Lush Melbourne Blogger Event

September 11, 2013

I was lucky enough to be invited to the Lush Blogger Event in Melbourne last night. Even though I have had my blog for over a year, this was the first blogger event that I have been invited to!

The night started with a talk about the ethics behind the Lush brand and how they make all of their products in house, how they ensure that none of the ingredients come from places that test on animals, and how they try to sell as many products "naked" (without packaging) to reduce waste. We also learnt about the contribution Lush makes to charities and how they support farmers that grow products in a sustainable way.

My take home message is that whenever I buy a Lush product, I will feel like my money is being used to help the world!

We were then given a goodie bag filled with 6 of Lush's most popular products, and we were told a bit about each product and how to use them (see the products I got at the end of the post).

After the speeches there were stations where we could test out products, get treatments done, skin consultations, facials etc. We were also given a sheet where we could list three additional products that we wanted to try, and then we got to take those products home too!

One of the most exciting parts of the night was when they showed us how to make the Angel's On Bare Skin Cleanser... and yes, we also got to take it home.

And of course, one of the best parts of the night was meeting some lovely Melbourne beauty bloggers!

Onto the products that Lush were lovely enough to give me... and I was not expecting this at all so I was super excited to get home and try out all of these products (I may do a Lush haul video very soon). I have bought a lot of Lush products in the past but they have mainly been soaps, body washes and bath bombs, so I was really excited to try their top selling products and also some skincare that I have never used before.

The products that everyone received were:

Ro's Argan Body Conditioner: I tried this is the shower last night and I am in love with it! This smells amazing, almost like a rose custard scent, and it contains six conditioning butters. You apply this on your body after you have washed with soap/bodywash and then you rinse it off, and it keeps your skin feeling hydrated so you don't need to use a body moisturiser after you get out of the shower. So far, this is my favourite product that I have tried.

Ultrabland Facial Cleanser: I wish I knew of this earlier because it is right up my alley! This is a thick almond oil based cleanser that you apply to dry skin, and it helps melt away makeup and lift and dissolve dirt. You can then wash it off or use a cotton pad with a toner to wipe away the excess. I used this to remove my makeup today after work and it works quite well.

Bubblegum Lip Scrub: I have the Popcorn version of this, so I am supporter of these lip scrubs. These lip scubs contain castor sugar and jojoba oil, and all you do is get some on your finger, rub it on your lips and then lick it off. The sugar rubs off any dry skin, and the oil helps your lips feel soft. This Bubblegum one smells like the Snow Fairy shower gel.

Honey I Washed The Kids Soap: Out of all of the Lush soaps this is my favourite scent... it smells like a soft honey caramel scent, and I can never get sick of smelling this. This also contains honey and bees wax so it is supposed to help soothe inflamed skin and relieve problems like eczema.

Sex Bomb Bath Ballistic: I have used a few Lush bath bombs, but I haven't used this one before. This is supposed to smell like jasmine and ylang ylang. I can't wait to try this!

Angels on Bare Skin Facial Cleanser: This is a clay cleaner that contains ground almonds which helps draw out impurities in the skin. This has quite a firm texture and you are supposed to take a small amount, mix it with water in your hand, and then cleanse your face. This has a lavender/herbal scent to it.

Dream Cream Hand and Body Lotion: This is a light lotion that has a soft chamomile, rose, tea tree and lavender scent to it. This is supposed to be perfect for dry irritated skin.

Onto the additional products that I selected were:

Skin's Shangri La Facial Moisturiser: I decided to choose a moisturiser, because I haven't tried a Lush face moisturiser before. I was asking a lady about what would make a good night moisturiser, because even though I have oily skin I like to use heavy moisturisers at night. She recommended Skin's Shangri La. This has a strong scent that I can't put my finger on, it might be the wheatgrass and seaweed in it. I have only used this once, but it is nice and thick and sinks into my skin really nicely.

Ocean Salt Facial Scrub: I chose this because it is my sisters favourite Lush product (and she has tried them all!). This is like a cream cleanser that contains a lot of salt chunks that really exfoliate your skin. I adore the grapefruit scent of this.

American Cream Double Strength Conditioner: I decided to try this because Kate Flint recommended it in one of her most recent YouTube videos, and this has the most delicious warm vanilla scent. I tried this last night, and it feels quite waxy when you apply it, but it does make my hair feel really smooth and soft. If you have limp hair this might weigh your hair down, but if you have frizzy/damaged hair then you would probably love this.

So that's it! I had a great night - I now know much more about Lush as a company and their products,  I got to try new things and meet new people, and I also got to take home some crazy awesome products to try and to no doubt review! Thanks so much to Lush for putting this on, I am so impressed with how well they respect the blogging community, it's really lovely hearing that such a large company genuinely appreciates the little people :)

Yay for Lush!

  1. Awesome post! You guys got so many awesome products to try out! I love so many of them! I have the Ocean Salt Facial Scrub on my list (I used to use Rub, Rub, Rub and it was awesome!) The best part about the Sex Bomb ballistic is that it comes with a little paper rose that floats around the tub. Too cute!
