Face of Australia Pastels Nail Enamel in the shades After Dinner Mint, Have Your Cupcake & Eat It Too, Boys 'N' Berries, and Castle On A Cloud - review and swatches

October 24, 2012

Face of Australia has just come out with an amazing pastel range that contains eight shades. These retail for $4.95 for 13ml of polish, and I got these at Priceline. I was so tempted to get the whole range, but I thought I would limit myself for now. I love everything about these, I love the shades, the cute names and even the font they used on the packaging.

The shades I got are After Dinner Mint, Have Your Cupcake & Eat It Too, Boys 'N' Berries, and Castle On A Cloud.

Each colour with two coats of nail polish

Castle On A Cloud is a really pretty almost mauve grey with a very slight shimmer to it (see photo below). I found this colour to be the most opaque of the four, you could even get away with possibly wearing one coat if you apply it evenly.

Boys 'N' Berries is a very flattering lavender colour with no shimmer, I think it is a really flattering colour. This isn't as opaque as the grey, but you can get a nice solid colour with two coats.

Have Your Cupcake & Eat It Too is the second most opaque of the four, and is very easy to get a nice even colour with two coats. This is the perfect blue based pastel pink, and contains no shimmer. I think this will be a very popular shade for Summer

After Dinner Mint is a beautiful mint green with no shimmer, this was one of the shades that I was most excited about because it is so bright and eye catching. Out of the four, this had the most sheer consistency and this needs 2-3 coats to get a good bold colour.

Annoyingly when I first opened my Castle On A Cloud, the lid was not attached to the brush... Hopefully I have super glue somewhere in the house :P

I love this range, it's cheap, easily accessible, has a good range of colours, the names are very cute, and the formula is pretty good. The only negative is that the formula does vary from shade to shade, but overall they are fine to work with. Another down side is that they are probably limited edition.

Edit: These aren't the longest wearing nail polishes, but strangely enough I have noticed that the more opaque shades tend to chip more than the sheerer shades. So the shade that started chipping after 24 hours of wear was they grey, and the other started chipping more on the second and third day. The chipping on the grey was worst of the four shades, followed by the pink, and the purple and green just had minor chipping and still looked ok on the third and fourth day.

Will you be picking any of these up? What shade do you like most?

  3. I was sooooo close to picking one up especially the orange sherbet one as it is such a unique shade. But I convinced myself not to as I am not a nail polish person and my collection is already getting quite out of hand! I am keen to know how they are chipping wise :)

    1. Yeah they are awesome. My nail polish collection is completely out of hand, but I don't have many pastels, so that justifies buying these in my mind :P

  8. I've been looking for these everywhere, my local Priceline doesn't have them though. Might have to go to another one tonight and see if I have any luck. Especially loving the mint and the pink ones. The mint really pops on your skin tone x
