December Violet Box
December 20, 2013
This is the December Violet box, and this is my second Violet box that I have received (see my first review here). This retails for $22.95 per month, but you can get $10 off your first box by using the discount code VIOLETBOX10. You can sign up here.
Besides the festive candy cane, there are three full sized products in this box and two samples. This also came with $30 gift card to Hello Fresh, which is a recipe/food delivery service.
Crabtree & Evelyn Pomegranate Argan & Grapeseed hand cream - full size: This is a full size hand cream that retails for $10. I love these sized hand creams for my hand bag, and I have tired Crabtree and Evelyn hand creams before and have really enjoyed using them. This has a really strong herbal scent, and I think this is supposed to smell like pomegranate oil (which is very different to fresh pomegranate). This isn't too greasy but it is quite thick and moisturising. Is it just me or does the label look like its upside down? Also the packaging is plastic but it looks like metal, I like this because I find the metal containers can crack and hand cream can come out... even though metal containers feel more luxurious.
Jelly Pong Pong Wide Awake Palette - full size: This is a really strange product. I have never used a Jelly Pong Pong product before, and probably isn't the best introduction to the brand. On a side note, I decided to look up the brands website and to learn a little bit more about the brand. This is what the founder says about the name:
"Jelly Pong Pong…a name which will always be strange to many, was born from the notion of wanting to invoke the eccentricity that is innate in all of us. The fascination & awe that we arouse simply by being different and perfectly unique."
...all I can think of when I hear the name Jelly Pong Pong is stinky jelly.
Aaaanyway, this is supposed to be a palette that contains a brightening cream, a concealer and eyebrow sculpting powders. I have only swatched these so I can't comment on how good the highlighting cream or the concealer is yet, but I have swatched them (see blow) and they do seem like they are quite low coverage. The thing that concerns me the most about this palette (besides that it is supposed to be worth $32) is the fact that the "brow sculpting" products are shimmery and really weird shades. I probably won't ever use these as brow products, but I will edit in what I think of the highlighting cream and concealer as soon as I use them.
Sweetpea & Fay Cosmetics pigment in UFO Sightings - Full size: This wasn't on the information card, instead it said that I was supposed to get a liquid lipstick. The thing that is a little annoying about this is that the Violet Box Facebook page showed a sneak peak of the liquid lipstick, and that was the motivating factor that made me sign up to this box.
Nevertheless I got this pigment which is a nice mauve shade that has a lot of sparkle to it. See swatch below.
Evo The Therapist Calming Shampoo and Conditioner - 50ml samples each: I have tried a few Evo samples and I really do like them. I just used these, and they made my hair feel really soft and lightweight. They also smell like salon hair products, which I also like. I can't help but giggle when I see the word therapist... does anyone else read it as the-rapist? (not that I condone raping).
So that's it! I am a little on the fence about what I think about this months Violet box. Should I stay subscribed for another month? Let me know what you think!
