Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circles Eraser in 160 Brightener

October 8, 2013

I have been super tired lately and I have been pretty obsessed with under eye concealer and highlighters. I know a lot of people rave about the Maybelline Instant Age Rewind Dark Circle Eraser concealers, so I decided to try the brightening version. This is similar to the light or medium concealers but it is more pink toned and it looks like it has less coverage (but I am not 100% sure).

I bought this from Chemist Warehouse when it was 50% off, but this retails for $18.95 full price.

I am a bit eh about the packaging. This is one of those tubes that you twist and the product comes out of the top. This comes out of the middle of a sponge and you then use the sponge to pat on the product. I know that come people think this is unhygienic, but I have read reviews that say this an anti-bacterial sponge. I am not to fussed about whether this is unhygienic, but what I don't like about the packaging is that I originally had a tube that had a cracked lid, and the twisting action didn't work because the lid wasn't on as tight as it needed to be. This pretty much means that if the lid has any breaks or defects, you can't actually use the product. Luckily I got the product swapped and this one works well, but I am still cautious.

To initially get the product out of the sponge, you will need to twist it like 20 times, but after it starts coming out, you only need around 2 twists to get the amount of product you need.

So the product itself is very light and pink toned, which is great for a highlighter because pink tones hide dark circles. If you had fair skin then you could use this as a concealer, but most people will need to use it in conjunction with another concealer. I personally like to use a small amount over my concealer and right under the inner corner of my eye to remove dark circles, and I find that if you use a tiny amount then it can look quite natural. Alternatively I apply this quite heavily under my foundation or concealer to act more as a colour corrector.

Overall I am pretty impressed with this concealer - it is a pretty thin formula, it is very comfortable to wear, it lasts quite a long time, and it is a perfect brightening/correcting shade for under your eyes.

I really like using this for my dark circles, but this isn't a replacement for a concealer. I will need to try one of the light or medium concealing products from this range next!

    1. I kept forgetting about it too! I do need to use it with another concealer though so it's not for people who like low fuss makeup :p

  3. I haven't tried these and am in dire need of something to cover my dark circles.. I think this would be far too light for me though as I need a more peachy/yellow toned corrector. Still hunting! :)

    1. This particular shade should be used with another concealer, but I hear the light and medium are great too

  6. I really like this concealer, one of my favourites actually. But I did have the same problem as you, the twist lid of mine got cracked and it's become quite difficult to twist. x
