Bellabox August 2014

August 24, 2014

This is a little overdue, but better late than never. The August Bellabox arrived on the 18th of August... and for everyone who isn't aware, Bellabox is a monthly beauty subscription box that retails for $15 per month. Check out the Bellabox website for more information.

I also did an opening video for this box...

This months theme is "sport your style"... whatever that means. All I know is that I don't think of turquoise eyeshadow and silver nail polish as being particularly sporty.

There are two full sized products and a few samples in this months box. To see all of the information and retail priced of the full size products, check out the information card above.

Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in Shoot The Moon (full size): I love this formula of nail polish and I already have quite a few shades from this range. If I loved this shade then this would almost make up the value of the box, but sadly I got this shimmery metallic silver, which although is quite a nice colour, it doesn't suit me at all.

Savoir Faire Cosmetics Eyeshadow in Valkyrie (full size): Just like the nail polish, if you loved the shade of the eyeshadow in your box then this would be an amazing box. Savoir Faire is an Australian cosmetics company that sells pretty pricey makeup. From what I have previously samples from this brand (from previous Bellaboxes), I can't see what makes this brand worth the money. This eyeshadow is ok, it's sheer but blends easily, the packaging is a little overcomplicated (hint: you need to squeeze the sides to make the lid open), and the shade is a nice blue teal shade with a slight gold sheen (see swatch below).

Aveeno Daily Moisturising Lotion (sample): Aveeno is a brand that pops up in subscription boxes all the time. It's a nice moisturiser, but nothing outstanding.

Burt's Bees Radiance Day Cream (sample): I have actually been using the night cream from this range (see my review here), so I am excited to try the day cream. This isn't a cheap day cream so I think this is a great opportunity to try before you buy. I also love the scent of this cream.

OGX Nourishing Coconut Milk Shampoo and Conditioner (samples): I used to use these hair products back in the day when I first moved out of house and started buying my own shampoo and conditioner. I remember quite liking it so I am looking forward to trying them again.

Palmer's Cocoa Butter Formula (sample): I have a bottle of this under my sink so I can't imagine needing to use this skimpy sachet any time soon. I think this is a nice basic lotion that most people would quite like (as long as they like the cocoa scent).

That's the box for August. To be honest, I wasn't super impressed with this months box, not because the value was bad, but mainly because I have too much stuff and I feel like I really don't need any of it. I still recommend subscription boxes to people who want to try new things, but if you're like me and you struggle to fit all of the products you currently have in your bathroom, then you might not want extra samples thrown on to the pile.

What did you think of this month's Bellabox?

  1. This looks like a good try-it sort of box. I think a good use for the nail polish would probably be nail art or silvery accents on french tips. It's a shame the eyeshadow is sort of 'meh', because the packaging looks so pretty. If I owned it, I would probably just admire it every now and then instead of use. "It's pretty! Who cares if it's not very good!"

  4. I tried Bellabox for two months, but it just wasn't worth it. Both times I got boxes that were vastly inferior to others sent out, so I've unsubscribed. I appreciate that it's a lucky dip, but unless everyone gets the same stuff I think a lot of people are dissatisfied as a result. I was much happier with my Violet Box and think it's absolutely worth the extra $7.95.

  5. I know what you mean about this box. While the value is there, I feel like it's been done before. If you get bad colours, it makes the box pretty worthless. I dumped Bellabox many many months ago and I haven't missed it at all.
