Winter favourites: nail polish, blush/highlighter, and lipsticks

July 10, 2012 Melbourne VIC, Australia

This blog post is pretty simple. It's just about colours that I have been wearing (or planning to wear) this winter. I know a lot of people are in the middle of summer, but in Australia it's pretty dreary and cold (especially in Melbourne). This isn't going to be an indepth review of these products, it's more of an example of the colour palette that I have been wearing. I focused on nail polish, blush, highlighter, and lipstick. I didn't go into eye products because I tend to wear similar colours on my eyes all year round.
Nail polish

These are colours I have been liking this winter. I like neutrals, light pastel pinks and purples, and dark colours. Last year I was into deep reds but I haven't been reaching for them this year.

The colours shown here are (roughly from left to right):
Nail It in Lavender, Nail It in Lilac, Nail It in Party Pink, Revlon 761 Scandalous, Nail It in Show Off, Nail It in Storm, OPI in Mod About You, Nail It in Violet, Nail It in Angel Kill, Nail it in Milkshake, and Yo-Ko in Black.

My absolute winter favourite nail polish is Nail It in Show Off. It is a dark pine green that looks amazing. I didn't realise how much I would love this until I first put it on. I bought this last year in winter and got compliments whenever I wore this. Its a pretty unique colour and I found that whenever I saw someone wearing a dark green like this, I would ask them if they got it from Sportsgirl and they always said yes. I haven't seen a similar colour since, and it is a great alternative to the typical black nails in winter.

Normally in summer I usually wear peach and orange toned with more gold highlights. My favourite winter colours are either nudes or cool pinks/purples, and I like silvery/pinky highlights.

Blushes and highlighters shown here in the photo are:
Top: Korres 16 Pink, Korres 15 Natural, MAC Blush Ombre in Vintage Grape
Middle: MAC Satin Powder Blush in Overdyed, MAC Mineralized Blush in Sakura, Smashbox Artificial Light Luminizing Powder, Sleek Glo in Peach Shimmer
Bottom: MAC Mineralize Skinfinish in Porcelain Pink

My favourite highlighter for the face is the MAC one, it gives a pretty pretty pink shimmer which works well with the pink blushes that I have been wearing. The Sleek highlighter works better when using a more natural blush. Please note that with the swatch of the Sleek highlighter I just used the top two colours (the white and pink), since I tend to use the bottom colours more in summer. Also the Smashbox highlighter is great on the face but it's my favourite inner eye highlighter, the applicator is perfectly suited for highlighting the eye. See photo below.

Note: the Lime Crime Glamour 101 lipstick is brand new because I had to replace the one that I had lost :(

Ok I am covering a lot of ground with these colours, I mainly have been wearing nudes and baby pinks to work or during the day, and mauves and dark reds at night. The reason why this is different to summer is because I generally can't wear light colours when I am tanned because it makes me look dead, and I normally stick to bright oranges, bright corals, fluro pinks, and bright reds.
