How much is my face worth? Formal/special event makeup

September 16, 2012

So today I'm going to my boyfriends cousins wedding and I thought it is a perfect opportunity to see how much my formal or special event makeup costs. I did this post for my casual makeup earlier this week (which you can see here) and I was shocked to see that my every day makeup costs around $240! In my last post I put the recommended retail price (or as close as I can remember it to be) and also the price that I paid - I tend to get my makeup on sale or online so it does make a huge difference in cost. I am scared to see what this look costs, but here we go...

  • Estee Lauder Matte Perfecting Primer - $48
  • Estee Lauder Double Wear foundation in the shade Fresco - costs $50 in store but I got it off strawberrynet.com for $45
  • MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Porcelain Pink - normally $47 in store, but I got this at the corporate store for $25
  • Tom Ford Blush in 03 Flush - costs $80 in store, I got this with a discount and it cost $68. See swatches here
  • Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in the shade 003 Sand - retails for $17.95, but I got a two for one deal so this ended up costing $9. See swatches and review here
  • Laura Mercier Eye Basics in Wheat - normally costs $42, but I got two for $11.75 on strawberrynet.com, which makes this approximately $5.90
  • Maybelline Flasies Volum' Express Mascara The Falsies Flared - normally $19.95, but I got this on sale for $9.95. See review here
  • Estee Lauder Pure Color Lipstick in 70 Coral Fantasy - normally $45, but I got this at the corporate store for $25. See swatch here
  • Laura Mercier Eye Liner in Black Ebony - this normally costs $45, but I got two of these from strawberrynet.com for less than $10, so this cost $5
  • Laura Mercier Eye Shadow in Caramel - normally $44, I also got two of these from strawberrynet.com for less than $10, so this cost $5
  • MAC Blush in Harmony - this costs $41 in store, but I bought this off strawberrynet.com for approximately $23
  • Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Powder - I think this costs around $30 in Australia, but I got it as a gift.
  • Korres Lip Butter - in Australia these are sold at kit cosmetics for $18.95, I got this in a three pack from strawberrynet.com for about $10, so this ended up being about $3.30
  • Smashbox Cream Eye Liner in Putty - this costs $32.95, but I got it on eBay for $14. See swatches and review here
  • MUA Eyeshadow in 19 - costs approx $1.50 from the MUA website. See review and swatches here
  • Sportsgirl Draw The Line Eyeliner - costs $9.95 but I got it free as part of a gift pack. See swatches here
  • Prestige Brow Perfection Clear Gel - costs $12.95 in store. See review here
  • Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder in Tender Rose - this normally costs around $65, but I got it on strawberrynet.com for $30

Total approximate recommended retail price in Australia = $651.20

Total discounted price that I paid = $330.60

Whoa! I don't feel so bad about spending $330.60 on this makeup because it is a lot of makeup and there are some expensive items in there... but knowing that it retails for $651.20 is crazy! I guess it pays to watch out for online sales! I think doing these posts will encourage me even more to buy makeup online... not that I need anymore encouragement!

If you are interested, these are the brushes I used... I haven't totaled up the cost of these, but since the Tom Ford one alone is $110 (which I got as a gift), you can probably add a good $200 onto the total of my face for the brushes I used.

How much does your everyday makeup or formal makeup cost?
