August 2013 Favourites

September 2, 2013

YAY it's finally Spring time! I am so over the cold weather, so I can't wait to start wearing shorts and singlets again, and spending evenings in the park.

It's favourites time and I have been loving some new beauty products this month.

La Roche-Posay Effaclar Duo: I thought I should mention this first because I have been loving it for months but I keep forgetting to put it into my favourites! This is a thin light weight moisturiser that helps fight blemishes. La Roche-Posay is a skincare brand that is designed to be a more medicated range of skincare, compared to most normal skincare brands. I find that this has helped keep my skin spot free for the past few months, and it is such an easy product to use. I use this as my day time moisturiser and if I am having a bad skin day, I use this at night too. You can buy these from Priceline.

Estee Lauder Perfectionist [CP+]: This is the serum that I started using this month. I got this 50ml bottle from the Estee Lauder corporate store around a year ago, and it only cost $15! I'm not sure about the normal price of the 50ml bottle (which I can't find on the Estee Lauder website), but the 30ml size costs a whopping $115! I have really been enjoying using this because it is a serum that is light weight, and sinks instantly into my skin, making my skin feel really smooth. I wouldn't fork out the $115 for this (not until I am a bit older anyway), but I am really enjoying it while I have it.

OPI Road House Blues: I have found my all time favourite nail polish! Not only do I love this navy blue shade, that is verging on black but still looks blue on the nails, but it has the most amazing formula! One swipe and you have a opaque, glossy and streak free finish. Love it! I have worn this at least three times in August!

Cellilux Glacial Mineral Gel: I tried a sample of this mask earlier in August and I bought it within a day or two because I loved it so much. It is a clay drying mask that sucks out all of the gross oils out of your skin. See the instagram photo below of what the mask looks like once it has dried and has started to suck the muck out of my pores. I was so impressed with it that I bought two tubs! These aren't cheap ($69) but it is the only mask that I want to use at the moment. I bought them partly with my Bellabox points from the Bellabox shop.

Illamasqua Powder Blusher in Lover: I am such a fan of Illamasqua blushes, they are pigmented (but not too pigmented), are finely milled, and are just so nice to wear. My favourite blush of all time is Illamasqua's Naked Rose which is a dusky pink, but I decided to order Lover when it was on sale. Lover is a matte peach shade and is perfect for the up coming warmer weather. This gives a nice natural peach flush to the cheeks. See the swatch at the end of this post.

Sally Hansen Strengthening Nail Polish Remover with Acetone: This is a random favourite. For the past couple of years I have been using whichever nail polish remover was the cheapest. I bought this nail polish remover whilst Chemist Warehouse was having a 50% off sale, and this ended up being $3ish (which is what I usually spend on nail polish remover). Man, this stuff is good! I never thought there would be much difference in nail polish removers, but I used to have to rub the cotton pad with cheap nail polish remover on my nail maybe 4-5 times to remove the polish, but with this nail polish remover, I only need to rub it once or twice! So much better! I have seen the light!

The Balm Shady Lady Palette Vol 2: I got this palette as a free gift with purchase at David Jones, and even though some of the shades are colours that I won't reach for often (such as the blue and green), I have found myself reaching for this palette quite often this month. Most of the shades have a great pigmented buttery smooth formula, with the exception of the two darkest shades. See my full review with swatches here.

The Balm Mary-Lou Manizer: To qualify for the Shady Lady gift with purchase, you had to spend over $28 on The Balm products, and I ended up splurging and buying the Mary-Lou Manizer highlighter. This is a raved about highlighter and I had it on my wish list for a long time, so this was a great opportunity to buy it. If I have been wearing a highlighter this month, this has been the one I have been wearing. It is SUPER pigmented, so it's not a natural subtle highlighter, but if you a fine with a bold highlighted look then this is for you! It's not my favourite highlighter of all time, because it is too bold... but I have been loving wearing it this month. See my full review with swatches here, there is also a swatch of this at the end of this post.

OCC Skin Conceal in Y1: I bought this as soon as I found out that Lipstick Republic were stocking them, and luckily I took a bit of a gamble with the shade and it paid off! I love this concealer, it is really pigmented, it has great coverage, and it is quite thin and doesn't feel too cakey. This contains 8g of product and costs $20 so it's also great value. Since this is a firmer concealer, I wear this under my eyes and also to cover spots. I love it!

So those are my favourites for August! I can't wait to start getting into more fun Spring makeup, so I am curious about what I will be loving in September!

I also did a video about my favourites, which you can see below:
