Beauty and Brains Tag

September 3, 2012

Ok so I never do posts about me, but I decided to give the Beauty and Brains tag a go. I like reading these types of blogs because I like finding out more about the people who write these blogs. Here I go, wish me luck!

Favourite Book:
I have spent a great deal of my adult life studying, so I don't do as much social reading as I would like. When I do, it tends to be fictional fun books that are an escape from studying. At the moment I am up to the third book in the Game of Thrones (aka A Song of Ice and Fire) series. I am loving these books, but I find I read it at a snails pace during the uni semester, and I read the majority of the book while on holidays. When I am not studying, I tend to pick up more informative books, some that come to mind are "The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat" by Oliver Sacks, or "The Physics of Superheros" by James Kakalios.

Favourite Quotes:

I am really bad at traditional quotes, my favourite quotes are from movies or TV shows that I love. A good example is "and you can't piss on hospitality, I won't allow it!". Anyway, don't expect a serious quote from me, because in return you'll probably get a quote from Karen Walker from Will and Grace.

English or Maths:
MATHS MATHS MATHS! I hated English, but loved maths. I was a bit of maths nerd, I loved algebra. When I did my last degree (Psychology & Psychphysiology) I got the top mark in one of my statistics classes. Loser!

Science or Art:
Years ago I would have said art, I was a big fan of painting and photography back in the day, but since then I have done a science degree and I really enjoyed it. I was even a sleep scientist for three years before going back to study law, which is what I'm doing now. I always wanted to do my masters in neuropsychology, and I might do that in the distant future.

Name five music artists or albums that changed your life:

Ok I'm going to go way back and mention Middle of Nowhere by Hanson, and Backstreets Back by Backstreet Boys. They were very influential to me as a child, and I still get excited when I hear those songs, in fact I went and saw Backstreet Boys play with New Kids on the Block earlier this year and it was AMAZING! So much fun! When I became a teenager I was more influenced by bands like The Living End and Silverchair, and now I love bands like Madness, Phoenix, TV on the Radio, and Gotye. I know that doesn't really answer the question, but oh well :)

Favourite & Least Favourite Subjects at School:
Currently this semester my favourite subject is Criminal Law Policy & Reform and my least favourite is Administrative Law... but I think because this is referring to high school, so my worst subject was Sport/PE - strangely now I like going to the gym and working out (when I have the time), but back then I hated it. My favourite was Psychology, which is why I ended up doing it at uni.

Favourite 'Celebrity with a Brain':

I don't really have a favourite celebrity, with or without a brain... but I guess I would answer by saying I find comedians to be the smartest celebrities. One of my favourite comedians is Billy Connolly, and my favourite Australian comedian is Shaun Micallef - I love Full Frontal! More currently, I love people like Amy Poehler.

If you could study anything anywhere, what would it be?
I would love to study science or psychology in London... I have never been to London but I can imagine being a place I would enjoy living in. If I could work in a city for a while, I would also love to work in New York. Earlier this year I went to Shanghai to study Chinese Law, I loved it! I wish I could study overseas more.

What's your nerdy little secret?
I want to marry Dean from Supernatural!

Favourite beauty Guru(s), who you admire for more than their love of beauty/fashion:
I started watching beauty gurus after watching Pixi Woo. I still to this very day watch every video that they post on YouTube. I love them because they aren't bimbos, they are genuine talented people.

If your channel/blog didn't focus on Beauty/Fashion, what would it be?
I would probably fill it with cat photos and funny memes... kidding. I would probably have a TV show/movie review blog. I love watching good movies and TV shows, and I love discussing them with other people.

Name some things that you're obsessed with that other people would find strange or geeky:
In real life, people find my obsession with makeup very strange or geeky. I get really passionate about one thing at a time, at the moment it is makeup... I am curious to see what it will be next.,

Name five people (excluding friends and family) who inspire you:
I'm not really inspired by people, I used to idolise people when I was younger but I have realised over time that wanting to be like someone else just makes you feel inferior. Money inspires me to work, and boredom inspires me to study. I don't like feeling like I am standing still, so am always finding new things to do.

Who's your intellectual soulmate
Probably my boyfriend, we have a lot of interests in common interests, but he also likes things that I am not at all interested in - and I think we learn a lot from each other.

Well that was it. Feel free to do this tag too, I am interested in hearing peoples geeky stories!

  1. I loved the Song of Ice and Fire series. I am so impatient for the next book to come out! I've got The Man Who Mistook His Wife For a Hat on my list of books to read too. Great tag :)
