OFRA Cosmetics Fixline Eyeliner Gel

I stumbled across this gem a few weeks ago when I was sent it to trial... I hadn't ever heard anything about OFRA Cosmetics so I was curious to give it a go.

This is the Fixline Eyeliner Gel, which only comes in the shade black (in Australia), and it retails for $26 from the OFRA website. Just a quick heads up - this liner will be featured in my April favourites for sure!

To start off with, I thought I should say that I am a huge fan of gel liners, they are definitely my pick for a winged liner (which is what I wear most days). In general I think they stay put and they last longer than liquid liners, and I find that they are easier to apply.

The only gel liners that I have are MAC Fluidlines (which I have 5 shades of) and one Maybelline Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner (which I am not a huge fan of). I thought the best way to review this liner is by comparing it to these more well known gel liners.

Firstly, you can see that I have been using this quite a lot lately! It is a pretty good dupe for the MAC Fluidline in Blacktracks (you will see from the swatches later that they look very similar) but it is a lot wetter in consistency. The MAC Fluidline is more of a mousse texture and the OFRA Fixine is more of a thick paint... and the Maybelline liner is more of a hard lump of clay!

I don't mind the wet paint consistency, but I do find it a little more time consuming to apply than the Fluidline. This is because I don't like picking up too much product on the brush at any one time, as it can get quite messy... so it's best to just apply a little at a time. This requires your to re-dip your brush more often and does make this slightly more time consuming to apply. This isn't a big deal, but it is the main difference I have noticed between the MAC Fluidline and this liner.

In terms of value, the OFRA liner is by far the best value of the three... well the Maybelline one is the best value, but it's too dry and not pigmented enough so I don't recommend it. Both the MAC Fluidline and the Maybelline Eyestudio liner contain 3g of product, whereas the OFRA Fixline contains 5g of product.

Even though the OFRA jar is much smaller than the others, you can see from the photo above that the other two jars are mainly glass, whereas the OFRA jar actually contains mainly product!

The MAC Fluidline retails for $32 and contains 3g of product, and the OFRA Fixline retails for $26 and contains 5g of product.

Top: MAC Fluidline, Bottom: OFRA Fixline

In the swatch photo above, the MAC Fluidline in Blacktracks is on the top, and the OFRA Fixline Eyeliner Gel is on the bottom. Both liners give a bold black line that doesn't budge, works well on the lid and the waterline/tight line, and neither liner cracks or flakes on the lid. I think the OFRA one gives a more pigmented and "blacker" line, but because of the consistency of the gel it does take a little longer to apply because I find myself having to re-dip my brush more often. The one thing I can't comment on is whether this eventually dries out in the jar faster than the MAC Fluidline, but time will tell.

Overall I really do love this liner and I would recommend it to anyone who likes a bold gel liner that doesn't budge. This is much better value than a MAC Fluidline, and if this came in different shades, I would order them in a heartbeat. I would love to see a cobalt blue shade from this brand!

  1. OFRA do the Red Carpet Kolour, which is lovely... a bit expensive, but nice for a special occasion.
