Product Rave! Lush Colour Supplement

January 17, 2013

I have seen these in Lush for a while now, definitely a couple of years, and I only took the plunge and bought this when it was on sale after Christmas for 50% off. Normally these cost $17.95, and they are worth it! I previously have struggled with every liquid foundation I own... I find that they can be difficult to apply evenly, they don't provide as much coverage as I want, and my foundation tends to move and settle around my nose by the end of the day... these are no longer issues for me, now that I have found this colour supplement from Lush!

I bought Light Yellow, and I want to go back and get Dark Yellow, since my skin tone is a mix between the two. This comes in five shades, Light Yellow, Dark Yellow, Light Pink, Dark Pink, and Jackie Oats (which is a fair shade). It will be hard finding a shade that matches you perfectly, but they are designed to be mixed to get your perfect shade.

This contains 20g of a cream/mousse type pigment that contains natural ingredients and is suitable for Vegans. This colour supplement is designed to be use on its own as a foundation, or to be mixed with moisturiser to make a tinted moisturiser. I personally haven't used it in either of those ways, mainly because this is too light for me as a foundation, and I don't like tinted moisturisers. What I do with this, is I mix it with my liquid foundation to add some extra coverage and to change the texture.

Since I tried this product, I have been adding it to my foundation every single day. I pump some liquid foundation on the back of my hand and mix it with a little bit of this colour supplement. Why go to this effort? Well I have found that adding this supplement makes my foundation just that little bit tackier which makes it easier to apply, it needs less buffing, it applied more evenly, and it provides a tiny bit more coverage. Since adding this to my foundation, I have noticed that my makeup stays in place much better throughout the day, and I don't really need a primer anymore. I have tried adding this to many of my liquid foundations, and it makes all of them just that little bit better. I find that I generally mix this with foundations that are slightly too dark for me, and I want to get the dark yellow shade to mix with foundations that are a little too light for me.

Ok so here is a little demonstration of what I mean by better coverage. On the left side of my face I only have Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum foundation, and on the right I have the same foundation mixed with a little bit of the Lush Colour Supplement. You can hopefully see that the foundation on its own hasn't covered up all of the redness on my cheeks and nose, whereas the right side with has a much nicer coverage. I am not wearing any concealer in this photo.

If you're sick of having to buff liquid foundation into your skin, or if you find that most liquid foundations don't give you enough coverage, then this is a great and natural way to tweak your existing foundations so you can apply and wear them more comfortably. The best thing about this is that you don't have to throw out your old foundations, you can just make them better! I haven't heard much about this product in the beauty community, but I am hooked! I highly recommend this, and I am so happy I finally bought it!

Have you tried this Colour Supplement? What did you think, and how do you use it?

  1. I haven't tried any of Lush's cosmetics yet, but this seems like a great product. I think it'd be great to mix with my Bourjois healthy mix foundation.

  7. Glad you found a way for this to work and that you've been loving it! I tested it out a while back and couldn't get it to agree with my skin, but I like the idea of mixing it with other foundation to adjust the coverage and texture. Thanks for the tip! :)
