April Her Fasion Box - Classic box

April 17, 2013

This is the second ever Her Fashion Box, and sadly it will be the last that I will receive. This costs $39.95 per month (approx $480 for a year) and it just isn't worth it! I did a first impressions video (being uploaded as we speak!) which explains why I wasn't impressed, and I will go through each item in this post.

So this box contains beauty products and an accessory. The accessory varies depending on which box you choose to subscribe to (I subscribed to the classic box). The box also comes with a Her Fashion Magazine which goes through each item in the box.

Accessory: The accessory this month is a cuff, mine is just a plain silver looking one, and you can see what the trendy and the feminine cuffs are below. This is a Her Fashion Box brand cuff, and the magazine states that this costs $39.95! Can anyone day rip off? I wouldn't even pay $2 for this at Diva Accessories, it is a thin tinny cheap bangle, and it is glaringly obvious that they have inflated the cost just to justify the price of the box. I am not impressed!

At least the beauty products are all known brands and are all full sized items.

Bondi Sands Sel Tanning Foam in Light/Medium: I have never heard of this brand, but the magazine claims that this costs $19.95. I am happy to give this a go, but I winter is coming up and I will probably save this for next summer.

Bondi Sands Reuseable Self Tanning Mitt: I don't have a tanning mitt, so this will come in handy. It is valued at $9.95.

Schick Hydro Silk Razor: This is pretty handy, and even though I got one of these free with a beautybay.com order, it is a very usable product. I will probably give this to my sister. This is valued at $10.

Model Co Black Eyeliner: The magazine claims that this is worth $26, which is laughable! It is comparable to a Designer Brands eyeliner ($4.99) or a MUA Cosmetics eyeliner (£1/$1.50). This is a pigmented and soft liner, but it is sooo smudgy and just doesn't stay put. Definitely overpriced! Strangely enough, the Model Co website says that this costs $12.95, not $26! Not impressed!

Model Co Lip Duo Lipstick and Shine Ultra Lip Gloss: This is a duo lip product that has a lipstick on one end and a lip gloss on the other, I got this in a nude shade (lipstick in Nude and Watermelon lipgloss). This is also over priced at $24. The gloss is sticky, the lipstick is just meh and the lipstick has already broken at the base, and is now unusable. In addition to this, the container has a mirror on it, but the mirror is on the handle of the lip gloss/lipstick so you cant actually look at it when applying the product... just stupid!

Overall, the only products that are worth the money are the tanning products and the razor (which I already have one of). So pretty much, in my opinion this box is only worth the $40 that the tanning products and the razor retail at. The rest of the items are way over priced and are going straight in my bin! I will unsubscribe and from now on I will invest my $39.95 each month on a nice MAC or Illamasqua product.

Update: I got an email from a follower who informed me that she saw this Model Co pack which contains the lip product and the eyeliner plus other makeup for $12.50! Now, do you really believe that the lip product is worth $24 and the eyeliner $26?

So, do I think this box is with $39.95? Fuck no!

On a lighter note, check out my 500 followers giveaway for a chance to win an Urban Decay Naked Basics palette, some Real Techniques brushes and a Beautyblender!

  1. Thanks for the review! I was considering joining Her Fashion Box (it sounds a lot like PopSugar in the US) but now I'm definitely not going to. Sorry to hear it didn't work out for you :(

  2. Hi Kat,

Boy am I glad that I decided not to get a second box. I am of South-East Asian decent, so tanning products are pretty much useless to me (given that I am already quite "tan"). I was hoping that these boxes would be be more customisable, given the price tag... but I guess not. Also, $40 for that cuff thingy? Hmmmmm....

    Purdy box, though. :)

    Thanks for the review!

  3. Wow yeah, don't think it's worth it. Sorry to hear you're not impressed!
I really don't like how they say everything is worth more than they actually are, do they think the customers are stupid? Lol.

    1. Yeah I know, especially since a lot of their customers would be beauty bloggers

  4. I am unsubscribing too! Really disappointed. And such a weird bunch of products to receive going into winter!

  5. I would have been disappointed with this box if I had paid the $15 that the other beauty boxes charged! The jewellery in the first 2 boxes both seem on par with the jewellery you can get in Lovisa and Diva for less than $20, and the rest of the products really don't make it worth it. For $40 you would expect they'd be able to tailor it a little more than the 3 different jewellery pieces they put in.

    1. Agree! I would consider staying subscribed if it were $15... but probably not, because the other boxes on the market are so much better.

  7. I am so glad that I didn't sign up for this box, hopefully it gets better because from what I've seen so far, not worth it at all. I'd rather pay less for Bella or Lust Have It and get smaller samples and no accessory to be honest.

Hoping that it gets better though!

  8. My thoughts about the bangle is exactly the same - it looks cheap, plain and it falls off my wrist. I didn't realise the mirror and lipgloss thing as I haven't tested it out yet but your video made me laugh hahaha. The eyeliner looks disappointing and I don't use fake tan so this box is somewhat completely useless to me. Waste of $40.

  10. I got this box too, not impressed. It's rubbish! Emailed her fashion box to unsubscribe last week and I'm glad I did. Agree with everything you've said. Won't get use out of any of these products. Would use the tan but I doubt it'll manage to survive taking up cupboard space until next summer. Much prefer my $15 bellabox!

  12. So sorry to hear that this box is so disappointing, but I'm so glad that I didn't subscribe to Her Fashion Box in the first place!
The products actually look awful, if I did receive this box the only thing I would actually use is the razor. I would toss everything else. This is definitely not worth the $40 - I wouldn't even pay $15 (like other subscription boxes) for it!

  13. I Liked the box as I will use all the items... I think the bangle is overpriced though. I also got a 30ml bottle of Redken Argan Oil. So because I would use and liked everything then I thought it was well worth my $39. I am however pissed with BB and have unsubscribed after another shit box :) love your reviews.

  14. LOL appreciate the honesty and would mirror your thoughts, except I have no interest in tanning stuff, so pretty much I would be weeping for the loss of $40 if I ever forked out for one of these :p

  15. Wow they are totally ripping members off by slapping unjustified retail prices to increase the value of their box. The first box was really good but this month is such a downfall :/

  16. I love your honesty here Kat! Sounds like a rip off to me!
