Holy Grail Makeup Remover - Garnier Clean Sensitive 2 in 1 Gentle Make-Up Remover

January 7, 2013

I discovered this makeup remover in 2011, and I pretty much have only used this makeup remover since. I once dabbled with Bioderma and the Garnier Clean Sensitive Gentle Eye Make-Up Remover (which is the eye makeup remover in this same range), and I am so happy to come back to the 2 in 1 Gentle Make-Up Remover, because nothing I have tried beats it.

This 200ml bottle costs less than $10 full priced, and you can find it in most pharmacies and supermarkets. I tried Bioderma (which costs closer to $40 for 250ml), and honestly, I didn't like it as much as this makeup remover... I think that might be beauty blogging blasphemy, but I honestly don't see the point of wasting so much money when there are equally as good, and easily accessible, products around for close to a quarter of the price!

Before I move on, I just wanted to say that I tried the Clean Sensitive Eye Make-Up remover, and it was no where near as good. The eye version doesn't have the oil layer and required more rubbing to remove eye makeup, and it also occasionally stung my eyes, whereas this Clean Sensitive 2 in 1 Gentle Make-Up Remover has never caused any such stinging. So if you are going to try this Clean Sensitive range, I would recommend you try this 2 in 1 version, even if you are only planning on using this on your eyes. There is also a gentle cleansing milk version in this range, which I haven't tried.

So this is fragrance and alcohol free, and it contains a liquid layer and an oil layer. It requires you to shake the bottle before you apply it to a cotton pad, so you can mix the oil with the liquid. Since this is only about a third oil, then you get the benefits of the oil but leaves minimal oily residue. In case you aren't aware, oil is a great product to remove makeup because it breaks the makeup down and makes it easier to remove.

So this is what the bottle looks like after you have shaken it up.

This claims to remove even waterproof makeup in one wipe. The photo above is of the makeup pad after I have held it to my eye for 5 seconds without any rubbing. It does remove makeup really well, and it pretty much removed all of my eyeshadow after just holding the pad on my eyelid. Of course to get all of my eye makeup off I would need to rub the pad under my eye and rub my lashes a little more, but compared to other makeup remover, this needs very minimal rubbing and causes no stinging whatsoever.

After some research, the only negative that I can find people saying about this product, is that there is a slight oily residue, and that it's "too troublesome" having to shake this product.

I know that I will continue buying this over and over again, and I won't waste time with overpriced makeup removers while this is still around!

Have you tried this makeup remover? What did you think?

  2. This will definitely be the next eye makeup remover I will try! It is extraordinarily similar to my favourite remover, can you believe it or not, but an Aldi brand, Lacura. It removes so well, better than anything else I've tried (even Jurlique which is quite high end) and is so gentle! However I can't find anymore of the Lacura makeup remover now so I will give this Garnier one a go :)

  3. I think I need to give this a try, I tried Bioderma from bellabox but there's no way I'm paying that much for it, especially if you say this is better! Hopefully it doesn't irritate my skin (a lot of products - especially cleansing wipes, for sensitive skin still irritate my skin).

  4. I have been eyeing this for a long time, ever since Garnier discontinued my favourite toner! (So basically years haha!) When this first came out, I wanted to buy it, but I was a bit mad at Garnier so I passed...
I've tried Bioderma Makeup Remover and I didn't really like it either, it actually made me break out! :(
I'm still on the search, so I think I'll give this a go!
Thanks for the review Kat :D

  5. I may give this a go. I used my bellabox points to order the bioderma one, but they still don't have any stock and I'm getting slightly impatient. Especially, since you've reviewed it so highly.

  10. I'm glad this works for you. I must have overly sensitive eyes as it stung mine. I kept using it until I thought , I need to buy a different type, life is too short for stinging eye makeup remover.
