Bellabox 2nd Birthday Box - October 2013

October 18, 2013

It's Bellabox's 2nd birthday and to celebrate, they have released a box in colaboration with I believe that is a fashion blog/website... I am not very savvy with the fashions.

Aaaanyway in case you didn't already know... Bellabox is a monthly subscription box that costs only $15 a month. If you want to join up, then join up here.

This will be my last box for a little while since I am pretty broke (doing a full time unpaid traineeship is starting to take its toll) and can't afford to stay subscribed to too many beauty boxes. To be completely honest, I would prefer to keep Bellabox and to give Lust Have It the flick, but I am half way through my LHI annual subscription, so Bellabox will have to go. I will no doubt subscribe for the odd box every now and then.

Onto the box...

So these are the products...

Beyonce Heat 2ml sample: I have a love hate relationship with celebrity fragrances. They often smell quite similar to each other, and they don't last long on the skin, but they are cheap and I often like the sweet scents. When you first put this on, it smells like a typical strong perfume scent that you might remember your mum or grandmother using. Once it settles into your skin it starts smelling softer, warmer, and more like vanilla and musk. I don't love this, but I am happy to wear it and it doesn't clash with my scent or give me a headache.

This also has a really weird dispenser, it isn't a spray bottle, instead it has 5 small holes and you tap it on your wrist and it distributes a small amount of perfume... handy!

Happy Skincare Cloud 9 Deep Cleansing Balm - 20ml sample: I have never really tried a cleansing balm, but I love using oils to remove my makeup, so I have wanted to try a cleansing balm for ages. To apply this you take a small amount and warm it between your fingers, massage it into your skin and then wipe/wash off. I love the concept, but I generally wash my face in the shower at night so I find this difficult to incorporate into my skincare routine. I really want to start getting in the habit of using cleansing balms because I know that they are better for your skin and they are quite hydrating etc. This one is really nice, it looks a little lumpy but the lumps seem to be particles of moisturiser that melt when they become warm. This also smells amazing when you rub it into your face, it has a herbal lemon oil type scent. I really like this and would consider buying a full size, but I will have to see over the next few days whether I can work this into my skincare routine... I still think this feels strange because it's like rubbing Vaseline onto you face.

L'Oreal Paris Shine Caresse Colour in Romy - full size: These came out a few months ago and I was quite reluctant to fork out the $24 for one. I am super happy to see these in here so I can finally give it a go. I heard that these are a dupe for the YSL glossy stains, but I haven't tried them so I can't compare :P This is a very sheer gloss (see swatches below) and it contains a small amount of shimmer. This does stain, but because the shade is very light and sheer it really only makes your lips looks slightly more pink toned than normal. It also does last quite a while, but it does start feeling sticky after an hour or so. I don't know if I am sold on this product, but I think I would prefer it if it was a darker/brighter shade as this looks quite similar to a tinted balm on the lips.

Stain after approx 2 minutes
Vaseline Ultimate 10 Essential - 25ml sample: This is supposedly the first body lotion that is designed to be anti-aging. I have never thought of needing to apply anti-aging body lotion, but I suppose it makes sense! I haven't tried this yet, but I like the idea. The full size is under $8, so if I like it I will totally buy the large size!

Alfaparf Semi Di Lino Reconstruction Shampoo and Mask: I tried these last night and I really like them! They smell really nice and make my hair feel really really smooth! I wish these were available in Priceline!

Maybelline Dream Pure BB Cream - 1ml sample: This is a very small piddly sample, but it's bonus so meh. I did get a full size of this in a past Bellabox, so I have tried this and I do like it for the oil control, but I find that the coverage is too light for my normal day to day foundation.

So that's it! What did you think of this months box?

  1. I love Bellabox. Haven't got mine yet but I'm excited to!

  2. I too have unsubbed from BB for now, and like you'd I'd rather have cancelled my LHI annual sub instead! I know in the future I won't be purchasing annual subs and getting too locked in. The Loreal product I got was much more pigmented than yours, and the colour was very long lasting and it was really nice on the lips, I didn't notice it getting sticky and after 3 hours and drinking I def still had a dark stain. Mine's in the colour Princess so if you're going to give them another chance check it out :)
And I agree about the perfume, at first it was like 'Poison', remember that? My mum had that, and then it just got sweeter and nicer. Might add it to a Christmas list..

  3. I wasn't entirely pleased with this month's Bellabox, especially with the products I received. I really wanted to try the L'oreal lip stain but unsurprisingly did not receive it. The shade you received looks lovely though!

  4. Not too impressed with BB this month either, I was thinking of joining because of all the hype put into their bday month, luckily i didn't. a pity the gloss doesn't stay put!

  5. It's good, with things I'm keen to try! I think my box is just like yours!

  6. I got the Loreal lippie in "Juliet" which is their dark orange based red shade - Wore it to work yesterday on an overtime shift, even after eating subway and drinking out of water bottles all day it lasted 12hours with a quick touch-up after lunch just to keep it glossy, and at bedtime my Garnier Sensitve makeup remover didn't get it all off, I had to use a lip-scrub. Clearly the dark pigments are boss. So impressed with it.

  7. I didn't get the Loreal shine caresse, I got two nail polishes and a chapstick :S Seems the boxes were pretty varied this month.

  8. Mine was different too,. I didn't get L'Oreal lisptick...instead I got L'Occitane sample and two small nail polishes plus Bioderma sample.
