the waterline. I prefer the Black over the Brown, mainly because I have quite dark features and I find that liners that are lighter than my eye or hair colour tend to look a little odd... but I guess I can always mix the two to make my own shade. These can also be used as eye shadow bases or cream eye shadows and they come in a green and purple shade as well. These aren't cheap at $39 each at Adorebeauty, but they are worth investing in.

Lastly is the Lip Fixation in the shade Craze. This is a long wearing lip stain with a gloss... so it is similar concept to all of the other two step long wearing lipsticks, but this is a thinner stain rather than a thick heavy lipstick. The thin stain is a lovely formula that doesn't feel heavy or annoying and it allows you wear a sheer stain or build it up. I do find that you need to apply a gloss over the top of this because the finish of the stain can be quite sticky. I think this Craze shade is the perfect coral pink for Spring/Summer and I can foresee myself wearing to this to work often. This does last me easily until lunch time, so if you like to sip on coffee or tea throughout your day and you are always wearing off your lipstick then this may be a good option for you. The gloss does contain some shimmer, but it doesn't look sparkly or frosty on the lips, instead it looks more shiny. My only negative is that the packaging really takes off a lot of the product off the doe foot applicator, which is find for the thin stain, but I find that I need to re-dip the gloss about 3 times to get enough product out to cover the lips. These come in 10 shades and cost $47.60 here, which I also think is on the expensive side... but if you found a shade that you adored then it may be worth it.

So overall I am most impressed with the gel liners, but I think the rest of the products are too expensive. I am willing to invest in some of their base products (their high coverage bb cream and oil control primer look amazing) as I know that base products can really help your skin, but I won't be forking out the money for the whole range of makeup.

Have you tried any Jane Iredale makeup? What did you think?

  1. I've tried a few things from Jane Iredale. I have the Dust in Champagne and I like it, but I don't think it's anything special. I used to use their bronzer every single day before moving onto others. It's super natural and lovely on the skin, though it does have sparse glitter in it. The gel liners sound awesome though, and I love the shade of that lippy!

  2. Those gel eyeliners look phenomenal! Must try :)

  3. I haven't heard of this Brand before, I look forward to checking it out.
