How much is my face worth? Casual everyday makeup

September 13, 2012 Melbourne VIC, Australia

I have been curious what my face costs after reading peoples blog posts on this topic. I decided to do two of these, this one is my casual everyday type makeup and the next one will be my special event type makeup - I might try to do it this weekend when I am going to a wedding.

So today I tried to use products that I typically use day to day, sure the colours may change, but this is pretty typical of what I wear most days. I am a bit of a bargain hunter, so I will put the retail price of these (or what I recall them being) but I will also put how much I got them for.

Everyday makeup look

  • Maybelline Flasies Volum' Express Mascara The Falsies Flared - normally $19.95, but I got this on sale for $9.95. See review here
  • Rimmel Exaggerate Eye Liner 002 Absolute Brown - cost approx $15 in store, but you can get them cheaper on eBay
  • Laura Mercier Mineral Pressed Powder in Tender Rose - this normally costs around $65, but I got it on strawberrynet.com for $30.
  • Smashbox Cream Eye Liner in Putty - this costs $32.95, but I got it on eBay for $14. See swatches and review here
  • Benefit Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner in Marry Up - retails for $34 in Australia, but I got this on strawberrynet for $13
  • Stila Custom Color Blush in Self-Adjusting Pink - I bought this for $17.70 from ASOS when it was on sale, it is usually $22.10 on ASOS
  • Revlon Just Bitten Kissable Balm Stain in Cherish - these aren't available in store in Australia but I got it on eBay for $10 including shipping. See swatches and review here
  • Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Oily and Combination Skin in the shade Light - this retails for $13.99, but I got it on sale for $10.99. See review here
  • Maybelline Dream Lumi Touch Highlighting Concealer in the shade 003 Sand - retails for $17.95, but I got a two for one deal so this ended up costing $9. See swatches and review here
  • Sleek i Divine Storm Palette - this costs $9.99 from the Sleek website. See swatches and review here

Total approximate recommended retail price in Australia = $241.03

Total discounted price that I paid = $139.63

I know its a cliche, but I never thought my daily routine would cost over $100! Especially since I use a cheap BB cream and I skip all the extra steps like highlighter, contour or bronzer etc, I don't even use any primers! More interestingly this shows how expensive makeup is in Australia, and how it pays to buy things online! I have saved over $100 on these products because I shop online!

Now I am scared to find out how much my formal/going out makeup routine costs, since not only do I use more expensive products but I do use the extra steps like highlighters, contours and primers. Eeek!

Just in case your are interested, these are the brushes I used. I won't price them, since I got most of these online and I don't know how much they cost individually in stores... but you can probably add a good $80+ onto the cost of my face for these brushes.

What does your face cost?

    1. Thanks. Yeah makeup here is super expensive so I am always reluctant to pay full price unless I adore a product
