September 2012 Empties

October 4, 2012 Melbourne VIC, Australia

I love this time of the month... not only do I get to go through the things I have used up and decide whether I would repurchase or not, but I think since doing these posts, I am better at targeting certain products and using them until I finish them. Before doing these posts, I had to many half used products and if I bought something new, I would start using them too... not anymore!

These are all the containers that I have used up, later in this post I will go over some sachets that I have also finished. This post also features my horrible brown carpet, I am moving house at the end of next month... I have decided to embrace the horrible carpet as background, since I will be saying bye to my first rental house, I will miss it.

I have a lot of products to go through, so I will make this quick...

Colgate Plax - Freshmint: I know a lot of people love this, but I thought it tastes too much like medicine. I much prefer Listerine, I only tried this one because it is cheaper than Listerine. But I disliked every time I used this, so I will pay the extra for Listerine from now on.

The Body Shop Cranberry Body Butter - This was a limited edition Christmas butter that I got for sale at one of The Body Shop outlet stores. I didn't mind this, but I love the strawberry one more. So I would buy these Body Shop body butters again, but maybe not this cranberry one.

Estee Lauder Re-Nutriv Ultimate Lifting Creme - The tiny little silver jar above the body butter is the night cream. I really enjoyed this sample, it smells so clean, its the perfect smell for skin care. It was also a nice and thick moisturiser but was not at all greasy, it sunk into my skin beautifully... I really love this. Would I buy it again? If this range wasn't about $400 a jar, yes I would repurchase. I would consider spending about $100 on this cream, since it was so good... but unless I become super rich, I can't justify spending so much on a night cream - if you do have the money to spare, then you may want it to give it a go.

Aesop Primrose Facial Hydrating Cream - I really like this moisturiser, and I have bought it before, and would buy it again. It's a nice moisturiser, it's very herbal and feels good for your skin. It's also not very heavy because it is designed as a general moisturiser, but I use it as a night cream because it doesn't contain SPF. I also love the glass container. It's not super cheap though, this 60ml jar was $45. I would repurchase this again, once I have used up all the night creams that I have in reserve.

Blackmores Bio Magnesium - I always have this around because I have a slight case of bruxism - which means I grind my teeth at night. I only do this when I am stressed, so its not too bad. I used to be a sleep scientist so I know a lot about sleep, so when I found out that I do grind my teeth, I started using magnesium as it helps relax muscles, and it does reduces my grinding. So yes, I will repurchase.

Dove Clear Touch Anti White Marks anti-perspirant deodorant - No complaints about this, it smells nice and does the job. It does not last the 48 hours as the container says, but no deodorant does. I would repurchase... I tend to buy Dove or Rexona roll on deodorants, and which one I get depends on which one is on sale. I think I currently have a different dove one I am using.

Batiste Dry Shampoo Original - I love this dry shampoo, its not expensive (about $9-$10) and it lasts a long time. I use it every other day, and I love it. I would repurchase this original one, but at the moment I have a tropical one (I think), because it was on sale for half price, and I don't mind which one I use.

Garnier Clean Sensitive 2 in 1 Gentle Make-Up Remover - *Sobs* I am so sad I have finished this. It's my third bottle in row, and I replaced it with the Clean Sensitive Eye Makeup Remover one... which, in my opinion, is not as good. What I love about this 2 in 1 remover is the layer of oil, I think when you shake the cleansing water with the oil, it dissolves makeup so well. The eye makeup version does not have that oil which makes it harder to get makeup off. Some people may not like the oil, but I love it! It also is suitable for super sensitive skin so it's a pleasure to use, and for the $12ish it's great value and lasts months! Highly recommend, and I will repurchase over and over again.

Lush Grease Lightning - This is a natural spot treatment from Lush, and costs $13.50. It's just ok. It works well if you don't like the harsh drying of chemical spot treatments, but it is not at all as effective as the chemical ones. I also had issues with the packaging, the pump stopped working maybe after a week of getting it, it did eventually start working again, but it would intermittently stop working, which was annoying. If you like gentle products - then try it, but I would not repurchase it purely because of the dodgy pump.

Organicspa Skincare Moisturiser - The little white tube under the grease lightning is this moisturiser. I bought it after I tried laser hair removal a while ago, and they recommended using this in case your skin reacts badly to the laser. My skin was fine, so I wasted my money on this moisturiser (I don't think it was cheap either - maybe $7 for 30ml). It is just a moisturiser, I wouldn't repurchase.

