Glittery nail look using Sally Hansen Complete Salon Manicure in the shade Mermaid's Tail

February 20, 2013

I received this nail polish from my February Bellabox (see post here), and I was really excited to test it out. You can buy these at any place where you can buy Sally Hansen (eg Priceline and Chemist Warehouse) and this costs $14.95.

This is what one coat looks like on its own (one coat). It is a blue gel polish that contains large blue and green glitter pieces and smaller blue glitter pieces. I believe that you can build this up to a solid blue base colour, but according to other reviews I have looked it, it takes 3+ layers to get that bold look. I decided instead to layer this over a darker base.

On a side note, I love the large Sally Hansen brush... It is easily two times bigger than a normal nail polish brush and makes applying nail polish much easier and quicker.

This is actually the first time I have used this Wet 'n' Wild black polish, and even though the packaging isn't the best, the polish smells a lot stronger than normal polish, and its not the smoothest polish to apply - I need to admit that I was very impressed because the photo above is only one coat of polish!

Here is the finished look! I layered two coats of the glitter on top on the black, and I also used a top coat.

  1. That looks really pretty. I've seen on the Bellabox FB page a few ladies complaining about getting this as they are 40+. I think this colour is gorgeous for a younger person, but agree that most 40 or 50 years olds either can't wear glitter because of their profession, or it's not really age appropriate.

    1. Yeah I can understand that, but thats the nature of beauty boxes... they are focused on what is popular... they should have a separate box for classic items

  2. Deborah Lippmann's Across The Universe looks EXACTLY, to a T, like this Sally Hansen polish. And it's so funny that you layered it over black because it looks amazing over black and I've been wearing it like that :) Great post!

  4. This looks like a lovely polish, but I'm not sure if I want to buy it for $14.95 for a glitter that doesn't seem to have much glitter in it. It does look nice over the black though.

  6. Omg..what an awesome idea! I am not into nail polishes at all. And I don't know much about them. But this color, I couldn't resist to try. And I applied many layers like you said only to be disappointed. It appeared so thick and was coming off when I wore closed shoes :S I will definitely give this a try! Thanks for the great post!:)

  11. Dead ringer for Essence Blue Addicted (which is a dead ringer for Deborah Lippmann Across the Universe) lol! I would be pretty thrilled to get this in a box. Love it over a dark base :)
