Simple Valentines Day nail look!

February 11, 2013

Here is my quick Valentines Day look, I didn't want it to be too in your face, but I wanted it to be more of a nod to Valentines Day and a look that you could wear any time of the year. So it is a simple baby pink nail with various coloured hearts. I also wanted this to be easy to do, so I could do it on both hands :P I also put the hearts down the bottom of the nail so that any chipping or tip wear won't ruin the design.

So I used Sally Hansen Triple Strong Nail Fortifier as a base coat, O.P.I Mod About You as the base colour, and I used Bourjois polishes in the shades 21 and 11 and Mirenesse Nail Laquer in Flapper Pash for the hearts. If you want to keep this simple, you only need one base colour and one heart colour. I will eventually put a top coat on as well, but I am waiting for the hearts to dry completely, as the hearts can take a while to dry because you need to apply the polish quite thick.

You also need dotting tools, you will need one big tool and one small tool. I got a set of these dotting tools from ebay for under $2.

Step 1: Paint your nails with the base coat
Step 2: Make a dot with the large dotting tool, where you want the top of the heart to be. You want to make this a little off from the center of the nail.

Step 3:  Dot an identical dot right next to the first one

Step 4: Using the smaller dotting tool, dip the tool in nail polish and draw a line from the side of one of the dots down and stop when you are in line with the middle of the two dots.

Step 5: Do this with the other side, and you have an easy heart!

  4. That's so smart, creating the hearts at the botto to avoid chipping! Great tutorial. I was struggling to create a heart using my brush, I should've used the dotting tool like you. Cute nails btw!
