September Wantable Box

September 29, 2013

If you hate reading about subscription box openings, then you will be hating my blog lately! Don't worry, I promise that this will be the last one for another month!

I was contacted by the people at Wantable and they asked me if I wanted to receive a free Wantable box... to which I thought "pffft, of course!" I did a video opening of it here if you want to see me talking about the products and also trying a couple of the products on.

Wantable is a makeup subscription box that is based in the US, and they also have an accessory box and an intimates box that are available monthly. The makeup box retails for $40 a month for a one off box, or $36 a month if you are subscribed. Since I live all the way in Australia, shipping is an additional $9. They say that each box is valued at over $80, and that's with US retail prices!

So sure, this box is more expensive than the other Australian subscription boxes on the market (although it isn't much more expensive than Her Fashion Box), but I think their service is fabulous and I am definitely thinking of letting my other annual subscriptions lapse and just sign up to this one. The reason why I say that is because they offer a service that I don't believe any Australian subscription box can afford to offer (even if they charged over $50 per month). I thought that I would also note that I received this on the same day as my September Bellabox, and earlier than my September Lust Have It box

You start by filling out an in depth quiz about which general makeup items you love, like or dislike. Then the quiz takes you through each type of makeup and asks specific details about each product. So take blush for example: it would ask you if you love, like or dislike blush and then it will ask you more specific question like what you think of natural blushes, bright blushes, powder blushes, cream blushes, stains and so forth and so forth. This builds your preference profile by saying which items you love, which items you like, and which items you dislike and then it also knows what specifically you love, like and dislike about each product.

It sounds like a long process, but its quite fun!

When you get your box, you will receive an invoice type piece of paper which shows each item they sent you, a little description of the product and also the price. It also shows you preferences in the top corner of the piece of paper. Here were my preferences:

You will see that the products I said I love are in pink, the products that I said I like are in blue, and it says that I will never receive the products that I listed as dislike (I said I dislike lip gloss, textured nail polish and a few other things). This means that they guarantee that you won't get products that you have said that you don't like! GENIUS!

They also have a returns policy if you don't like your box! Again, it's genius!

Keep this list in mind because you will notice that I have only received products on my love list! If of course you want to change your preferences, you can do that by signing into the website.

So these are the products I got in my box. You will also notice that I got 5 full sized makeup items and one sample... that's a good ratio of full size to samples!

Lise Watier Ombre Souffle Supreme: This is a sample of two cream shadows. I haven't tried these yet but the colours are quite nice, one is a peach and one is a green.

Cailyn Pressed Bronzing Powder in 01 Peach Pink: This isn't really a bronzer, it's definitely more of a light pink blush or a pink highlighter. It is very pretty nonetheless and I applied it in my opening video and I really like the effect it gave to the cheekbones. This reminds me of a pink version of The Balm's Mary-Lou Manizer as it is very buttery soft and pigmented. Very happy with this highlighter because I don't have a highlighter this shade in my collection, and the only reason why I listed highlighters as a "like" and not a "love" was because I have quite a few of them and I didn't want to get a highlighter that is too similar to one I already have. This retails in the US for $30. See a swatch later in this post.

Color Club In True Fashion Polish in Style Icon: This is the first of two nail polishes that I received in this box. This is a classic dark wine red shade and I think this is the type of shade that everyone needs in their collection. I can't wait to try it. This retails in the US for $8.

Besame Cosmetics Lipstick in Exotic Pink: Holy moly! I am infatuated with this lipstick! Not only does it come in a cute little bag and pretty gold packaging that is supposed to be reminiscent of the 1940's old Hollywood glamour, but the formula is to die for! This is super pigmented, it lasts hours and hours, it has a semi-matte finish but doesn't try out my lips, and the colour is gorgeous. This is my favourite lipstick of the moment! The only thing I don't like is the weird square shape of the actual lipstick, but I can deal with that. This retails for $22 in the US and I must track more of these down! See a swatch later in the post, and watch the video to see it on my lips.

Michael Marcus Brow Pencil in Brunette: I listed eyebrow products as a love because I can't leave home without doing my eyebrows. This is a smooth and easy to apply pencil, but it isn't super pigmented which allows you to apply it lightly for a more natural eyebrow look. I usually use powder for my brows, but I am liking this pencil. I have swatched this below, and this retails for $24.

l - r: Cailin Pressed Bronzing Powder, Besame Cosmetics Lipstick, Michael Marcus Brow Pencil

Laqa & Co Nail Polish in Greedy Guts: I have heard of this brand but have never tried it. I love this shade! It is a bright pink based red and I can imagine getting a lot of wear out of this in the warmer weather. Love it! This retails for $11 in the US.

So that's my box! Overall I received some great products! I adore the lipstick, I love the highlighter, and I can't wait to wear the nail polishes because I love both shades. Adding up the retail prices of these items, this box is worth $95! And I have no doubt that if you were to buy similar products in Australia you will be paying a lot more than $95!

This is clearly a great value box, and if you are sick of the Australian subscription boxes that always give you hand cream samples and shampoo sachets that you don't want, then this may be a great option for you. The fact that they listen to your preferences really impresses me and it's the think that makes me want to sign up!

  1. This is such a good box. I haven't tried Wantable yet.

I love that so much effort goes into getting the right products for you. I wish more Australian boxes were like this. Some of the boxes that do profiles do it SOOO badly. The last Bellabox I got they sent me a BB cream for medium to dark skin.... my skin is pale, which is indicated on my profile. I complained and they said they tried it out on their pale staff and it worked for them. Ummm it was terracotta on my skin. Even Snookie would say I looked orange!!

  4. This is a great box :) I'm regretting the annual sub I purchased for one Aussie box company, as I would really like to cancel cause I am just getting so many samples now {yes, I know that is the whole point lol} but this box is awesome! So many full sized products tailored individually! Look out Wantable.. you'll be getting a new customer in the new year! :)