Dr Lewinn's Gentle Facial Cleanser - Ding dong the witch is dead! I hated this stuff, and you can see a review on it here. It wasn't effective at all, did not remove any makeup, it left a greasy residue and it smelt like off fruit. Not a fan! This was such a huge container too, and I did not want to put it on my face, so I used it up by using it as a body wash - which worked fine, because in the colder months I get really dry sensitive skin, so I was actually ok as a body wash in that situation. Would never repurchase!

Rexona Confidence anti-perspirant deodorant - This is a very dirty looking deodorant, because this is my hand bag deodorant. I think this sporty range works really well and lasts longer than most other roll on deodorants. I like the scent too. I would repurchase, and I have since repurchased some other scents in the range.

Aveeno Ultra-Calming Foaming Cleanser - After two weeks of using this, the pump broke, and in order for me to pump this out (and this does require the pump to make it foam) I had to pull the pump up (since it would no longer spring back up), push the pump down and I had to repeat this about 3 or 4 times to get a decent amount of product. The product was ok, but I hated this experience and would never repurchase because of the pump. Fail.

Trelivings Kangaroo Island Eucalyptus Body Lotion - This was given to me, and its meh. Its a very thin and liquidy lotion and smells quite herbal, I like eucalyptus but this didn't do it for me. I used this up after it was kicking around in my bathroom for about a year. I used it after showers on my legs to use it up. Would not repurchase.

Ralph Balancing Due Daily Shampoo - I got this years ago with the Ralph perfume. I found it in a cupboard and didn't want to throw it out, so I decided to use it up. Since it was old, I didn't want to use it on my hair, so I used it as a bubble bath instead. It smells nice, but you can't purchase this, and I don't know what its like as a shampoo so I wouldn't repurchase.

Kevin Murphy Hydrate-Me Wash and Rinse - I got this sample of shampoo and conditioner at Melbourne Spring Fashion Week. I did really like these samples, they smell like something you would get from Lush. My hair also felt really light weight and clean afterwards. I am curious to see how much the full versions cost, and that will determine whether I would buy them.

Moxie Tampon sample - I also got this from Fashion Week, I have tried this brand before, and I never bought it again... so I guess that says something. I think the reason why I didn't repurchase was because the tampons come in a little tin, and I think I felt guilty buying tins when you can buy little cardboard boxes that are easier to recycle. Also I think that you are paying more for the packaging, but the tampons were the same as other brands. So I wouldn't repurchase these.

DermaVeen Moisturising Lotion, Moisturising Cream, and Soap Free Wash: The lotion is just a thin every day lotion and doesn't really have a scent. Both the cream and the wash smell like marzipan which is odd. I didn't really care for the wash since it didn't foam much, but I did love the cream, and I was shocked that a small sample made me love it. Out of these three, I want to purchase the moisturising cream, but that's it.

Priceline Round Cotton Pads - I love these, they are cheap and I always buy them in two packs - it also gives me an excuse to go to Priceline :P. I will repurchase over and over.

Estee Lauder Advanced Night Repair Serum - I got these samples when I got my gift with purchase last month (see post here). These were ok, I had two uses from each sample so I used these for four nights but I didn't notice any difference. I wouldn't invest in a bottle of this at the moment.

Apivita Express Beauty with Pomegranate mask - I got two of these masks along with two aloe masks, in my Lust Have It hamper that I won (see post on the hamper here). You get a lot of product in this sachet so you can really pile it on. It feels just like a thick moisturiser that smells really clean and fruity. It is designed just to be a deep conditioning mask, so it doesn't dry and crack like clay masks. Once I washed mine off my skin did feel really plump, but luckily I used this at night because it made my skin very very shiny, but the next morning it was fine. I would repurchase this, I am not sure how much it costs, but I like the idea of having single use sachets so you can sample different types, and they are always nice and fresh.

That's it for my empties for September! I am so glad I can now throw this out and start a new pile of empties! Have you guys tried any of these products, what did you think?

  1. Cotton pads - best thing ever!

  2. WOW! So many empties - it's quite impressive haha! It sucks about the Aveeno cleanser - I hate it when products break.

    1. Yeah I have a lot of empties because I won't let myself use new things (or buy new things) unless I use things up... It makes me target certain products and its easier to use them every day :)
