My new blush... the Saucebox Oh La-La Eyeshadow - swatches and review

June 24, 2013

A couple of weeks ago I ordered a Saucebox single eyeshadow from Lipstick Republic. These retail for $8 but these are on sale from Lipstick Republic for $6 (also use the discount code RepublicVIBs for a further 10% off your order).  I love Saucebox eyeshadows (see my Creme de la Creme palette review here, and my Midnight Blossoms palette review here), and I thought it might be interesting trying to use one of their bright pink single shadows as a blush, because if it works well, then it would be really affordable way to buy a new blush.

I ended up ordering the Oh La-La shadow, which is their brightest pink shadow and it is supposed to be an affordable dupe for the Sugarpill Dollypop eyeshadow. Also Saucebox is vegan and cruelty free... in fact, Lipstick Republic only sell cruelty free products. I decided to take a risk on their brightest pink shadow because one of my all time favourite blushes is Stila Custom Color Blush in Pink, which is also a super bright shade. Note to self, review the Stila Custom Color Blush soon!

The container is a nice compact cardboard circular box. These shadows are actually really large, so it can easily be used as a blush. Normal eyeshadows contain around 1.5g or product, but these eyeshadows from Saucebox contain 4.9g of product. Below is an old photo from my Creme de la Creme palette review, and this is the size comparison with a MAC shadow.

The shadow is a very pigmented bright blue based pink. It is very smooth, super super pigmented, and very long lasting. The above photo is one swipe of the shadow!

Oh La-La swatch
Oh La-La light application with a blush brush

The first swatch photo above shows the boldness of the colour as an eyeshadow (it is intense!), and the second photo shows how it can be applied as a blush. I won't be using this as an eyeshadow, so I will only talk about using this as a blush. When I apply it as a blush, I very lightly tap my blush brush into the shadow, and then I blend it onto my cheek. You can also tap it on your hand first to remove some of the product, if you are worried about applying too much product to your cheeks. Since this product is so pigmented, it lasts longer than most other blushes, and since you need the tiniest amount, this eyeshadow will last me years and years.

I know this shade looks really crazy and won't be for everyone, but I love these bright blue based pink blushes for winter, so I am really glad I took the risk about tried out this eyeshadow as a blush. Also, I know there are heaps of people that love crazy bold eyeshadow colours, if you do, then I really recommend trying out Saucebox, because their shadows are amazing quality and they are really affordable!

Check out Saucebox at Lipstick Republic, or of course at the Saucebox website.

  4. Wow--that's beautiful. I have to point out, though, that not all Saucebox products are vegan. The Midnight Blossoms palette, for example, has carmine listed as a possible ingredient. Yep yep!

  7. This blush is quite scary in the pan, but it looks great blended. How easy is it to blend?
