Crazy Rumors Lip Balm in Red Hibiscus

February 7, 2014

Today I am quickly reviewing a lip balm that I received from the Miss Pearl Store, along with a makeup remover that I reviewed the other week (see post here). The Miss Pearl Store is an Australian store that sells natural and good for the planet beauty products. Some of the brands stocked include Priti NYC nail polishes, Scotch Naturals nail polish , Manic Panic hair dye, SW Basics of Brooklyn, and Crazy Rumours.

This review is of the Crazy Rumours lip balm in the scent Red Hibiscus. This retails for $5.90 at the Miss Pearl Store, and there is a flat rate of $7 for shipping in Australia, and $15 worldwide.

You can use the discount code "teamkat" for 10% off your order!

The packaging of this lip balm is similar to that of the Burt's Bees lip balms, where you have to peel off a strip to be able to use the product. Other than that, this is a pretty typical lip balm packaging and the design is quite clean and simple. The colour of the logo and the image on each lip balm changes with each scent.

I wanted to mention that this brand has some amazing scents available, and I am really interested in buying a couple more (not that I need any more lip balms) just to try out some of the scents.

The scents available are:
  • Amaretto
  • Apple Spice
  • Banana Split
  • Bee My Honey
  • Candy Corn
  • Coffee Beans
  • French Vanilla
  • Leaping Bunny (plum and apricot)
  • Mint Chocolate
  • Mocha
  • Orange Bergamot
  • Orange Clove
  • Orange Creamsicle
  • Peppermint Lemongrass
  • Raspberry Sherbet
  • Red Hibiscus
  • Spiced Chai
  • Star Anise

The list of ingredients are in the photo above, and you will notice that it contains 100% natural ingredients and it is cruelty free and vegan.

I don't know about the other balms in the range (I assume they are all the same), but this one is a clear balm that doesn't leave any colour on your lips. I am struggling to pin point the scent but the site claims that this smells like roses... I honestly think it smells more like yellow Allen's lolly snakes - so it's quite a sweet fruity scent.

As for the formula, I honestly don't think it's as great as the Burt's Bees Bees Wax lip balm (my current favourite lip balm), but I think it is better than lip balms of a similar price point like the Nivea lip balms or the Chapstick lip balms. It does provides great hydration, but it just isn't as thick as I would personally like. This would be a great balm for people (and many boys I know) who want hydrated lips, but don't like the look or feel of a heavy balm. Most importantly, this doesn't leave your lips feeling even more dry after it has worn off (unlike the Nivea ones).

If you are the type of person who wants a thick luscious lip balm, this may not cut it for you. But if you prefer a 100% natural balm that gives you a "my lips but more hydrated feel", then you should try this.

I am mainly intrigued in this lip balm because of the list of scents that it comes in. I definitely have my eye on the Peppermint Lemongrass, the Spiced Chai and a few other scents.

Which scent would you pick?
