Ulta3 has branched out to makeup! Review and swatches of the Ulta3 matte lipstick in 033 pink pout

December 6, 2012

If you live in Australia then the name Ulta3 might ring a bell...

Ulta3 is the brand of those super cheap nail polishes that you can find in chemists, some supermarkets, and even petrol stations for $2 each. I have at least 7 or 8 of these polishes, and even though they aren't the best quality, they do have a massive range of colours, and is a great way to buy crazy colours without spending too much cash.

Anyway, I was in a random chemist today with my boyfriend, who was buying hay fever tablets, and naturally I was hovering around the makeup, and I happened to stumble across the Ulta3 stand. Wow! Ulta3 have increased their range to include heaps of makup products, such as eyeshadows, blushes, powders, pro nail polishes, eyeliners, glitter eyeliners, lip liners... and a range of about 50 lipsticks! I couldn't leave without trying at least one lipstick, so I bought a matte nude pink shade. The mattes cost $3.99 and the glossy ones cost $2.99. The shade I bought is 033 pink pout.

The swatch above to the left is of the lipstick taken without flash, and the one on the right if with flash. This is such a pretty colour, I think I picked very well. It is a matte pink (with a few flecks of glitter, that isn't noticeable) and the pink almost has a mauve tone to it, which I really like. This looks quite dark in the swatches, but on the lips (see photo below), it does look like a natural lip colour. I didn't exfoliate my lips or anything before putting this lipstick on (and I have pretty dry lips at the moment), so you can see that it doesn't emphasise dry patches. It also is very thick and creamy for a matte finish, and it stays creamy until it wears off. Naturally, being a matte it lasts quite long, and I found this lipstick lasted on my lips easily through drinking and snacking and wore off close to 3 hours after applying. I didn't expect much from this lipstick, but I am actually really happy with it, and will no doubt go back and get more.

Pros:
Cheap! $3.99 for matte and $2.99 for glossy
Huge range of colours, at my estimation about 50+ shades (this is shade 33)
Long lasting
Non-drying

Cons:
None... maybe that there is too many shades to choose from :P

Have you tried any makeup from the new Ulta3 range? I'm not sure where else they have introduced these, but I got this from the Pharmasave Pharmacy in Northcote Plaza in Melbourne.

  1. I'm not from Australia so I haven't heard of this brand. However, judging from the packaging I would have NEVER guessed this was only 3.99. I think it's super pretty (both the color and the packaging)!

    1. It makes you wonder why other brands cost so much!

  2. They've had makeup for a while now! I was actually just thinking today about what the quality of their other cosmetics are. I really really love their polishes (I bought 5 today), and have considered getting their lipsticks and eyeshadows. I think the prices might vary from store to store too... one Terry White at my local mall has polishes for $2.25 and the other for $2, and I've bought polishes for $2.50 elsewhere before.

    1. I think the prices range store to store even in the same shopping centre. I've bought nail polish for $2 at the chemist on the ground level and $2.50 4 levels up! I've always avoided the Ulta3 range as it looks really picked over and messy like the Essence stands at Target :P

Great review though! Really makes me want to go get some lipsticks for myself if I can find a decent Ulta3 stand :P

    2. I would really recommend the polishes! They're totally worth bin diving for.

  3. Pink pout is the same name as a Revlon lipstick ahaha....I think Ultra3 is lacking some creativity :P This looks like such a wearable pretty lipstick. I'll have to keep my eye out for it :)
