My Bio Sculpture Gel manicure experience

I was invited to have a Bio Sculpture Gel manicure done at their Victorian training center last week, and of course I was keen to try it out! I am a bit of a manicure noob, and have only ever had 3 professional manicures in my life! I have heard of gel manicures (who hasn't heard of products like Shellac!), but I had never previously heard of Bio Sculpture Gel manicures.

For all the other manicure noobs out there, I thought I would give a bit of background into Bio Sculpture Gel. This is a product that was developed in South Africa, and came to Australian salons in 1996. It is the first company in it's class to receive a 5 star safety rating, and unlike most other nail product in salons, it actually protects and strengthens nails. But of course the thing that is most exciting about this process is that it is chip resistant and lasts 3 weeks (it lasts longer but your nails start to grow out).

I have had my manicure on for a week now and it looks as good as it did when I first got it done!

This a salon only process, so if you were interested you can check out the Australian Bio Sculpture website to see where your local salon is. The prices of the manicure vary from salon to salon, so make sure you call around if you have a few near by. I have 6 salons within 5km of my postcode, and what I like is that the search shows which salons have higher qualifications.

There are currently 171 shades to choose from, and I decided to choose the shade 166 Blazing Lacquer, which is from their Smoke and Mirrors Autumn collection. This is a beautiful bright orange toned red.

The lovely Diane did my nails. Diane is a mega super duper highly qualified manicurist who has owned numerous salons and a training academy, and now teaches Bio Sculpture Gel manicures at their Victorian academy. She was such a fun lady to talk to, and this is by far the most amazing manicure I have ever received!

The process is pretty simple, I firstly received a manicure which included some of the Bio Sculpture Gel nail treatment products. Then she applied a base coat, two coats of the gel polish, and a top coat... and each coat needed to be set with a UV lamp for 30 seconds to a minute. The process probably took an hour all up, but we were having a good chat, and Diane was also teaching me about the product and her background. I also loved that she used an actual brush to apply the product, and not some crappy plastic nail polish brush... classy!

To get this manicure removed, I will need to get it professionally done, but it is supposed to only take 15 minutes to remove.

I was also lucky enough to take home some goodies to help keep my nails in good condition. Some of the products I received were; the Vitamin Dose which is designed to stimulate healthy nail growth (and smells like cucumber), the Cuticle Oil which re-hydrates dry cuticles, the Cuticle Cream which is supposed to help soften cuticles, enhance nail growth and prevent brittle nails, and I also got a High Gloss Top Coat, an Acetone Free Polish Remover, and some nail files, nail buffers and cuticle pusher stick things.

Did you know that you are supposed to use cuticle oils and cream every day?! I had no idea! I have started applying the Vitamin Dose and the Cuticle Oil while I am watching TV at night or while I am at my computer, and I apply the Cuticle Cream before I go to bed. I haven't been diligent with using them every day, but I have been using them at least every second day :P I was told that my nails were dehydrated and were splitting a bit.

Overall I loved my experience with Bio Sculpture Gel! I have definitely been converted, and even though I won't be getting these manicures done all the time (I love playing with nail polish too much), I will definitely look at getting this done again if I am heading away on a holiday (no one wants to deal with chipping nail polish on a holiday!) or if I have a special occasion coming up.

I just want to thank everyone at Bio Sculpture Gel who let me have this experience, it was a lot of fun... and I have been obsessed with staring at my nails all week!

Has anyone else tried Bio Sculture Gel? What did you think of it?
