April 2013 Favourites and Fails!

April 30, 2013

Time for April favourites (and fails)... I can't wait for May, not only is it my birthday in May,  but I am going to Japan! So I'll start with my favouites, and then I will go onto my fails, because sadly I have a few fails this month.

Lush Twilight Shower Gel: *Drools* this shower gel smells so nice! I hate lavender, and lavender is supposedly the primary scent... but I find that this is smells more of warm cinammon biscuits with a background scent of lavender. This is the perfect warm scent for cold weather. This is limited edition and is released around Chistmas time, but this has taken over from Snow Fairy as being my favourite Lush shower gel.

Sportsgirl Nail It! Nail Polishes in Toffee Apple and Goddess: Good old Sportsgirl, they always bring out great shades of nail polish! I am loving the bright emerald green shade of Toffee Apple for a pop of colour, and I am also loving Goddess for a sparkly metallic nail. This range of nail polish isn't the greatest for wear time (although Goddess lasts pretty well), but if you wear a top coat over it then they last 4ish days with no issue. See full reviews of these here and here

Sally Hansen Mega Shine Top Coat: I thought I would have to mention this top coat, as it is the top coat that I use to make the Sportsgirl polishes last. Without this top coat, nail polishes in general tend to chip on me in less than 24 hours, but with this top coat they last days. I bought this in January, and since using it it has changed my nail polish routine... no more hideous chipped polish! I love this stuff, and I even have a back up.

Lime Crime lipstick in Countessa Flourescent: I love this shade, and if you love a bright lip then you will love this too! It is a bright blue based pink and it is so easy to apply and wear - it applies smoothly and is opaque on one swipe. This also stains so it helps with the wear time. I have been wearing this whenever I have gone out this month and I pretty much only need to reapply it once during the night. You can buy this from at Lipstick Republic (use the code RepublicVIBs for 10% off your order) or Lime Crime. See full review and swatched here.

Innoxa lipstick in Strawberry: This is a really cheap lipstick that you can get from Priceline, I think it costs under $15, but you can often get them on sale for under $10. I don't know if this shade is available anymore, but it is a great pink toned nude... it looks quite dark in the swatch, but it is a my lips but perfect shade. It is also really creamy and highly pigmented.

Maybelline Expert Ware Eyeshadow Duo in 70 Brown Tones: This is an eyeshadow duo that I have had for ages and never wore because the colour pay off is pretty bad. I decided to try this on my eyebrows, and I love it. Not only is the darker brown a perfect shade for my eyebrows, but the light shade is great for mixing or blending out the brows for a subtle "ombre" eye brow effect. I don't think you can buy these anymore, but I might search for it on ebay, because I am sure I will want a backup!

Illamasqua Eye Shadow in Tango: This is my most loved eyeshadow at the moment, and I honesty have been wearing it pretty much every day since buying it. It is a warmer version of a bronze, but isn't as orange as a copper - its more of a red toned bronze. I have been embracing Autumn shades for my makeup recently (which is rare for me), and this works perfectly for Autumn looks. I also get heaps of compliments when I wear this shade. See full review and swatches here.

Maybelline Color Tattoo in Pomegranate Punk: When Color Tattoos came out, I went a bit nuts and bought a bunch of them... but I only really wore the Bad to the Bronze shade. Because I have been loving Autumn shades, I have been using this purple/red shade as a base, and it works really well. Finally I am getting use out of this shade!

Pomegranate Punk, Tango, Countessa Flourescent, Strawberry

Random Favourites time...

MOR Cucumber and Casaba candle: I haven't burnt this yet, but I keep it on my bedside table and it makes my bedroom smell really nice and fresh and clean. Man I love this candle!

Game Of Thrones Season 3: I am so glad Game Of Thrones is back! I have read the first 4 books, and book 3 is by far my favourite - this will be an epic season! If I had to sum up this season, I would call it three weddings and a lot of funerals! Love it!

Iron Man 3: I saw this movie last Saturday night, and I really did enjoy it. I think it was one of the most entertaining movies that I have seen all year... besides West Of Memphis which is amazing! I love Tony Stark, he kicks arse in this movie!

Time for the fails...

Her Fashion Box: Lets start with the biggest fail... It is the subscription box Her Fashion Box! This was such a rip off of a box, and I actually find it quite offensive. This is the most expensive box on the market ($39.95 a month), and the value is appalling. They give you a really cheap accessory and claim that it costs $39.95, where in reality it seems like some cheap junk jewelry that you would get from Diva Accessories for $1, and then they give you full size makeup that they overprice. In my opinion this is a really poor way of overvaluing your box! I would have been disappointed with this box even if I paid the $15 that other subscription boxes charge! See my review of this box here, and watch my opening video below:

Skindinavia No More Shine Makeup Finishing Spray - Matte Hold On Oily Skin: I had such high hopes for this product as I have combination oily skin, and the only makeup problem I have is makeup slippage and oily t-zone. This claims to fix both of those problems, and I was so excited to give it a go. I have been wearing this to work for the past 4-5 days, because work is where I tend to work flat out for 8 hours and never have a chance to touch up my makeup, and as an experiment I have been applying this spray to only the right side of my face. When I get home I have been making sure to see if there is any difference between the left and the right side of my face... and there hasn't been. I have tried this with heavy foundation (with and without a primer) and also a bb cream (with and without a primer)... and this finishing spray has not helped my skin one single bit - if anything, the side with the spray may even look worse! I am really upset that I wasted my money on this. Keep your eyes out for a disappointing products post featuring this spray!

Revlon Kissable Balm Stains: Ok, I love these lip products, but I thought I would add them as a "packaging fail" product because the lid of my Honey one came of in my bag and caused a lot of chaos. I originally thought that I was just unlucky, but it happened when I was out with a friend, and she told me that hers did the same thing a few days before! I decided that the lids are just far too loose and can easy fall off. So just a warning, these are great products but keep them in a secure makeup bag if you want to keep them in your handbag.

Thats it for my favourites and fails. Remember to check out my 500 followers giveaway because it only has a few days left!

    1. Thanks SO much! You won't believe how helpful that is! I am very excited about buying makeup in Japan :)

  5. I'm so glad I found your blog through Lena at sleepandwater! I completely agree about the Revlon JBKBS lids coming off- the lids on mine are cracking and come loose so easily I can't just throw them in my bag anymore- such a pity! I've never tried Innoxa lipsticks but that one looks so pretty! Have fun in Japan! Get stuck into Hada Labo skincare- their Hyaluronic Acid range is legendary!

  6. Love your blog! Very good work! Take a look at mine and be a member too if you like it! Thank you!
