Korres Lip Butter Glaze in Jasmine, Pomegranate and Raspberry - comparison with Korres Lip Butters and swatches

January 4, 2013

I bought this trio of Korres Lip Butter Glazes when they were on sale at strawberrynet.com (see my Korres post about it). I don't know if these are available in store in Australia yet, but you can get this trio of Lip Butter Glazes on strawberrynet.com on sale for $22 at the moment, the full price is $27.50. If you wanted to check out the Lip Butters in store, they are available in Australia at Kit Cosmetics.

I decided to do a review with swatches because I am actually giving away one of these trio packs, along with other goodies, as part of my 200 followers/Christmas giveaway! So if you like the look of these, then remember to enter the giveaway!

A lot of you might be familiar with the original pot set Korres Lip Butters (I will be doing a quick comparison later in this post), but what is instantly different about these Lip Butter Glazes is that they come in tubes, and are designed to be more of a colourful lip gloss rather than a lip balm. Even though these have names like Pomegranate and Raspberry, it is referring to the colour shade and not the scent, as each of these glosses smell like vanilla. This is difference from the pot set Lip Butters as they each smell like the shade name.

Swatches of Korres Lip Butter Glazes: Jasmine, Pomegranate, and Raspberry

You can see from the swatches above that these have a very glossy finish, and apart from the Jasmine which is designed to be a nude shade, they contain quite a lot of colour. The Pomegranate is a nice coral shade, and the Raspberry is a berry purple shade.

Jasmine is a nude gloss but is slightly light on my lips, so it's probably my least favourite of the three, which is funny because the Jasmine pot set Lip Butter is my favourite out the the few that I have.

My favourite is the Pomegranate because I think the glossy coral is amazing! It is such a pretty bright Summery look, and is so difference from the pot set version, which is just a slightly tinted balm.

The Raspberry is my second favourite and it is a really pretty berry shade. I don't have the pot set Lip Butter in Raspberry so I can't compare, but I do have the Rose, which is also a dark shade, and that doesn't look anywhere as bold as the swatch above, and the colour doesn't last on the lips as long as the Lip Butter Glaze.

These Lip Butter Glazes also come in a tube with a typical lip gloss applicator. I don't mind the pot set lip butters, but for a gloss that contains a lot of colour, it is much easier to get a nice application from the tube compared to the pot.

These Lip Butter Glazes are very shiny, quite pigmented, and they last a good couple of hours without eating. The colour does fade over that time, but the colour does last really well for such a shiny gloss. I love these because they create a beautiful glossy lip without being sticky, and I adore the pop colour on my lips.

Comparison between Korres Lip Butter Glazes and Korres Lip Butters

I decided to do a quick comparison with the Lip Butter Glazes and the Lip Butters, since I have both products in the shades Jasmine and Pomegranate.

If you aren't familiar with the original Lip Butters, they are pot set balms that have a slight tint of colour.

Left to right: Lip Butter in Jasmine, Lip Butter Glaze in Jasmine, Lip Butter in Pomegranate, Lip Butter Glaze in Pomegranate

So you can instantly see that the original Lip Butters are less pigmented and less shiny. They are more of a balm, whereas the Lip Butter Glazes are more of a colourful gloss. I prefer to use the Lip Butters when I want a balm - so before I go to bed, or before I put on lipstick. But I prefer the Lip Butter Glaze when I want to add a pop of colour to my lips, or to add a gloss over a lipstick. The Lip Butter Glazes are also easier and less messy to reapply during the day. I would say that the Lip Butters are slightly more moisturising, but they both do a great job at hydrating your lips.

The one thing I miss about the Lip Butters, is that they all smell different, whereas the Lip Butter Glazes all smell like vanilla. One of my all time favourite lip products is the Jasmine Lip Butter because it smells so amazing, almost like a soft sweet caramel. In my opinion the Jasmine Lip Butter is much better than the Jasmine Lip Butter Glaze, whereas I like the Pomegranate Lip Butter Glaze more than the Pomegranate Lip Butter, because I think the coral colour of the Lip Butter Glaze is amazing!

You can see that both the Jasmine shades are similar. The Lip Butter looks like there isn't much on the lips, but the Lip Butter Glaze provides a slight light nude tint, and is much more glossy.

I think there is a huge difference between these two shades, and I adore the look of the Glaze! The Lip Butter gives a nice slight hint of coral to the lips, but the Lip Butter Glaze gives an amazing coral pop to the lips. I love it!

Korres Lip Butter:
  • Pot set
  • Slightly tinted lip balm
  • Is not sticky on the lips
  • Each smells different - like the shade name
  • Contains 6g of product
  • Gloss lasts for a couple of hours without eating, but the colour fades very quickly
Korres Lip Butter Glaze:
  • Squeezy tube
  • More pigmented colour and high shine finish
  • Is not sticky on the lips
  • All shades smell like vanilla
  • Contains 10g of product
  • Gloss lasts a couple of hours without eating. The colour fades over time, but the colour does last until the gloss wears off.

Overall I love both of these products because I am a big low maintenance lip balm fan but I also love the occasional bright lip. I do like that Korres brought out a glossier brighter "lip gloss" version of the Lip Butter, and I think if they didn't all smell like vanilla, the Lip Butter Glazes would overall be a better product in my opinion. However, I wouldn't want to wear a Lip Butter Glaze to bed, so I will still repurchase the Jasmine Lip Butter over and over again.

Have you tried the Lip Butter Glazes or the original Lip Butters? What do you think of these?

  5. The Pomegranate lip glaze is gorgeous and so summery! Didn't expect it to be so much more vibrant and pigmented compared to the lip butter.
