The 1st Her Fashion Box - March Box

March 13, 2013

I finally got the first Her Fashion Box in the mail today, and I decided to do something that I haven't ever done before... I decided to make an unboxing video. Maaan, making videos is a pain in the bum! Anyway so the video is below, but I also decided to write a post on this box, because I don't really like it when people do a video and then all they do is link the video to the blog post and that's it. So feel free to watch the video, to read the post, or both... and let me know if you like the addition of occasional videos!

On to the written review!

I thought I would just mention some quick details about this box. It is a monthly subscription box that contains both fashion and beauty items. It is $39.95 per month, but the first box was $24.95. There are three boxes to choose from when you sign up, you can choose between classic, trendy, and feminine... I chose classic.

So this is what I got in my box:

The two fashion items were a necklace and a hair accessory. I was happy with the necklace, you can see that it is a black and gold almost tribal type necklace, but I wasn't so happy with a hair accessory since I don't have much hair. Out of the three hair accessories that were available, I do like the one I got the most, but I just cant wear it. When you sign up, you fill out a survey about which items you want and which ones you want, and I am pretty sure I said that I didn't want any hair things... nevermind, if I had long hair I would be super happy with this hair accessory.

So this box also came with a mini magazine which shows the different items that each box got, and it also goes into more detail about the beauty items. One thing that I wasn't too happy about, was that the fashion items didn't specify the brand and the cost of the item, so it's hard to judge whether or not the fashion part of the box is good value or not, and it's hard to see where to buy the other items if the other boxes necklace or hair accessory took your fancy.

Onto beauty...

I was pretty happy with every beauty item, it contains a full size soap, a lip gloss, a makeup brush, and some hair care samples and Moxie samples.

Circa Home Everyday Soap in Lilac & Orchid: This is a full size soap that cost $9.95, I wouldn't generally spend that much on a soap, but I do appreciate a good soap, so I am looking forward to trying this. The scent is a little floral, but it has more of a typical soap scent, which I don't mind.

Redken Diamond Oil range - Shampoo, Conditioner, and Deep Facets treatment: I love it when I get a sample of a whole range of products, because it gives you a better idea of what the full range is like. These are pretty decent sizes samples, with the shampoo being 50ml and the other two being 30ml. I am looking forward to trying this range, since I love products with oil in them. Normally the shampoo costs $22.95, the conditioner costs $22.95, and the treatment costs $35.50. Since these aren't cheap so it's great being able to give these ago before you buy the full sized products.

Maybelline Colour Sensational High Shine Lip Gloss in the shade Glisten Up Pink: I love full sized makeup products in subscription boxes, and even though I am not a lip gloss girl, I love trying new products. This is a great easy to wear pink shade that has some shimmer, it is glossy but not sticky, and it smells nice and sweet. This retails for $15.95

Moxie Collection: I am not the biggest fan of this brand (I have only tried the tampons), but I like that this provides a range of products so once again you can try the whole range and see what suits you. This would be perfect if you have wanted to try this brand but had never got around to it.

Master Makeup by Dean Nixon Blending Brush - I love brushes, and adding in a brush into a beauty box is an easy way to win people over! I have never heard of this brand, but I am really excited to try this brush. It is super soft and really nicely tapered, which will work well for defining your crease or just blending out shadow. This brush costs $30, but there is a 20% off voucher that has also come with the box.

Overall I am pretty happy with this box. I am definitely more excited about the beauty than the fashion however. I know that I have short hair, so I am in the minority, but I would love to see a more customisable box. In addition to that, I would love to see brands and the retail prices of the fashion items, so if I did want to buy something from that range, I know where to get it and how much it costs.

I am really looking forward to next months box! If you are interested in subscribing to this box, then check out http://www.herfashionbox.com/ for more details!

  3. Hi,
I also received the classic box, but my lip gloss was red with a bit of a golden sparkle. I agree with pretty much everything you said about each item and will wait to see how the second box pans out to see if I renew in future.

I enjoyed the video and would love to see some more. I'm sure it gets easier after you do a few :)

    Cheers,

    1. Thanks! Yeah I think a lot is riding on the second box, because that one will be make or break for most people.

  4. I'm kicking myself for not picking up the first box for half price! But I am contemplating whether I should sign up for the second one. I think I will wait it out to see how the second one goes and see whether it will be worth the $40 price tag :)

  5. I'm not sure I'm convinced about HFB, it seems like a lot of money and you're really only paying extra for a necklace which really isn't going to suit everyone (I wouldn't wear any of the 3). It would be good if you could customise it to your hair/skin types as well as the 3 choices. I guess they're just starting up, so it'll be interesting to see how the next box goes.
I also heard they already took out money for next month without letting people know? That seems a little ridiculous!

  6. This looks like a great box. I would have chosen classic, but I definitely like the feminine items better, so I would definitely have been disappointed with that. (I'm trying to justify not getting this first box at a discounted rate--it looks great!).

  8. Hi I just thought I'd leave a comment to let u know hfb noted they were making they're own fashion accessories but a company where I work at has also imported these from overseas and they cost them about $2 each item. So I'm guessing most of your money is going towards the beauty. Oxox

    1. Thanks for letting me know! That's very interesting, but I suspected as much! If that's the case, this box may not be worth staying subscribed to. Thanks again for the info!
