Arbonne Eye Shadow in Divine Plum and Lipstick in Candy - review and swatches

March 12, 2014

This is a bit of a weird review for me. I have been wanting to try Arbonne products for a while now (especially the raved about primer), but Arbonne is a very pricey brand (up there with brands like MAC and NARS) and you can only buy it online or through a rep. I haven't bought any Arbonne products because I really don't like spending large amounts of money on products that I can't test in store, I am also not a fan of reps because I'm the type of person who likes to take their time and have a good think when shopping. When I was contacted to test these products, I was more than happy to accept so I can finally try out some Arbonne products and see what all the hype was about!

Arbonne is known in the beauty community for good quality products that are derived from botanically based ingredients. It is a bit of a shame that I associate Arbonne with a few Arbonne reps from the beauty community who tend to bombard their blog/youtube channel with Arbonne products. I have always found this to be a bit of a turn off when it comes to any brand, and I have also coined the term "Arbonning", which means excessively pushing a brand in reviews or videos.

Never-the-less, I was instantly impressed with the quality of this eye shadow and lipstick. You can check out the full range of products from the Arbonne website. I believe shipping from the Australian website is around $9-10.

The individual eye shadows retail for $27 and contain 2.2g of product. They come in a sturdy black plastic container that has a clear window in the lid with a silver Arbonne logo on it. I received the shade Divine Plum which is a beautiful warm toned purple that has fine gold shimmer. This is a mineral infused shadow, and it has great colour pay off and blends beautifully (see swatch below). The quality of this shade is very impressive, and if I could swatch the other shades in person, I would have no problem paying $27 for the formula. This is the perfect eyeshadow shade for Autumn and it works really nicely with gold or bronze shades.

The lipstick I received is in the shade Candy. This retails for $37 and contains 2.17g of product. This comes in a long thin lipstick packaging which feels quite heavy and good quality. I also love that this is a thin lipstick because it helps with accurate application.

This lipstick is a candy pink shade (accurately named) and it has an almost purple sheen to it. When I normally think of frosty pink lipsticks I think of the 80s, but there is something about this shade that I love! It is the perfect mid toned bright pink shade and the shimmer actually adds something quite unique and fun. The application is very smooth and the shade has nice pigmentation, you only need a thin application to get a bold colour. The lipstick also doesn't dry out my lips or emphasise any dry patches, so it's also very comfortable to wear. This doen't last as long as I am used to (but hey, I usually wear matte lipsticks) but this does last a couple of hours (with minimal eating/drinking) and it also fades off really evenly so you don't have stress about reapplying. Just like the eyeshadow, if I could swatch some of these lipsticks I would have no issue spending $37 for the formula.

Overall, these products have lived up to the Arbonne hype. I also love that I was sent some shades that I normally wouldn't have chosen myself, but ended up loving. I don't know if I would run out and buy more Arbonne products too soon, purely because I would prefer to try before I buy when it comes to makeup in this price range, but I am very interested in trying more products from this brand in the future (especially the primer and foundation - if I can ever find my exact colour match). If you have an Arbonne rep or are thinking of ordering a product or two, I do recommend checking out the eye shadows and lipsticks!

  3. I'm a fan of the Arbonne products I have used, but I will admit that ever since publishing my reviews, I've been getting random emails all the time asking if I need a rep and that they can send me products to try, etc. I always politely say no thanks, as I really don't want to get into the whole pushy rep thing. But I do think they are worth the cash!

  4. I have avoided Arbonne products because there are SO many pushy reps around, it cheapens the brand for me and makes me uncomfortable. I changed by mind last week when I was given an Arbonne lipstick in a swap and omg it's so creamy! The formula is beautiful, really exceptional. Now I have to go crawling back to a rep somewhere and apologise for chasing them away like they were Mormons...

    2. Kat the beauty of Arbonne is that you can just order online at a discount too. The role of an Arbonne Consultant is supposed to be that of customer service and not pushy. I'm sorry you've had that kind of experience, not all are like that. I think of it a little like recommending a great restaurant or hairdresser; tell someone about them, be available if they want more info but not pester them to try make them eat there. Try before you buy is also a role of the Arbonne consultant. I'm happy to help if you'd love to explore further products or interested to find out how to get them at a discount.

  5. the lip colour looks gorgeous on you! I have a few Arbonne products.. did the rounds of the Arbonne 'parties' numerous times lol.. but I cannot use any of their skincare range - my skin hates them! Next time I get dragged to a party I'll be checking out their lipsticks x

  6. Loving the gold shimmers embedded within the purple shadow- gives it that much extra depth and diamension! The thin lipstick bullet of Arbonne's lipsticks makes application a breeze :) xx

  7. Super cute kitten pic! Just use this ID#14244635 on the Arbonne website and then you can avoid the trouble… also, there's a 45 day money back guarantee if you don't like the color.
