Lime Crime Velvetine in Suedeberry - review and swatches

June 18, 2013

I have a pile of products to review, and this Velvetines by Lime Crime was on the top of my list. I bought this from Lipstick Republic the other week, this costs $21 and it comes in Suedeberry (the one I have) or Red Velvet (a darker red). If you visit Lipstick Republic by the 23rd of June, you can get 20% off your order with the code MIDYEAR20. If you miss out on that sale, use the code RepublicVIBs for 10% off your order at any time. You can also buy this from the Lime Crime website.

I ordered a pink SauceBox eyeshadow (that I will be using as a blush - I will do a review of this soon!) and the Velvetine, and since Lipstick Republic are now stocking the brand Youngblood, Michelle from Lipstick Republic added in some great Youngblood samples and an eyeshadow palette. I will be reviewing these very soon too!

Onto the Velvetine!

Like all of Lime Crimes packaging, this packaging is so cute! This is also a vegan and cruelty free product.

The handle has the same design as on the box, and the tube that contains the product is make of a frosted glass. The frosted glass is a nice little addition, as this is a matte lip product. The applicator is a doe foot applicator, and even though this applies easily, I personally like to apply this with the doe foot applicator and then use a lip brush to make sure that this is applied evenly.

Lime Crime Velvetine in Suedeberry

Essentially this is a very thin, wet, pigmented liquid lipstick that sets matte. This Suedeberry shade is a vibrant orange toned red, but if you prefer a darker more classic red then you may want to try the Red Velvet shade. This is a very wet product, so you have a few minutes to play with this before it drys and sets. I find this works the best when you apply a very thin coat, because it sets quicker, is less likely to smudge, and it is super pigmented so you don't really need a thick coat. This surprisingly does glide over dry patches, and doesn't cling to dry patches on your lips, I didn't even exfoliate my lips before applying this for the swatches. As this is a matte product, this does feel quite dry on your lip, but it doesn't dry out your lips - so once you get used to the dry matte feel, then you'll be fine! Once this sets, this lasts AGES! I wore this for easily three hours yesterday without eating, and it barely moved (and then I had to take it off for work). I read that this is also waterproof, which is pretty crazy! The only thing that I don't like about this product (besides that a completely matte product feels a little strange) is the scent. This does have a very sweet caramel/vanilla type scent, which I usually love, but for some reason this is a miss for me... it is tolerable though.

I love this product, it looks stunning and it lasts ages. If you can get over the initial icky feeling of having completely matte lips, then you will love this too! I am very tempted to buy the Red Velvet shade now!
