November Violet Box

December 2, 2013

I received my first ever Violet Box last friday, and I honestly think that this is the last Australian beauty subscription box that I haven't yet tried. For purposes of full disclosure, I want to make it clear that I was sent this box by Violet Box to review, but I have already signed up to receive the December box because I like to give a box a couple of tries before I decide whether or not to stay subscribed (also because I am only signed up to one other box and I am secretly hoping that these boxes will deliver great boxes for Christmas).

So this is a monthly box that retails for $22.95 per box, but you can buy deals where you get 3 months, 6 months or 12 months at a discounted rate. I also used the discount code VIOLETBOX10 for $10 off my first box... how can you fault $12.95 for your first box?! You can sign up here.

This is what the box looks like. It comes in a black box with the Violet Box logo and a purple ribbon and purple tissue paper. This also comes with an information card (which you can see below), and this is probably one of the only subscription boxes I have come agross that doesn't try to make a theme for each month... which is quite refreshing.

ModelCo Blush Cheek Powder in the shade Peach Belini 02 - full size: People who read my blog would know that I am a bit of a snob when it comes to ModelCo makeup. I think that they are way overpriced and that you can get much much much better products for half the price. Nevertheless, I also believe that most companies can make a decent blush so I was happy to be open minded while trying this blush. This is in a bright mid-toned coral-red shade that is quite shimmery. This is designed to be a sheer blush, so even though it looks very bold in the pan, it does apply more naturally. This is a great Summer shade, it looks nice on the cheeks, but the staying powder isn't the best. See swatches and close up of the blush below.

ModelCo Colour Box Eye Pencil in the shade Black 01- full size: Black eyeliners are a safe bet in beauty boxes, obviously because most people use them. This is a pigmented soft eyeliner that lasts quite well but it is very smudgy. If you have oily lids then you won't get along with this eyeliner as it doesn't really set all that well. This also comes with a sharpener in the lid. I have a few eyeliners that I love so I can't imagine reaching for this too often, but this would work well if you want a very smokey smudgy look.

Guess Night and Guess Girl - samples: This box contains a sachet sample of Guess Girl which is a nice sweet fragrance that is right up my alley, but the sachet is a very messy way to sample this. This box also comes with a small spray sample of Guess Night which is a mens fragrance. I haven't tried this, but I did give it to the boyfriend and he said it "smells alright".

Body Armour Face Cream - full size: I haven't yet tried this, but it is a thick face moisturiser that is designed to be used in sensitive skin after skincare treatments. I don't have sensitive skin, but I love trying new skincare and I have never heard of this brand before. This also retails for $35, so it makes this box excellent value!

Tailor Skincare - sample pack of 4: This is another product that I haven't heard of before. This is a brand from New Zealand that packaging mud masks in little one use packs. This mask is designed to unclog pores and exfoliate the skin, and in this months box we received 4 packs of this mask. I love the idea of these packs and I love the eco friendly packaging. I will hopefully try this later on today and insert a quick review of what I thought into this post.

So that's it! That's my first ever Violet Box! I was pretty happy with this months box, my favourite products are the moisturiser, the mask, and the blush... I think I would have been much happier with it if there wasn't two ModelCo products in there, but that's just my personal prejudices coming out.

What did you think of this months Violet Box?

  2. I like the look of the masks! I wonder if this means that ModelCo is done making the rounds - they've officially been in every box.

    1. My boyfriend drew it for me on the computer... and he did it so I can change up the colours whenever I want :)

  4. Really loved this months box and the blush you received is so pretty! I received the other shade, Amaretto Sunset. I know a lot of people aren't impressed with ModelCo popping up in a lot of boxes but I haven't tried much form the brand so im not too fussed. I agree that their prices are quite high though, I don't think I would personally purchase something of theirs unless it was a major stand out!
