Review: Pout About It! Sportsgirl lipsticks in Night Owl and Rosie Posie

July 18, 2012 Melbourne VIC, Australia

Since I have started this blog I have featured some products from Sportsgirl (which would be like the Top Shop of Australia). I have so many Sportsgirl nail polishes, some eye shadows, bronzers, and quite a few lip glosses, but I have never bought any of their lipsticks. I have received a few comments from people saying how much they love these lipsticks... so I bought a couple today while I was at Sportsgirl.

These lipsticks are called Pout About It! and I got them in the colours Night Owl and Rosie Posie, which both claim to be matte. I chose these two because I am loving dark reds at the moment, and I liked that the pink one was quite coral toned (since pinks normally don't suit me unless they are coral). They normally retail for $9.95, but I got these two on sale for $7.95. These don't really have a scent, but I have a cold at the moment so I may be wrong. If you were wondering, these are not tested on animals and you can buy them from http://www.sportsgirl.com.au. I also like the packaging, it doesn't feel cheap, and the coloured plastic makes it easy to find the colour you want.

Night Owl:
Lets all point out the elephant in the room - Night Owl isn't matte! I originally picked this up quite excited for this to be matte, since I don't have any matte dark reds in my lipstick collection. Sportsgirl do have testers in store, so I did swatch it and realise that it wasn't matte and bought it anyway because I did still like it. If you are buying this online, just be aware that it is not at all matte. I still really like this colour, it's quite a sheer plum colour that can be built up to make it quite bold. The without flash photo below is more true to life than the photo with flash. Most of the other lipsticks in the matte collection are matte, besides one other (which I don't remember what the name is), but its easy to spot in the store. Most of the pinks, the nudes, and the bright red are all matte.

Rosie Posie:
I love matte lipstick, and Rosie Posie is definitely matte. You do need to moisturise/scrub any dry skin from your lips before you use this, because it can highlight the dry spots, but it isn't as drying as other matte lipsticks I have used. You can wear it blotted to make it look a little more natural, or you can use a few coats and have it quite bright and opaque. This lipstick tends to last quite a long time.

The verdict:
I like these lipsticks, in Australia it is very hard to get a decent lipstick for under $20, so I am very happy to know that these are available for $9.95 or cheaper when on sale. The only issue is that they don't have a huge range of colours, maybe 6 or so at a time. But they do bring out new colours each season. A big thumbs up if you want good beauty products and you're on a budget.

I have also officially decided that when I reach 100 followers I will do a Sportsgirl makeup give away. I like everything about Sportsgirl, and I know it's only available in Australia, so that's what my give away will be!

    1. I am with you on that. I had previously bought only a few things - some lip glosses and a bronzer maybe. Since doing this blog, I have heard people comment about how good the lipsticks are... and they are really good, especially for the price!

  4. I've always been a bit dubious with clothing stores selling cosmetics because to me, their specialty is in clothing so when they do bring out make-up products or other things like that, I kind of think that the quality wouldn't be good.

I just bought one of these Sportsgirl lipsticks in store as it was on sale for $4.95 and I swatched it on my hand and the colour just popped! One swatch and it was super pink! (Whick I liked because I like bright colours). I'm excited to try it out soon and hopefully be as good as everyone says so.

I agree with you, the make-up here is pricey and not that affordable. Thanks for this helpful review!
