Budget Rave: Girlz Only Dry Shampoo for Dark and Deep Brown Hair

July 21, 2013

Ok, call me a snob, but I have resisted getting a Girlz Only dry shampoo for months and months just because a full size can costs $2 from Target - and I was convinced that the quality would be crap. I decided to give it a go and fork out the whole $2 when I saw that they now have a version for dark brown hair. I must say, this stuff is pretty damn good! It's not the greatest dry shampoo in the world, but it does the job and it doesn't deposit a lot of white powder that leaves your hair with a grey tint. I also like the scent! It smells a lot less aerosol scented than Batiste does.

I haven't yet used the Batiste dry shampoo for medium brown hair (which costs $12.99), but I have used many bottles of the uncoloured Batiste dry shampoos (which cost $9.99). I decided to do a bit of a comparison with the uncoloured Batiste dry shampoo that I currently have under my sink.

l-r: Girlz Only Dark and Deep Brown Dry Shampoo, Batiste Dry Shampoo

To "swatch" these, I just sprayed some of the product onto my arm. You can see that the Girlz Only dry shampoo does have a brown hint to it, but if you apply too much then it will have a very slight white cast. You will also see that it isn't as powdery or dry as the Batiste dry shampoo.

I applied a concentrated amount into my hair so you can see what each of these products look like in the hair (without brushing it out). You can see that the Batiste dry shampoo deposits a lot of white powder, whereas the Girlz Only dry shampoo doesn't look as white or as powdery.

Even though the Girlz Only one doesn't deposit as much product as the Batiste one, I really don't have a problem with this. In my opinion the Batiste one deposits too much powder and it can often be too hard to brush it out. The Girlz Only dry shampoo does help to absorb oil and adds a bit of extra volume, without being too high maintenance. I also find that if I apply a small amount on my roots, I don't even have to brush it out... you really can't notice that it's there, which is perfect for when you are in a rush.

I do have to mention that if you have really greasy hair, then this doesn't work as well as Batiste, but if you are only using this as a quick refresher, then this is really good!

Overall, I will stock up on this Girlz Only Dry Shampoo for Dark and Deep Brown Hair, because it is super cheap (only $2!!!), it does the job, and it is a much quicker and low maintenance dry shampoo than other products on the market. Since I like this product so much, I am even willing to overlook the fact that they spell Girls with a "z".

    1. How good is it! And it makes me wonder how much dry shampoo costs to make if they can sell it for $2. Why are we spending $10+ on other brands?!?

This product is worth checking out; I do have have dark brown - black hair and the Batiste shampoos render my hair grey.
I do admit I found the concluding remark to be quite hilarious! :)

  7. does anyone in Victoria Australia know if Girlz only is still sold anywhere? I usually stock up 3 - 4 x year and i need to restock, but can't find it in Big W, K-mart or Target. Yet to check out Priceline but I don't hold out much hope. I'm really annoyed as I use this product almost every day and I saved up to buy my 20 can stock up and I can't fine it anywhere in Geelong Victoria!! I'm prepared to drive to Melbourne or Ballarat or anywhere in a 2 hour radius to buy it, please help.
