Polka dot nail look using Natio Nail Colour in Valentine

June 20, 2013

I decided to try something a little whacky today. I love polka dot nails so I decided to use the Natio nail polish that I got in the June Bellabox to create a red and white nail look. I get my polka dot effect by using the Konad m79 plate (see my post about how nail stamping works), which is by far my most used Konad pattern. To make this a little more interesting, I decided to also add a bit of sparkle, and I  used the jewels from the Sportsgirl nail art pen to create a feature nail (see my post of this pen here). It didn't quite turn out as good as I had hoped, but from afar it looks pretty cool!

So to start off with, I will do a quick mini review of the Natio nail polish. This is an Australian brand, and this nail polish costs $9.95. This is in the shade Valentine, which is a sheer red shade that gives an almost "jelly" look to the nails. Since it isn't a white based opaque nail polish, then you do need two coats of this to build up the red shade, but this is easy to apply and doesn't apply streaky. What I love about this sheer red colour, is that it applies quite bright and vibrant, and would be a great red shade to wear in warmer weather.

Two coats of Natio Valentine

To create my nail look you mainly just need the products above. I also used a base coat, a top coat, and I used tweezers to apply the jewels. In the above photo I just showed what Konad plate I used for the design, but if you want to use the plate you will also need the stamper tool (der).... or you can just use a dotting tool.

To begin with you need to apply two coats of the red polish (over a base coat is preferred). I then used my Konad stamping tools to dot on the white pattern. If you don't have nail stamping tools or this particular plate, then you can use a dotting tool/toothpick dipped in white nail polish, but this stamping way is a bit quicker and gives a more even design. I used the Konad white nail polish because you need a very pigmented polish for stamping. Lastly I used the Sportsgirl nail art pen to squeeze a small amount of nail polish on each of the stamped dots on my feature nail (I did around 4 dots at a time), and with my tweezers I picked up a jewel and placed it on the dot. Lastly I applied a top coat to help keep it all in place.
