Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector Oily and Combination Skin in the shade Light: review and swatches

September 4, 2012

I was very reluctant to try BB creams as I have oily to combination skin and I was worried about them making my skin greasy and horrible. When I saw this new oily & combination skin BB cream on sale at Priceline for $10.99 (instead of the normal $13.99) I thought I had to give it a go. This only comes in light and medium, I got the light. This oily & combination BB cream contains 40g of product, compared to the normal Garnier BB cream that contains 45g of product. The best thing about this product is that it is oil free and SPF 15, which are huge positives in a foundation/BB cream.

The packaging is fine, it comes in a long tube with a squeezy applicator. The nozzle is good for controlling how much product you want, but the product is quite runny so it can get a little messy.

I adore this product! Ever since I have opened it, I have used it every day, this has officially replaced my Bourjois healthy mix foundation! Not only is it cheaper and contains more product, but the finish of the BB cream is amazing! You only need a tiny amount of this product and it gives pretty damn good coverage for a BB cream, I would say it is a light but buildable coverage, so what I do is use this all over my face and then put another layer over my problem areas. I do powder after using this but if you had less oily skin then you wouldn't need to. It is a semi-matte finish on me, which looks quite natural, it also lasts all day without needing a touch up - not even a powder touch up which is outstanding in my opinion! It also doesn't feel cakey, it feels really natural and you barely notice that you are wearing it. The only possible negatives I can come up with about this product is that it only comes in two shades, and it doesn't smells the best, it smells a little like sun screen.

I can't recommend this more, if you have oily combination skin then go buy this now, even if you have normal skin I think you will love this!

Comparison with Boirjois Healthy Mix in shade 53

I thought I would do a rough comparison with Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum, which is what I have previously been using on a daily basis. The BB cream tube looks deceptively small in the photos, but it is actually larger than the Healthy Mix Serum bottle.

The above photo shows Garnier BB cream in light next to Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum in 53. You will see that the BB cream is runnier, and slightly lighter and less yelow than Healthy Mix in shade 53. I would say that the light BB cream would be a bit darker than the shade 52 in Bourjois foundations.

You will see that they both have similar coverage when blended, and they also have a similar finish. The main difference is that the BB cream keeps that finish much longer. I find that I need to powder after about 4 hours of wearing the Healthy Mix, and by the end of the day it is slightly patchy. With the Garnier BB cream I have not needed to powder my face once, and it lasts all day without going patchy.

Congratulations Garnier, you have done a fantastic job on this BB cream. This has officially become my day time foundation.

If you like foundations like Healthy Mix, then try this Garnier BB Cream Miracle Skin Perfector for oily and combination skin, it is pure genius!

  1. Great review! I've been using Missha Perfect Cover BB Cream for just over a year and have been loving it, but it's nice to see there's another good option out there for us combo/oily-skinned gals! And thanks for the comparison with Bourjois Healthy Mix. I loved the finish and coverage of Healthy Mix, but it didn't last on me. Garnier could be the answer if I ever want an alternative to my Missha. Thanks!

    1. I have never tried Missha so I don't know how it compares, but Garnier is such a good cheap product. You'll probably love it x

  3. So since I hit puberty, I've always had numerous tiny pimples on my forehead - and its because I also have combination skin! They'd come and go in different areas, but I've always had them there. Nothing else besides Citrus Clear has EVER cleared my skin. I am 100% pimple free. I suppose all of those acne treatments i used previously were irritating my skin further.
I only use one pump, when I take showers. Furthermore, if I forget to wash my face that day, (I generally only wash my face once a day now) then I STILL don't usually break out, and I wear face makeup as well!

  4. I've had mixed feelings about this- I bought the one in Medium and ended up giving it away because it didn't match. I have both 52 and 53 Bourjois Healthy Mix Serums because I have to mix them- would Garnier's Light be in the middle of the two shades, or dead set 52?

    1. It applies quite light but oxidises a bit darker. I would say that its darker than 52, probably in between 52 and 53
