Burt's Bees Classics

One thing that sucks about living in Melbourne is that most PR companies and blogger events happen in Sydney. The PR company that works with Burt's Bees were holding an event in Sydney, but they were lovely enough to send me a gift pack with all of the Burt's Bees most popular products because I couldn't make it to the event. I thought that was so sweet of them, and this is by far the most impressive PR box that I have received to date, so I thought I would share it with you and also give a quick review of each of the products.
I thought I would quickly address the point of PR companies and blogging. Firstly, I know some people are under the impression that when you start a blog, you get PR samples thrown at you left, right and center... I wish! I have been writing my blog for almost 2 years now (it's my blogs 2nd year birthday next month) and I have written nearly 500 blog posts in that time (this is number 492), and it has only been in the last 6 months that I have been receiving the random PR package or been invited to blog events. If you want to get into blogging to get free products, there are definitely ways to be proactive and contact PR companies (which I never knew about), but you do need the numbers (subscribers/page views) to make them take you seriously... so the take home message is, blog for the love of it, not for the love of free things.

I am still very appreciative when I do get sent products here and there, not only does it help me try out new brands and products, but also because I don't want to think about how much money I have spent on beauty products in the last 2 years! If I mention a PR product on my blog (which up until recently was very very very rare), not only do I mention that it was sent to me, but I also review it like any other products.... after all, if I am sent their "best products", I am going to put them to the test!

Onto the pack that I found so impressive... One thing that I thought was really cute about this Burt's Bees pack was that it came in a mini box replica of the Turkey Coop where Burt' s Bees started. I have since cut a hole in the side and its now a house for my cat :P

Inside the box there was a package, a information booklet about how Burt's Bees started, and there were also information sheet about each of the classic products.

When I opened the booklet about the Burt's Bees story, I was instantly impressed! It started playing a video (which you can watch on the Burt's Bees website) about the company started. How awesome is that!

These are Burt's Bees classic products:

Burt's Bees Coconut Foot Creme: I have used this foot creme before, it's a thick balm type product that has a coconut oil/minty scent. This is one of those really thick sticky products, and they would work best with socks over the top, but it does leave your feet soft in the morning.

Burt's Bees Hand Salve: This is a product that I haven't tried previously. Like the foot cream, this is quit a greasy product, but it isn't as thick as the foot cream. I don't think I would be able to wear this during the day (I can't handy the feel of greasy hands), but it would be a miracle worker for people who have super dry hands. I will probably start using this before I go to bed, or I can imagine this being great on elbows and knees as well. It has a strong eucalyptus oil/herbal scent and the tub contains a crazy amount of product (85g and you only need the smallest amount!).

Burt's Bees Shea Butter Hand Cream: This is a more typical hand cream, and even though it is light and nourishing, it has a very plant like scent, which is a little odd.

Burt's Bees Beeswax Lip Balm - Tube and Tin: OMG! This is my favourite lip balm ever! I have two tubes of this (one for my bag and one for my house) and now I have a third tube (maybe for my car) and also a tin! (for my bedside?). I have never tried the tin version, and I jus realised that the pot contains double the amount of the tube (and is only $1 more expensive). This is a nice thick balm that has a tingly peppermint scent, and I adore it! The formula is the same for the tin and the tube.

Burt's Bees Lemon Butter Cuticle Cream: I have had this cuticle cream for a while now. It is very effective at keeping your cuticles soft, and it also smells amazing (I often only use this just so I can have nice smelling hands). This smells like zingy lemon and I wish all of my skincare had this scent!

Burt's Bees Almond Milk Beeswax Hand Creme: This is another product that I have tried before, and it current lives on my coffee table. It is a this a thick hand cream (but not greasy like the hand salve), and it comes in a cute glass jar. This has a strong almond scent, so if you like almonds then you will adore this! If you hate almond scents, the scentnwill probably put you off buying this, but if you are indifferent you will probably like this product if you like thick hand creams. I did a full review here.

So that's my quick review of the Burt's Bees Classics... my picks here are the lip balms, the cuticle cream and the almond hand cream.

Have you tried any of these products? What did you think?

  3. Their packaging is so iconic, love it! I love their lip balm too, and my mum used to use the hand salve on some bad dermatitis she got.

  5. I've never tried Burts Bees before. I hardly ever need to buy lip balm, they always seem to just turn up. I would love to try the cuticle cream though, mine are horribly dry.

  6. I have yet to try Burts Bees, I keep meaning to but I haven't needed anything (I'm trying to buy on a need only basis). I plan on trying the Hand/nail products when I need to replace mine.
