My new favourite cheek product: MAC Cream Colour Base in Movie Star Red

March 21, 2013

This is what I have been wearing on my cheeks for the last few weeks, and I thought I should share it with you guys because I bought this about a year ago and it just sat in my drawer until I realised that it can be worn on the cheeks, and not just the lips. This was limited edition, but I don't think this Movie Star Red shade sold very well, because there are numerous sellers on ebay that are selling this for around $15, and I bought this on strawberrynet for a similar price. That's another good thing about knowing how to use these dark cream cheek products - they're pretty scary to look at, so they don't sell very well and you can often find them on sale.

I have never been a big fan of cream cheek products, because I find that they don't last very well, but this has changed my opinion of cheek products, and I am very tempted to buy any of the three dark cream cheek shades by Illamasqua. This cream product gives the cheeks a lovely flush, and it lasts all day on the cheeks.

MAC Movie Star Red - blended and swatched
You can see that this is a more of a blue toned dark pink, it is very pigmented if you swatch it with your finger, but it creates a nice bold pink look when blended with a brush. In the blended photo I touched the brush with the product, took some excess off on my hand and then applied it on my arm to swatch it. You only need the tiniest amount, so this will last years.

If you love a bold cheek colour, which I do - especially in cooler weather, I would recommend trying red cream cheek products. Before using this as a blush, I just bypassed dark blushes like this and never even bothered swatching them because they looked so intimidating... but now they are my newest blush obsession!

I even made a video demonstrating how I apply this! So watch the video if you want to see what it looks like on the cheeks.

  1. This actually looks really nice on you. I've seen a similar colour by NYX & was tempted to pick it up but a bit afraid of it haha but wow it actually looks really good. Great Video :)

  4. It looks so pretty! Scary, but pretty! I love bright cheeks (although I usually get a bit scared before leaving the house and try and tone it down) so I might have to have a look at this on ebay or something (and get a flat topped brush to go with it.)

  5. Aww, so nice that you did a video! This shade is really stunning! I love products that look scary in the pan but totally wearable on the skin. And I love the idea of using one brush to apply the product and another one to blend. Great tip! :)
