Illamasqua Shattered Star Nail Varnish

Rarely can I justify buying a whole collection of nail polishes, so I was very lucky to be send the new Shattered Star collection of nail varnish by Illamasqua. I was almost squealing with job when I received these, because if you have read my blog for any period of time, you would know that Illamasqua is one of my absolute favourite brands!

These nail polishes are part of the new Glamore collection and they retail in Australia for $24 from Illamasqua counters at Myer or £15 from the Illamasqua website (which does ship internationally). These nail polishes contain 15ml of product each.

I also did a swatch video below if you want to see how the polishes apply

Being shattered star polishes, they are all very sparkly (which I adore). The three shades available are:

Marquise is a vibrant dark neon orange-red base and it's packed with fine gold shimmers. This has the strongest base shade of the three, but the finest glitter. This gives a modern orange-red shimmery nail.

Fire Rose is a medium rosy pink base with small and large flecks of pink and silver glitter. This is the perfect girly nail polish... it's a flattering pink and is jam packed with sparkles, it's a very pretty shade.

Trilliant has the same effect at Fire Rose, but it is a pinky nude shade that has small and large flecks of nude and silver glitter. This is the least pigmented of the three as it barely has a base colour. This does appear more silver on the nails, and I think this would be perfect as an accent nail for a nude nail look. I am very excited about this shade because a nice sparkly nude is a very rare find.

One coat
Two coats

These nail polishes apply like a dream! They are so pigmented and even that you only really need one coat for a full on shimmery effect. You can apply two coats if you want a bolder sparkle effect, but its not necessary. Even though these aren't the cheapest nail polishes, I think they are great value because it is super rare to see a sparkly nail polish that gives this finish with 1-2 coats!

These also last a good week on the nails. Instead of them wearing or chipping off, I found myself wanting to pick these off at the end of the week because they are quite chunky and are fun to pick off. They are a pain to take off, but at least you will only need to remove it once a week!.

The only downside to these nail polishes is that they feel very rough and scratchy... they can start catching on jumpers and fluffy material. I personally recommend applying a decent thick top coat, or two coats of a normal top coat, to even out the sand paper effect a little, and to make these polishes really shine. Of course, if you like textured nails, then you could skip the top coat... but they can get a little annoying and they can start to lose the shine.

Overall, I am very impressed and obsessed with these polishes. I would love to see Illamasqua bring out more shades in this formula (a navy blue would be to die for!).

I highly recommend these if you love glitter polishes!

  1. I love these! They're so pretty, aren't they! xx

  2. These are so pretty, I really like Trilliant the most. Maybe these would be good for an accent nail if they are annoying to remove. I love your blog by the way!

    1. Thanks! I love Trilliant too! :)

  3. I love all of three shades....they are so pretty.....xoxoxo...^_^

  4. Wow, love the glittery effect of these! All three shades are fab. Have a wonderful weekend, Kat! xo

  5. I love glitter polishes but I'm so over how awful they are to remove that I don't bother any more :( Hopefully when Sephora does open here (I'm still dubious!) I'll be able to get my hands on their new Formula X 'Delete All' which sounds promising.

    1. Yeah... we'll see what happens :P

  6. These polishes are gorgeous!! I'm such a sucker for nail polishes, especially glitter ones! I love the orange one the most!

  7. I almost bought one of those polishes when I was at the counter during the week!! Sooo pretty!! But instead, I left with 3 makeup items instead hahaha.
    xxx Kat @ Katness

    1. Haha, I have done that at Illamasqua a few times :P

  8. Kinda loving these, so when I saw the new Maybelline "Brocades" nail polishes in target today and they looked simialar I couldn't resist - they seem to be comparable if not a dupe, they give an opaque glittery finish in 1coat and are $5.99 a pop. Still might splurge on that Marquise colour though.
